No STD folder in Vanilla Uncompressed Textures
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's question in DDSopt Support
OK. Does that mean I need to redo the entire process? -
I have completed the DDS optimization process, and for whatever reason, there is no STD folder in my Vanilla Uncompressed Textures folder. My folder structure matches the structure in the example screenshot, otherwise. Also, I named my STD folder this way: "STD (Skryim textures.bsa only)" as a way of reminding myself what files go in that folder. Will having changed the name of the folder be an issue? Thanks.

Heads up that the latest STEP guide still links to the 0.7.3 version of DDSopt. I was about to post asking why the screenshots didn't match up with the UI.

Search Nexus Network for Mods button opens external Chrome browser
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's question in Mod Organizer Support
Thanks. Yes, I knew that. I was incorrectly thinking that the Nexus page would open with the left pane of MM itself. I've been away from modding for too long. -
I just downloaded the latest version of MO and am running through the tutorial. When I click on the Search Nexus... button, Nexus opens in my Chrome browser. Nothing appears in the left column in MO, and there's a flashing purple selection field around an empty area in that column. The "Downloads will appear here. Double click one to install it" message appears at the bottom of the MO screen, but tere is nothing double click. I'm guessing that Nexus should open within MO. Also, I am registered and signed into Nexus, both in my Chrome browser and within MO.

Missing (black/purple) Texture? Report it here!
peppergomez replied to Farlo's question in DDSopt Support
I am getting a lot of purple and black textures in the game, mostly on clothing, faces, animals, and sometimes rugs. It's mostly indoors, in fact only rarely have I noticed a missing texture outdoors. Thing is, this doesn't happen all the time on the same objects. In one game load they might have missign textures, then if I reload that same level the next day, the textures might be appearing. I'm not sure what is up with this, and of the best way to troubleshoot and fix this. Some background: Last fall I completed the preliminary steps of Skyrim Revisited install, all the way through 3.7 Clean The Bethesda ESMs3.8 Optimizing The Bethesda Textures Due to the complexity of the Revisited install, and to how busy I was, I didn't feel I was able to complete the full install, since it's very complicated to do. I was pretty sure though that I had properly cleaned the ESMs and optimized the Bethesda textures. A member of this community offered to complete the remainder of the Skyrim Revisited install for me, and did so, sending me a drive with all the files, the profile, patches created, etc. Long story short--- it didn't really work that well. Great frame rates in all areas but constant crashing outside and when loading new areas. He thought that there might be an issue with the Realstic Lighting Overhaul, so when I disable that mod and its patch, the game runs much much better. There are however the missing textures, which BTW also would be missing when the Realistic Lighting Overhaul was present. He thinks that the missing textures are due to my having improperly doing the DDS optimize procedure, which is entirley possible, even though I follwed the instructions to the letter, at least I think I did. Can anyone help me out here, in terms of what I can do fix this problem of missing textures? Thanks. -
Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback
peppergomez replied to Neovalen's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
Hi all, The friend who installed Skyrim Revisited did some troubleshooting on the install and determined that Realistic Lighting might be conflicting with certain things, so he moved it to bottom of the load screen. We then stress tested the game for about 5 minutes (god mod, enabled flying and speed up running speed, and zoomed across the map). It worked flawlessly right until the very end (after about 5 min. of zooming around, when it CTD. So the other day I loaded the game and played, and it is majorly improved since the prior time I tried (when Reaslistic Lighting was much higher in the load order). It does CTD more often than I would like though (at least once per 30 min. of gaming) and it only happens when I am entering a new location, say via opening a door. There is something about the loading of a new area that crashes the game. Even though I am using 4K textures, the performace of the game is fantastic- no stutters, and the FPS must be well above 30. Silky smooth. And memory use is below 512 per block (based on the memorytexturelog file). Does anyone have any suggestions? -

Thx for the tips. OK, so assuming I switch out most/all of the 4K textures with the 2K textures, is there a recommended method for doing so? I just installed the latest alpha SKSE, 1.7.0, which adds the patch by Sheson that assigns 512MB to the loader (double that of the vanilla 256MB). -

