STEP 2.2.0 & DynDOLOD Summary Of Messages

I've been updating my 2.2.0 installation from earlier this year to maybe start a new game and with that in mind been also updating DynDOLOD, DynDOLOD Resources and DynDOLOD DLL NG to its most recent versions. After LOD generation all seems fine except for some error messages, which i am not sure i fully understand, but think they are related to the specific installation of the STEP guide. If anyone might help interpret these? Thank you.

 

* File Not Found Textures (Related to missing textures in Embers XD. which the author already mentioned to fix in an upcoming version ...)

The texture can not be found.

DynDOLOD tries to not generate LOD for or with missing textures to avoid issues. This means, LOD might be missing for objects that otherwise could have had LOD.

In the worst case scenario missing textures cause CTD. In the best case the game defaults to the typical purple default texture that indicates the texture is missing.

The log tries to only report missing textures in case they might actually be used in the game. For example, it seems quite normal for mods and also for the vanilla game to contain orphaned records. If such an orphaned record requires a missing asset, it is typically only be reported to the debug log.

This can happen in case not all required *.BSA files are not loaded for whatever reason. The log prints a list of every *.BSA file that is loaded. Check that none of the required *.BSA files are missing by comparing the log messages to the load order.

This can happen if a mod is installed that requires the textures from another mod that is not installed. Verify the requirements of the related plugins or mods.

This can happen if a mod is updated and the TexGen configuration was made for an older version or vice versa. Update the mod. Always use the latest DynDOLOD/TexGen version. Use the official DynDOLOD support forum to report problems or for help and qualified advice.

This can happen if not all required textures where included in the download archive of a mod or there are typos in the *.NIF files.

Generate object LOD textures and tree/grass LOD billboards with TexGen first to generate all required LOD billboards and object LOD textures for the load order. If the missing texture filename ends in *_trunk_[1|2].dds, make sure to check the Rendered checkbox in the TexGen Tree/Grass LOD Billboards options.

In case a texture is not found while running TexGen, it will be substituted with the default diffuse (full red color) for *.DDS or the default normal map (flat surface) for *_n.DDS automatically. The first should be very obvious in case the generated object LOD texture or LOD billboard is used in the game and typically needs to be fixed. The flat normal map substitute means the surface of the object will be flat, which might not be a very visible problem if at all.

If it has been verified that a missing texture is not required, try to remove or update the unused record, entry or model so the non existing filename is not being referenced to clean up the mod or plugin from generating unnecessary log messages.

In case a required texture is really missing from a mod archive or installation, notify the mod author.

Check if the mod DynDOLOD TexGen Fixes (Summerset Isle-Rigmor-Project Aho-Gray Cowl-Beyond Reach) fixes file not found textures for the mentioned plugin/mod.

* Parallax Shader Flag (The mentioned meshes here are exactly the meshes from 'Glacier LOD Meshes' by Phlunder, which i have installed, but do not seem to be recognized by DynDOLOD?)

The BSLightingShaderProperty for the mentioned shape name has a non-parallax Shader Type (typically Default) while also setting the Multi_Layer_Parallax on the Shader Flags 2.

If such models are used directly in the game - for example for dynamic LOD - they can cause CTD.

Use NifSkope to unset the The Multi_Layer_Parallax flag on any BSLightingShaderProperty that has a non-parallax Shader Type.

There are outdated LOD resources in the load order.

Install the latest DynDOLOD Resources.

Check if 3rd party LOD resources for mods have versions specifically for DynDOLOD 3 and install them instead of older versions.

Outdated LOD resources might still work fine in many cases, however if they replace newer versions included in DynDOLOD Resources or in 3rd party LOD resources specifically made for DynDOLOD 3, it is possible for object LOD not to match replaced texture sets.

Consider changing the overwrite order for the mentioned LOD models so that DynDOLOD Resources is the last to overwrite them.

If this is reported for LOD models included in latest version of DynDOLOD Resources and because the full model has been replaced by a mod, check the log for messages about LOD textures being created on-demand for the reported full texture or if the texture was part of the TexGen generation. Check if the LOD representation for the full model has matching textures to the full model in the game. In case there are visual discrepancies, make a post on the official DynDOLOD support forum to request updated LOD models for the mod. In addition to the usual logs, provide the name and link of the mod and install options if applicable.

Just edited for hopefully some more clarification. These error messages occured with DynDOLOD version 130, 131 and today with 132, DynDOLOD Resources Alpha 38 and DynDOLOD DLL NG Alpha 6, 7 and 8.

None of these warnings are consequential to our LOD. The roads stuff is indeed almost certainly ACMoS related and n/a.

The Embers XD and Glacier LOD Meshes issues can be reported as bug on those Nexus mods if you are willing. The ice mesh errors may well be resolved if we pick up Icy Mesh Replacer mod, so you can install and test that one to see. If you do, please comment if it's an improvement or not on that mod topic.

Are you using a mod that changes the Blackreach roads? The warning messages don't make sense to me, as the full models should point to the Blackreach road texture.

Just finished running the latest Alpha (I selected Parent > Child), and I got no Parallax Shader Flag warnings with Icy Mesh Remaster active. I can confirm that I never did get these warnings before Icy Mesh Remaster, so you may want to confirm your installation of Glacier LOD Meshes.

Also, I did not generate alternative terrain with ACMoS, and I got the exact same Textures Do Not Match output, so that is due to FOLIP mostly/exclusively.

Maybe you could work with sheson to investigate those DynDOLOD errors? They should be benign (probably advantageous) and not reported I believe.

Just rechecked my 'Models & Textures' section, which is (aside from the additions of DUST, OIL & SOUL) following the STEP guide to the letter. 'Blended Roads' offers the textures\clutter\blackreachroad01.dds - texture, which is mentioned in the error message.

I just redownloaded and replaced 'Glacier LOD Meshes' (which i didn't do before, because i didn't change or move the folder since January) and reran DynDOLOD Alpha - 132 with Parent > Child setting enabled; with the same results and error messages as before.

Then I'm guessing this is a new warning category that didn't exist last I ran DynDOLOD on the 2.2.0 build. Icy Mesh Remaster resolves in that case.

Happy to confirm there are no more Parallax Shader Flag warnings after switching from Glacier LOD Meshes to Icy Mesh Remaster.

Also happy to confirm that the latest update of Embers XD (2.8.4) fixes the mentioned missing texture, so there are no more 'File Not Found Textures' warnings in the DynDOLOD summary.

Not yet tested, but the recent version 1.3 of 'Glacier LOD Meshes' "removes the Multi_Layer_Parallax shader flag from all LOD meshes" and thereby should remove any 'Parallax Shader Flag' warnings in the DynDOLOD summary.
