SatyriconX Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Okay! Thank you both for the swift responses, this is exactly what I needed to know. Â Cheers!!!
thenobody Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 How do I DDSOpt the AV packages? All of them are .json files and DDSOpt doesn't find the .dds files. Even when I place them in a 'textures' folder.
Neovalen Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I just did this again last night... I literally placed the entire directory structure into a 'textures' folder and was able to optimize everything.
thenobody Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Strange. So DDSOpt will show all the .dds files after you click the Recursive box? It just shows .json files for me. Maybe I'm missing something Java related.
Neovalen Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 If you've run the patcher your texture files are likely in your overwrite dir :)
thenobody Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I haven't run the patcher yet. I need to run it before I can optimize the textures? Running the patcher extracts the .dds files from the .json files?
Neovalen Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I think something went awry in your install. It should have both Json and dds files.
thenobody Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I ran SUM through Mod Organizer and checked and opened Automatic Variants (I didn't run the patcher though) and a folder called 'textures' appeared in the overwrite folder. There are no .json files in there. I'll try reinstalling all of it :S
thenobody Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 You were right. Reinstall of the mods fixed it. I now have both the .json files and .dds files in my mods folder. I already reinstalled them before though and it didn't fix it. But this time everything properly installed. I guess MO isn't perfect. Thanks for the help :)
phazer11 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I guess I'll have to write some guides for the wiki before I start doing more testing.
Spock Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I just recently found this, it seems really interesting! This mod seems to have undergone quite some development since it was suggested for STEP inclusion as well as the GPU market (dunno if there has been an internal discussion though). With default spawns the amount of extra VRAM needed doesn't seem too big, probably smaller then Better Male Feet. So I thought this might be worth bringing up again :)
phazer11 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 The biggest issue is the stress this puts on the engine. I used to run with it but now I'd rather just piece together a set of textures from multiple authors and stick with it and not worry about the overhead. It's a nice mod, though it and SUM seem dead update wise (SUM really doesn't need any).
Spock Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Is there any more stress this puts on the engine in excess of 6 mb extra vram (if using 1kx1k textures and normals) for each variant?
Aiyen Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 You only pay for the extra diffuse textures, the normal map is shared among all variants. It is hard to tell how much extra stress it will do, since it depends on mod list, ingame location, and time of day.
Spock Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I'm considering using this mod, my vram would allow it but I'm not sure about other factors (I'm getting close to the 30 fps for vsync). I'd like to understand what I'd have to expect. Is there anything else I should take into account?
