Question

Posted (edited)

I posted here cause MO2 said if it wasn't for FO4 or SSE to post here and this is for SKyrim LE. First let me start off with I was following the Step Extended Guide at "https://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.10.0". I tried to use MO but kept getting download errors with NexusMods page saying it couldn't find the page. I don't know if this was cause Nexus changed their web address not long ago or updated their security i seen a few answers around the web. I just know MO worked one day and not the next. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling a few times same issue so i upgraded to MO2. Everything went great till I got to the end of the step extended guide it told me to click on the archives tab and tick MO manged archives but as best i can tell MO2 v2.1.3 does not have this feature and the makers plan to do away with the archive tab all together from what people are saying online something about they want us to extract the BSA's for dummy plugins. This is the step telling me to tick managed archives tab.

2.O. Launching STEP:Skyrim Archive Management

40px-MO_%2832%29.png
USERS Mod Organizer allows loading archives without their dummy plugins.

  1. In the Plugins tab, deactivate HighResTexturePack01.esp, HighResTexturePack02.esp, HighResTexturePack03.esp, Unofficial High Resolution Patch.esp, STEP DLC Optimized Textures, STEP Vanilla Optimized Textures, Modern Brawl Bug Fix.esp, and BWS.esp as they are all dummy plugins.
  2. Go to the Archives tab.
  3. Tick Have MO manage archives.
  4. In the archive list, ensure all the mods are checked.

Any work around help would be great as I'm not sure what STEP would have me do here is there a way to fix MO to connect to nexus again or a work around for MO2 no managed archive check box? I guess i could copy all the mods over to an MO install but i think that would cause mod order issues, ini issues, and other setting that were set during the step installs.

If you are using Mod Organizer 2, you need to keep all of these plugins active (checked) in the right pane.

  1. In the Plugins tab, activate HighResTexturePack01.esp, HighResTexturePack02.esp, HighResTexturePack03.esp, Unofficial High Resolution Patch.esp, STEP DLC Optimized Textures, STEP Vanilla Optimized Textures, Modern Brawl Bug Fix.esp, and BWS.esp.
  2. Pretend the Archives tab does not exist.
  3. Have MO manage archives does not exist.
  4. Pretend the archives list does not exist.

You can download Mod Organizer 1 Legacy (version 1.3.14) from the Miscellaneous Files section, but this is likely the last version of Mod Organizer 1 to be released. Mod Organizer 2 has been getting a lot of updates lately, is fairly stable, and is more flexible in that it supports both the 32-bit and 64-bit Bethesda games, so you may as well stick with Mod Organizer 2. I'm starting to move all my stuff over to Mod Organizer 2 as well.

Also yes I was browsing the net and I found the MO v1.3.14 after my post with the notice they contacted the author and got the source code and not to expect anymore updates as its considered to be end of life for MO1 that they took over MO2 with author's go ahead that they posted MO v1.3.14 on their SSE mo2 NexusMods page. I am wondering if STEP will update their guide for MO2 and extracting BSA's as this seems to be the way they suggest using MO2 with dummy files to save slots. I also seen another post that said HighResTexturePack01.esp, HighResTexturePack02.esp, HighResTexturePack03.esp, Unofficial High Resolution Patch.esp, STEP DLC Optimized Textures, STEP Vanilla Optimized Textures, Modern Brawl Bug Fix.esp, and BWS.esp. had to stay checked in plugins in MO2 so i dont know if extracting the BSA's would work in MO2 to save the slots.

If I remember correctly, Wrye Bash unchecks a couple of plugins that can't be included in the bashed patch so you should note these and check them after you create the bashed patch.

Apologizes for the necro but I have a question about this. I'm trying to get Jaysus Swords to work with how CCOR wants it but since the archives tab doesn't do anything apparently I don't know how to make the compatibility work. I used to be able to put the .esm and .esp file away in optional esps and then the .bsa won't load now, it has to be active which I don't want to do as my mod list is already high. Is there a way to make the .bsa active with the .esm and .esp files out?

No, not with Mod Organizer 2. Your only choices are to rename the BSA so it's loaded by an associated plugin (ESP or ESM) or extract the assets from the BSA as loose files. Keep in mind that loose files always win the conflict over assets in a BSA with Mod Organizer 2.

Is there a guide on how to do either or could you tell me how to do them please? It's been a while since I've done anything Skyrim related due to my videocard dying and I'm fairly rusty at this.

Run Mod Organizer, click Settings (the screwdriver and wrench icon, and click the Plugins tab. Select BSA Extractor in the plugins list on the left then click enabled on the right and change the value to True. Click OK to close the settings dialog. Now when you install a mod containing a BSA, Mod Organizer will ask if you want to extract the assets in the BSA. I don't recommend extracting assets from every BSA, but it's a viable option when you need to use assets in a BSA without requiring a plugin.

I could cry. I'm a total techtard. I've spent like 20 hours watching Gopher videos and learning this program. I'm so proud of myself that I'm finally getting my badly corrupted NMM game completely redone. And now I realize I have the wrong version and the explanations for this version sound like alien drooling gibberish. FML.

To the OP, or anyone stumbled upon this topic while searching for a solution for this problem. You have only 2 options:

  1. Starting from scratch again with the correct version of MO. As it is not unusual for a mod tool developer to disregard everything he did in the previous version when updating a mod tool. If you're following an outdated guide like STEP LE, be VERY wary of the tool's version you download.

  2. Ignore this archives issue. I have a lvl.28 character with this problem and it works relatively fine. I still have CTDs now and then but I doubt starting over again would help you avoid CTD completely anyway.

It's frustrating I know. But don't give up. Find a newer guide. Upgrade you gig. Try out more system-demanding guides. Beside from playing, there's also fun in modding itself.