Here is the Memory Block Log. Note that the game is crashing well before hitting 512MB. Does that indicate that the 4K textures/Memory issues are NOT the cause of the crashes, and that therefore I don't need to replace 4K textures with 2K textures? Block1 Block2 512MB 256MB 85 8 85 8 85 9 85 10 85 11 85 12 85 13 85 14 85 15 85 16 85 17 85 18 ... (in the interest of length, abridging this) 339 126 339 127 339 128 339 129 339 130 339 131 If replacing my 4K textures withj 2K textures is still advisable, what is the best way to accomplish this? Go through each mod on the Skyrim Revisited list? Or are there say a core set of mods whose textures I will want to replace? Thanks. Ugrids to load was at originally at 7, but in Mod Organizer's configurator, I moved it back to 5 and began a new game (which this log is taken from). Do iMaxAnistopy and iMultiSample and iShadowMapResolution settings also affect stability/crashing? I have lowered these but still encounter crashes. -

Thanks folks. Yes, DDSopt done. I followed all the preliminary steps in the Skyrim Revisited install (steps 1-3.8). I have 2x 4GB 680 GTX cards and 8GB RAM. Do you all think that's insufficient for 4K textures? As for the memory patch, I will ask my friend about that. -
Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback
peppergomez replied to Neovalen's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
Hey folks, I just began a new game tonight (a Skyrim Revisited install that a knowledgeable member of this community was kind enough to assemble for me, and I imported the requiired mods, files, and folders into the necesssary Mod Organizer and Skyrim folders). While it looks and runs really well, the game is consistently crashing when I enter new areas (i.e. if I leave one room and open a door to another room, if I go outside from inside, or vice versa). I am wondering if this sort of crashing is indicative of a specific kind of problem. Note that when I am in one particular area, where no loading is required, the game is quite stable, and running well (i.e., I don't think my CPU or GPU are being taxed beyond their capability). Also, a fair number of clothing and creature textures seem missing (solid purple) though sometimes if I reload the same game some will appear, so I am wondering why in some cases they are missing and then in a reload they are there. Other textures are always missing however. Lots of capes, and clothing on male, female, and child NPCs. I notice that the game switches me to 3rd person whenever I pick any flora or berries, which is annoying. I thought it might be AutoPV that is doing that but that supports only the following: (Combat) Sneaking Drawing and sheathing weapons. Casting spells Pulling bowstring Aiming crossbow I don't see an option in its MCM menu that would relate to picking berries, etc. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for the assistance. -
D'oh...you guys are right. I wasn't running TES5 Edit through MO. Thanks.

I posted a few months back in these forums asking if someone could complete a Skyrim Revisited install for me. Pretty much everyone replied with "follow the guide" which I have been doing. I do admit though to feeling a bit lost, even with the guide. There are so many components/moving parts that it begins to feel overwhelming. I have followed the guide up until the User Interface section but don't want to proceed further until I know I have done everything properly. What I would like to do is follow all the required steps I need to in order to ready the game for running (building the bashed patch, properly configuring the mods in Mod Organizer and TES5 Edit where necessary, etc. etc.). So that I can run the game after each main stage of the Skyrim Revisited process. Because I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and because I am so pressed for time, I would greatly appreciate being able to do a few brief Skype sessions with someone who really knows this Skyrim Revisited install process inside and out, at various points along the way, so that I know I am on the right track. Basically, to get all aspects properly configured after each main stage of the Revisited install and run so that I know it is running smoothly without crashing. I would GREATLY appreciate it if anyone would be able to do a Skype session, doesn't have to be that long, once in awhile, maybe a few times, until I get the hang of the how to properly follow each aspect of the install process. I'll be honest: some of this stuff is over my head, and I learn MUCH better by seeing and doing than by reading. Because I am asking for someone's time, I could offer some reimbursement, be it an Amazon Gift Certificate or something. To clarify- I am not asking anyone to do the install for me, just provide some hand holding until I get the process down. I am missing this game, and cannot play vanilla b/c it is so inferior compared to the STEP/Skyrim Revisited versions. Feel free to reply or to PM me if you wish to help. Thanks!

