  1. good for you, Tannin; im always glad to see devs get paid, so thats awesome that being said, i feel many of us have developed very poor opinions of the NMM platform over the years and its almost taken on a sort of "only for noobs who don't know any better" persona (...just me?) So, it will definitely take some time to wash the taste out of my mouth and (try to) learn to accept the fact that I'll be using NMM. Hopefully as the software continues to develop and begin to resemble the MO we've grown so dependent on over the years, it will make this easier to handle. For now, Ill admit I'm a bit bummed and perhaps a little salty. (can you petition to keep the MO name and scrap the NMM? lol. that would make me feel slightly better) in all seriousness, I'm glad to see you make this transition from a professional standpoint. Looking forward to the next MO, erm NMM, update (yeah.. it feels unnatural even saying that)
  2. i dont think ive ever been past ~75 .. this is usually a product of the save getting too bogged down and wanting to start anew.. just recently started a new playthrough, MO profile titled 'highest-level playthrough' and using very minimal modlist .. should be no reason to get it > 100 using uncapper. looking forward to it
  3. very interesting, thx for the feedback. I may try a full clean install of MO, FO4, completely removing NMM and all installed mods.. maybe this can help me with the crashing. then again, if MO isnt able to handle all of the FO4 mods, that may not be the best idea.. but a part of me just wants a functional MO (i.e. one that doesnt crash immediately at FO4 launch), regardless of the cost. We'll see..
  4. well im glad to see others are even getting to use other tools like bodyslide and loot.. ive not even gotten that far. i suppose i could try to use those tools through MO, but when I cant even get the game to work, it seems pointless to worry about anything else, I continue to love MO.. in the form we are all familiar with, it is by far the best manager ever made (aside from wrye, which does a great job at its strengths).. I dearly miss using MO.. modding without it is just not the same. hopefully we can get out of this alpha phase sooner rather than later
  5. i cant even get it to start without crashing. I got it to ask me if i wanted one installation or separate (i chose separate because i already have other instances for skyrim and others), then selected FO4 as the game, then dialogue telling me it has crashed and do i want to send report to tannin. Thats all she wrote. Alpha 2 is able to star fine, but it comes with all of the other issues that weve been talking about for the past few months Edit: seems MO was writing FO new vegas as the game title in the INI file. changing that fixed the problem. However, now that I am able to start MO and get everything setup, FO4 will crash before I even get to load a saved game. FO4 will launch, the home screen will load for a moment, then CTD "fallout 4 has stopped working" (zero mods of any type are activated). This is essentailly what was happening with alpha 2.. unfortunate that the same behavior is happening 3 months down the road.
  6. yes, i have 4 instances of MO myself. tes4, tes5, fo3, fo4 (sorta). thats the beauty of MO.. all settings for each instance primarily reside in the modorganizer.ini file that is in each respective folder. This is better than having the settings in a common place like %appdata%.
  7. is that really the plural of forum? haha .. i dont really care if it is or not! I love it; gonna steal it :P
  8. glad to know its not just me..
  9. Well, I am really looking forward to a more stable release for FO4. There is not a lot of information on the alpha, aren't a lot of discussions going on about it (aside from this one -- and the list of bugs/complaints on github).. but with the alpha 2 being released nearly a month ago.. heres to hoping for a nice MO xmas gift. The alpha worked fine for me for the first few weeks. But then it started going through a series of game crashes that were otherwise untraceable. enabling and disabling mods one at a time to try to find what MO didnt like often doesnt give logical results. For example, you could narrow it down to Mod B (such that the crashes stopped as soon as you disabled Mod B). Then you could come from the other direction, starting with all mods disabled, and enabling them one at a time. You expect that when you activate Mod B, it will cause game crash. Nope. Some other mod, Mod F. I have narrowed down the source of a crash so many times that nearly every mod has been the suspected culprit at one point or another. You could even launch the exact same load order multiple times, without changing anything, and get different results. To clarify what I mean by game crash.. it's not the traditional mid-game, 'ive been playing for a few minutes and then CTD'.. you launch from MO, using F4SE or FO4.exe, the home menu of FO4 will display very briefly (or the intro video if you havent disabled that in the ini file), and then the game will crash, receiving a windows error message that the program has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution. Yesterday I went through i tough day of constant crashes, troubleshooting, etc. Was finally able to run the game ok with using only plugins. Then I tried adding back a few simple texture replacers. Thats when the textures stopped being shown in game. I thought maybe the INI had reverted causing a problem with invalidation or loading the loose files, but I confirmed that everything was as it should be. So, that is the current problem I am having with MO.. I cannot get any new textures to load. However, I have faith that it will somehow start working again, at which time I will hope that one of the other parts dont stop working. As if we all didnt love MO enough as is.. when youre forced to have to use NMM.. your appreciation for a functional MO is reinforced many times over. I wish I was a programmer and would help Tannin... sadly I am not. Although I am taking a python course next term.. but it is python programming for bioinformatics so not sure how much help that will be.
