  1. The new ones. I just personally do not really think they fit in very well, but then again its also a a matter of textures, and I am quite happy with what I use now. And there is that ever going point that I would like to play the game at some point! :) That said then I do not think I am going back to ULO. This is fine for me on the mesh side of things.
  2. Okay could not really be bothered to create a new thread for this at this time. So here goes. I recently also decided to use stealth overhaul by kryptopyr. Now I also get that upon starting via the helgen intro, then I have an entire set of iron armor in my inventory, and a helm equipped during char generation. I have isolated it to stealth overhaul, since when I disable its .esp then the problem goes away. Will try to look further into the inner workings of it and try to see if I can figure out why it does this, since quite frankly then its annoying with that helmet, and you cant really remove it at that point in the game. Will let ya know what I find out.... if anything. Edit: Okay been through the entire mod, there is nothing in it that should alter the starting quest line. It does not even modify iron armor on the lvl´ed lists. Checked to see if it was due to some interaction with the bashed patch and my other mods, but nope. Since its so low in the load order it also overwrites most other mods changes... hence it is not even a mod to mod interaction. Really strange!
  3. I ended up going back to the 179e winter pines, since they do do blend better from my pov. Also it was easier to make the LOD look nice, rather then using the new ones. The new ones are just too bright... hence if I make the LOD match those then at night they will look really bright and out of place. In general I think there is just a bit too much yellow in them, reducing that helps alot, but the 179e version has just the right amount... so was easier to just use that. The curse of not just using vanilla lighting! :)
  4. Yes but he might have some crazy shadow settings... some people do, hence why I point it out! :) This could also simply just be a case of poorly optimized engine. But the issue is so small that I can understand why Bethesda did not bother trying to fix it. Yes a drop of 10 FPS from 60+ is would be a small issue for a game that is made for consoles. Also about the OC one very vital thing that should always be said. Make sure you have enough money in the bank just in case! And in this case for both CPU and MOBO, since if one goes the other most likely also does. Just because other people can OC without issues, then its just good OC practice to make sure you can replace stuff if anything goes wrong! Its so annoying to have to wait months for new parts to get in. Also Salvador: If you would then please do identify which... you would be one of the few to say they got and FPS boost, and a rather large one at that from using those tweaks! If anything just narrow it down and I will do some testing. Since like you say, then for most then they do absolutely nothing. Could be that its only does something for certain CPU´s even. But would be nice to know!
  5. Okay since I am getting a bit tired of repeating myself! :) Also I guess its a good idea to get this guide out in the open so people can solve their texture issues themselves! Okay the point in this guide/post is to help you identify when you have a purple or black texture in the game. First a bit of technical details to help understand what all this is about! Diffuse texture: all files with only .dds after them are diffuse textures. These contain what you see ingame. Normal texture: These contain depth information about the diffuse texture. To make a model as a whole look nicer. They normally have the ending _n.dds. There are other types of special textures, and perhaps I will add them in the future if there is a need for it. For now these two will suffice, since the vast majority of issues with textures is in either of those two. But back to the colors. Purple: If you see this color ingame then it means that only the normal texture is applied, and the diffuse is for whatever reason not working. Black: Means that no texture is applied to the model. The most normal cause for this is that you have run out of memory. Since if you do not have a texture, then the game will automatically go back into its bsa archive and fetch the vanilla one. If it is for a mod with unique textures then it most likely mean that you have not installed the textures at all! The most common cause for this happening is optimization gone wrong for whatever reason. Automated processes can sometimes fail. It could also be that the installer did not properly install a texture for whatever reason. Whatever the reason then its a pain to try to find the name of the texture since it is fairly well hidden! Before we begin the following is required! You need to unpack the meshes.bsa archive! We need to be able to access every mesh in the game. Place these files in a separate location in their own special folder. As long as they are away from whatever other mods you have installed. Also you will need nifskope. Free program that can be found at https://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/NifSkope You will also need Tes5edit. Free program that can be found at the nexus. Everything in the game has its own ID number called a FormID. Except for textures more or less. However every single mesh in the game has a formID and the mesh has the texture information stored in it! So once you see a model ingame that is purple, then what you do is the following. 