When I open TES5 Edit, the only selections that appear in the Master/Plugin selection dialog box are the following: Skyrim Update Dawnguard Hearthfires Dragonborn HighResTxtPack01 HighResTxtPack02 HighResTxtPack03 Bashed Patch General Patch Even though I have other master and plugins installed (unofficail skyrim patch, waterbreathing breathless emerge, etc.) I am trying to complete the below steps from the Skyrim Revisited guide but cannot do so until I figure out how to get TES5 Edit to recognize the other master and plugins I have installed. Can anyone help? Waterbreathing Breathless Emerge Author: Alek       Warning:This mod does not forward some fixes from the unofficial patches. To resolve the problem(s), perform the following: Open TES5Edit. Select Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp and Waterbreathing Breathless Emerge.esp then click [OK]. Expand "Dialog Topic" under Waterbreathing Breathless Emerge.esp and select the "0010EEA4" node. Drag the "Subtype" record from Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp to Waterbreathing Breathless Emerge.esp. Click the [X] in the upper right hand corner, uncheck "Backup plugins", and click [OK].

To take the weight off of Neo's shoulders, since he is so busy, could some of the more experienced users here take a shot at answering these questions? Tehy are pretty basic questions about the fundamental/intro stages of the install process. Thanks! -

What's Iroha's guide? If there are other guides that will help explain how to do a Revisited install, that would be great. Thanks. Also, in 1) are you saying that the Clean The Bethesda ESMs and Optimizing The Bethesda Textures instrucitons here https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Neovalen/Skyrim_Revisited#Final_Steps are not entirely correct? I just finished that process a few hours ago. If I need to tweak or correct something, I would love to know now. Thanks. -

Thanks. A few more questions: 1) Also, the advice for configuring NVIDIA cards on this page https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:NVIDIA_Inspector#tab=Creating_a_Skyrim_Profile is nearly usesless, since the options in the GUI are now considerably different from those in the screenshots on that page. I just went with the default options because I couldn't match up many of the settings in the screenshots with those now available in the NVIDIA Inspector. 2) In Mod Organizer, there is a Warning icon in the top right stating that there are potential problems with my setup. I have the following mods listed under my Skyrim Revisted profile: Skyrim Script Extender Dawnguard DDS optimized Dragonborn DDS optimized Hearthfire DDS Optimized Hi Res Texture Pack One DDS Optimized Hi Res Texture Pack Three DDS Optimized Hi Res Texture Pack Two DDS Optimized Vanilla DDS Optimized In the Overwrite folder I see the following ESMs: Update, Hearthfires, Dragonborn, and Dawnguard. I also see TES5Edit Backups folder Under Data I see Overwrite in red besire Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Update ESMs, and under Archives I see red exclamation warnings to the left of Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfires BSAs. "This archive will still be loaded because there is a plugin of the same name but its files will not follow installation order!" Screenshots attached to my post. The fifth one show shows the various red text information in the Data tab of Mod Organizer...what does this indicate, and how can I fix it? 3) Nevermind, answered this one 4) Just downloaded Anicent Nord Armor Fix 1st person and there is the warning exclamation icon indicating potential prblems with the setup. I chose Query Info but that didn['t retreive any information. Not sure if I should proceed with the install or not. 5) Based on this advice: Notice:You can remove the Unofficial High Resolution Patch.esp as the sole purpose of the ESP was to extract the BSA file. Should/can I delete the Unofficial High Resolution Patch from the mod list under the Skyrim Revisited profile in the left pane? Ditto for the Brawl Bugs Patch? ("You can remove the Brawl Bugs CE.esp as the sole purpose of the ESP was to extract the BSA file.") 6) Can I apply the skyrim.ini tweaks that are suggested in the current STEP install? https://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.7 "Most of the following tweaks are recommended updates to existing INI entries. New entries will be explicitly indicated. " 7) I don't see advice in the Skyrim Revistited instructions for testing the game along the way when doing the install. Seems like an awful lot of mods to install before running the game. I'd like to run the game after every 5 installs or so, to check for smoothness. What is the best way to do so? Install the mods via Mod Organizer, make sure there are no conflicts...then what? I am guessing I will need to use Wrye Bash and/or BOSS, but I am not sure what I need to do with them. 8) For SKSE ELys AltF4 I see the warning in Mod Organizer: No game data on top level. What do I need to do to resolve this? Ditto the Skyrim Particle Patchj for ENB All In One. -

Is it recommend that I run Skyrim after I complete all the pre-steps (optimizing the textures, etc) and before I begin installing mods, to make sure it's running okay? I assume I would run it via the SKSE option in Mod Organizer?
