I'm confused - at the "Cleaning Vanilla Master Plugins" step, it says:

However, for me it appears at index 42:

What am I missing?

What did you use to generate that list?

Based on that list, it looks like you didn't restore your original, uncleaned versions of your cleaned vanilla masters, so MO doesn't see them in the game folder.

You should have 44 cleaned masters and 35 uncleaned masters (Update.esm won't appear in the MO left pane). Look in the MO left pane:

This is Greek to me, because I haven't done any master cleaning yet. I just got to the step I quoted and was reading it for the first time!

I generated my list via MO2's export to CSV feature:

Edit: Comparing your screenshots, I seem to be missing at least petdwarvedarmoredmudcrab.

I literally fresh installed the game and followed the SSG. I don't understand how it would turn out differently a second time.

I wish the SSG provided more detailed steps on downloading Creation Club content.

The problem appears to be that Dwarven Armored Mudcrab was not in my library by default, but all other Bethesda Creations were.

First, restore the vanilla game following the steps here - Delete Game Files and User Data & Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Then, follow all steps to Initialize the Game. Follow each step as described.

Then have a look at the game \Data folder to make certain you have the 80 vanilla ESM files. TIP: click on Type file header in Windows Explorer to sort by Type. Then select all of the ESM files to see the count in the lower left footer of Explorer.

If you do have all 80, then all is well. Make a backup into an archive or by copying the Data folder to some other safe location so you don't need to repeat the previous steps again.

Then launch MO again and report what you see in the left pane (as I did in my previous post).

My problem is that the "Initialize the Game" steps don't describe in enough detail how to download the expected Creation Club content. I just says to start the game and select a "Download" option, but there is no such thing! I keep ending up with different subsets of the content depending on how I fumble around in the in-game menus. I would greatly appreciate more detailed steps, and/or an explicit list of Creation Club content that I am expected to download.

Edit: Thanks for the reply in the SSG thread. I think that clears it up. It would be nice to get a clarification in the SSG that the Download option only appears on first run, because I probably ran it up one time before installing the Anniversary Edition Update DLC.

Please post a screenshot of what you are seeing. When you launch the game with bFreebiesSeen=0 in SkyrimPrefs.ini, then you are presented with an option to 'Download' more content (the CC mods for AU). You can't really do anything else but click 'Download' the last time we checked. It would be useful to see what it looks like for you.

What happened is that I launched the game once before purchasing the Skyrim Anniversary Edition Upgrade DLC (forgot I didn't own it yet), so either it didn't present the Download option, or it only downloaded a subset of the Creation Club content. When I then ran with the Anniversary Edition in my library, it was too late, because bFreebiesSeen was set to 1.

Setting bFreebiesSeen=0 brought it back, but I decided to just reinstall from scratch per your instructions to be safe.

I should mention that Bethini Pie has changed a bit: Some UIs rearranged, more grass options added, and difficulty level names changed to match in-game values. I think I probably still muddled through it fine though.

Yeah, we haven't got around to updating the screens yet. The changes to Pie only impact the layout of the Environment tab and adds a couple of values outside of that. The preset defaults apply, and the changes referenced are still all in the new version.

I've finished step 7 of the Skyrim SE 2.3 guide, and initial testing shows an issue in which distant grass is much darker than near grass, so the pop-in/transition is obvious - any idea why?

Edit: This is with post-processing enabled. I followed the guide very closely, except for skipping TCIY.

They look pretty closely matched to me in that screen. Everybody's hardware and software is different, and LOD grass will never match full grass everywhere in all weathers and ToD. This is particularly true for complex grass with ENB. You can try using the updated TexGen and DynDOLOD settings in the 2.4 dev guide.

Posted (edited)

Here is the result with 2.4 TexGen+DynDOLOD generation settings. To be honest I don't see a huge difference - distant grass is still much darker, resulting in a noticeable pop-in effect:

Edit: I didn't make the INI changes for 2.4. I see they crank the grass brightness up, so I might try those...