1: Move up as close as possible to the model. 2: Open the console (Key varies from keyboard layout so your on your own there). 3: click with the mouse on the model. This will give you a number on the screen, this is the formID of that mesh. Open up tes5edit. Load in the official .esm files. Under formID put in the number you just found. This should provide you with the mesh in question. Vital!!!: Double check that what you find makes sense! For example if you had a purple rock, and the entry describe some sort of FX or shader etc. then something is wrong. (effects can have an ugly tendency to overlap with meshes giving wrong formID´s) In the colums to the right look for the following. Model -> MODL - Model Filename This is the mesh you need to find. Open Nifskope. Now first try to search your mods, or data folder for the mesh. If some mod made changes to the mesh its vital that you use that. If nothing is found then you go to the folder you made earlier with all the meshes. It has to be in there then. Open that file in Nifskope. File -> load Now you have the mesh loaded and without a texture. Down in the bottom of the view there is a section called Block Details Scroll down that list until you find BSShaderTextureSet Open that and you will get the texture path that the model is looking for its texture in! That is is people. About the fastest way to isolate a texture outside of practice and getting to know what everything in the game is! You can also go to the render menu and load up that texture so it displays it in the render window. This is normally a good idea to test out the texture. In any case you should now reinstall the mod that is responsible for this texture, or just the texture itself. Then you can test it like this again, and see if it is working. Hope that was somewhat understandable and helpful! Please do come with advice on how to make it all better so we more people can learn to do this and then we hopefully do not have to answer so many threads about missing textures anymore!Â
  6. Its fairly logical really. Object fade determines how many objects you have at various distances from you, up to the cell limit. More objects rendering need more CPU time, since there is most likely some physics calculations going on. If not that then just the fact that they need to be loaded into display will take up something. This is also why your performance drops if you install stuff like SFO full with lots of extra trees etc. More stuff that needs to be rendered = performance drop. Also I assume you tried to disable shadows entirely while doing this. Otherwise that also factor in on performance. More objects, hence more shadows need to be rendered. Other then that then I am surprised if you could notice a drop from 60 to 50 without having the numbers displaying. As long as you are in that region then everything should still be fluent in every way. regardless the only "solution" to this issue is to reduce the amount of stuff rendering, get lower detail meshes, lower res textures etc etc. That said then yes there are some areas that are just horrible in terms of FPS spikes. Heck in some areas you get only an FPS spike when looking in a given direction. Most of the time this can be traced back to shadow settings however.
  7. Fixed up mine yesterday.... man I hate LOD´s.... Almost impossible to get rid of that "plastered on" look they tend to have. I personally find the winter pines too white.. but then again I use my own ENB so that is why I have to make my own texture edits. Overall nice job on this Z. Its sure to help out alot of people with vanilla lighting! :)
  8. Well you made it stable... now comes all the bugs you thought you did not have but which are there regardless! :D
  9. Been saying for 4 months now that I want to start playing the game.... Yeah still modding... but at least its progressing, the CTD´s are going down, ILS´s are non existent. Atm its all just bug sorting, and making sure I like the weather.
  10. Then you have a mod that overwrites the texture and that texture is not working properly. Find the name of the texture in the mesh settings, and then do a search for the texture.
  11. Since they are elected then they must be like that and people must agree with them somewhere in the states. They only become really dangerous once they unite behind one leader who can keep them all in check. There are always these people who are going to get into power by playing on peoples fears, and prejudice. They exist in every democracy... However I find it really silly that they can be a part of the republican party... but then again I always found it utterly silly that there are only two parties in the US. There are so many small interest groups that are effectively their own party... yet if things go south they can kinda go back and hide inside the "big" party again like nothing happened.