  10. bah! and buried it so it doesnt get the publicity it deserves! i thought this was a democracy!! Â :shake-fist: :ox:Â Â Â Â
  11. Well actually, if you turn on the game's general subtitles, you'll sometimes see subtitles such as Yol Toor Shul when a dragon breathes fire, as well as some other shouts. I'm pretty sure Alduin does that in the opening sequence, when he knocks down the wall of the tower you have to jump off. this is absolutely true, but it doesnt really address the issue since the subtitles are basically just the written form of the language, instead of the audible.
  12. Hello everyone, I'm not entirely sure if this is the best/proper place for this type of post.. but I figured it should be ok.. I thought of posting in the Dragons Shout with Voice thread, but I'm always skeptical of reviving old threads.. anyway, without further ado, here goes nothin'... As you may have figured out by now, this post is in reference to the STEP:Core mod by the name of Dragons Shout with Voice. It is the one and only mod in STEP:Core that I am unable to agree with and/or make sense of. The thing is, I do understand the idea of the mod, and I also understand the logic behind wanting to make the dragons use voice. However, with that being said, there are a lot of unanswered questions, which makes accepting this mod very difficult. Primarily, how do we know that a dragon's Thu'um should manifest itself in the same way that a man/mer's does? I strongly believe that if the devs/writers intended for dragons' shouts to be "voiced" the same way as the player character, they would have done so. Although both can (and do) share in the same language, it makes sense that the manifestation (or dialect) of a shout differs between them, given that dragons are so distinct from man and mer in all other aspects. Even if you don't agree with, or choose not follow, this aforementioned line of thinking, you should still wonder whether evidence exists that supports the mod. Yes, we do know that when the Dragonborn shouts he/she is "speaking" in the same tongue as dragons, but that is all we know. Anything more is conjecture and speculation. Without proper documentation to support it (such as an in-game book, or other lore item), it is my belief that we should revert to using the original understanding of the dragon shout, at the very least for STEP:Core. Then again, I could be the only member who feels this way.. and in that case just ignore me :D But seriously, I hope I did not offend anyone, especially those who advocate for this mod.. that is not my intention at all PS - now that I think about it, maybe there is actual documentation of this that I'm just unaware of .. then I'd look like a real moron for not doing my homework haha.. I cant say I've actually read all of the in-game books, so shame on me
  13. heh, interesting thread.. I said something over at the Nexus about someone's mod, like giant horkers or something like that (like twice the size of Angeline's Aromatics) ... yeah, i received a harsh warning about freedom to create, nexus doesnt discriminate, blah blah blah.. i told the moderator that i found it offensive that the "author" was making a mockery of the modding community with his/her foolish "mods" .. hehe, i just grumble to myself now and bite my tongue, as much as it pains me.. but since were already on the subject... lol im jk. i cant really think of any right now, but i certainly know the type of mods that irritate me the most ;)
  14. can we change the thread title to "open-source vs. paid software", or something similar, as this was the original discussion? getting back on topic (in the thread that was born from being off topic, ironically), to me it doesn't make any difference if licenses are granted via one-time fee or recurring subscription. paying is paying. i think the open-source movement is necessary in an age where having access to these tools is increasingly critical to success in life. it's also nice that some companies will grant significant discounts to students and/or academic institutions and their affiliates. i bought MS Office Pro for about $100 a few years back and was able to do so using my academic information. i cant imagine having to go through college without having Word, PowerPoint, and Excel on my own PC. Sure some computer labs on campus are open late, sometimes 24 hours/day during the regular semester, but having to travel to campus and do all of my work on a computer other than my own would have been terrible. In grad school we have to use SPSS (statistics software) a lot, and luckily my girlfriend's major professor has volume license i was able to use, but software like that is very pricey. On the other side of things, not all companies offer these good discounts. Adobe technically does, but the discount is not very good. I bought Acrobat (full version, not the Reader) from them last year and it cost the same as the entire MS Office suite. I can't imagine if I was a design student and needing something like Adobe Master Suite .. i think the student license for that is still around $500 or $600.. preposterous. Now, if someone needs to buy Master Suite for a business they own or for freelance work they're doing for income, then it's entirely reasonable to charge $1000 for that license, as it is then a "business expense" that you only have to pay once. As of late, Adobe has started to use a subscription setup, which would then be a monthly business expense to use the software as a means of income. For recreational use of software, that's where i begin to wonder how we can reconcile the often outrageously large license fees with the non-professional hobbyist. Or for academic use.. students who are paying thousands on tuition and, depending on their course of study, are essentially forced to purchase relevant software. I think volume licenses should be given out to academic institutions and then to the students for free. When you're a professional working in your career field, then you can buy and pay for all of the software you need, at full price. I also think more companies should show more of a distinction between professional/business use and hobbyist use, reflected in their pricing. Anyways, these are some of my thoughts.. EDIT: As far as games are concerned, I will always expect to pay $50-60 on a newly released popular game. That's just the way it is. It's been that way for as long as i can remember, going all the way back to my first NES (nintendo) when I was 5 or 6 years old. If developers want to package their PC games differently, separate the assets from the engine, etc., then that's just fine with me. At the end of the day, if I can buy a complete game for 50 bucks, i dont really care how it's packaged. I have grown up expecting to pay this cost for any and all new games that come out that i choose to play. This is why I think games should be considered/discussed separate from all other software.
  15. im all for open-source and the free use of softwares, but i struggle trying to reconcile that with the fact that devs and programmers are dependent on product sales to compensate their work (or, they are dependent on their employer, who in turn is dependent on sales). If everything is free, then all programming will have to be done voluntarily and the programming profession is no longer a viable career option..it's just a hobby. So, how do we reconcile the two? (sorry for perpetuating the off-topic discussion -- maybe a mod can open a new thread and transplant our conversation into it)
  16. is anyone else having issues with the 'check all for update' feature that you select from the context menu? Ive never had any problems with this, but now i am for no apparent reason. maybe nexus changed something again that isnt allowing the two to communicate properly. I updated to 1.0.11 a few days ago and everything was working then. starting yesterday, the update feature is no longer working. details: upon choosing 'update all', a message is displayed "login successful" ... then the status bars scans across the bottom of the window, like normal. After about 20-30 seconds a second message appears, "Request to Nexus failed: Operation cancelled." Before i make a bug report I wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing the same thing. EDIT: nevermind, i just found someone else with the same issue in the comments section. ill report it to tannin if it hasnt been already
  17. i mean, most parts of the profile are already transferable using the various config files found locally in each profile directory. modlist.txt gives the install order and active/inactive status of each mod. I move this file around all the time, from one character to the next. can make edits to it as well using notepad or npp. initweaks.ini has a few MO settings in it that can easily be transferred. loadorder.txt is obviously your load order data. not very important since you can just rerun BOSS if you need to get thins sorted categories.dat stores your categories, custom and default. (i.e. i have added/tweked custom categories to help organize) this file is in the MO directory (with the .exe) I have requested certain features on the bugtracker that would help the transfer of profile data from one to the other, but so far have not received any feedback. theese things take time and some are more difficult to accomplish than others. in the meantime, your best bet is to use the config files currently available.Â
  18. very nice work, i certainly commend your research. makes perfect sense. im a little jealous for not thinking of this myself hehe. I may have time to run some tests tomorrow, so if/when i do, ill post any results here thanks again
  19. awesome information buddy! I may have to give it a shot will you update this thread with anything else you find out? and out of curiosity, where did you find documentation on that argument? what does 22330 signify?
  20. yeah VPN/proxy is the way to go. if you can chum up the $5-10 US per month, i think it's well worth it. i haven't started using one, but have been considering it for a while now. ExpressVPN has gotten killer reviews and has some really nice features, good server distribution and speed. Private Internet Access also gets really good reviews. similar to express, but US-based (with worldwide servers), no logs, etc.
  21. yeah i completely gave up on it. In the past, I only used WryeBash. Then, when Skyrim came out, I kept using WryeBash (for both games). Then, I eventually switched to MO for Skyrim due to mod testing for STEP, bc of the profiles feature and clean data directory, etc. I took a break from Oblivion for about a year and just started (trying) to get back into it. Naturally, after using MO for many months and becoming very proficient and also dependent on some of its rich features, I was reluctant to revert to WryeBash as my main manager again. Thus, I tried to use MO primarily, then use WB for bashed patch only. However, after a few days of aggrevation, i reverted completely back to WryeBash. Aside from the problems I spoke about above, I could not get OBSE to launch/initialize. I tried debugging and reading logs, but no dice. I said 'eff' it and gave up. cant use oblivion without obse.. unacceptable
  22. still having issues? all of these type of issues should have been resolved with the most recent update (from a few days ago).
  23. yeah i tried changing the setting you mentioned, but no luck. i tried it a few days ago and then i just tried it again now.. neither time worked out for me. it is very frustrating. I even tried this other app "OBSE Launcher", added it to MO executables, but the exe is 64-bit which wont work for MO (only accepts 32-bit executables) Would love to hear Tannin chime in on this.. I may just make a bug report
  24. ok i think i just had a breakthrough with the CTD.. for some reason Oblivion requires that your mods be installed to [path]\ModOrganizer\mods\ instead of [path]\ModOrganizer\Installed mods\ the latter is the default path for Skyrim. Ive always seen the \mods folder but have always thought of it as a legacy directory I also use custom paths for MO downloads, but this doesnt seem to cause any problems. Now let's see if we can get the OBSE issues resolved