  12. Identify the mesh. You can get this by clicking on the item while the console is open. Once you have the mesh name, load it up in nifskope and apply the texture. You should have all the HDDLC and vanilla textures unpacked from their bsa archives for this. Inside nifskope you can get the texture name by applying it. or just looking at the texture path.
  13. It is... since you reduce the amount of stuff on the screen you get more FPS. The higher you go the more FPS you get... just like you can reduce the grass draw distance and you would also get more FPS.
  14. If that is the game default... then yes. I do not know what the default value is... just know I use above 100 and its fine for me... I do not really like heavy grass everywhere, since I think it looks silly most of the time, and the performance impact when you have shadows on grass on is immense.
  15. The top one is the one I use... does not have silly looking trees. That would be the "newer" versions. Guess it becomes old trees in this context.
  16. Oh but I do! :) Guess I should have said that! But at any rate, there are some nice textures among this! and its worth trying out at any rate! If only the textures at least!
  17. Since you are using MO then its fairly simple. If you extracted all the HDDLC .bsa archives then you should have those early in your modlist (not load order). If you move these all the way before overwrite, then all textures will revert to the official "HD" files. Now test out and see if the problem goes away. If it does not then you could try to just go to pure vanilla textures the same way... but that might just look too bad. In general if you cannot run stable with the HDDLC, then it would be pointless to start a big DDSopt procedure, since the benefits would be rather low. Then you should start to reduce the amount of mods, especially scripted ones from your list.
  18. Just changed from Ultimate lush overhaul back to this... So far I am happy with it for SFO basic. ULO in its raw form is just too much, since it also makes many plants etc. have more detailed meshes. Guess a lite version with only trees could be made of it and then it would look a bit better... but for not I like the middle ground that this seems to provide. And yes I am using the vanilla version since those other trees really do look silly.
  19. In general I found the textures too green to fit into many locations unless you use one of the serious climate overhauls. But this is a general issue most grass mods have... they fit very nicely to falkreath but not as good everywhere else since the general theme is not green, but red, brown, snow like.
  20. The higher you go the less grass you get.. there is no recommended because its system dependent.
  21. Such a funny thing. People want welfare, but they do not want to pay the cost of it. Where I live most health care and general welfare is paid by taxes... this also means that the average tax pressure is in the area of 40-50%. Americans would never accept to pay that much, and even here then more and more people tend to vote for parties that try to lower the taxes. Yet if they lower the taxes they have to reduce the welfare, and then people get pissed and they do not get elected the next time around. Hence nobody is willing to do any major reforms since they know its a political death sentence. The current government is most likely not going to last another period, since they have been reducing taxes for companies, and the middle class, but they have also reduced welfare quite a bit. Its en evil circle.... too much welfare and people get complacent and ineffective. Too little and people get selfish and ineffective.
  22. Skyrim has built in Vsync.. ENB has built inVsync, how would an exterior hooking program provide better vsync ? Anyways, its easy enough to lower the performance impact of ENB. Open the ingame GUI using Shift-Enter. Disable effects for the largest impact. Especially skylighting and SSAO. The only thing you should leave on if you absolutely must is detailed shadows... obviously. Otherwise there are several parameters called quality... set all of those to lowest. Hit Save, then apply. And yes ENB is superior to SweetFX... since SweetFx only does one thing that ENB also does.... only ENB can even do that better if you put some effort into it. But at the end of the day the only thing that matters is that you think your game looks pretty! :)
  23. If it looks the same, taste the same, and have the same squik sound when you step on it... then I see no problem with it. Only issue I ever had with the mod was that if you do not also use a high res rock texture then it looks REALLY out of place.
  24. Only a madman would use all of his mods in conjunction lol! They add interesting takes on alot of things, but they are rather script intensive all of them. So yeah best of luck with that!
  25. Yeah ENB and loads of other weird injectors is a bad idea.... most of what they do you never ever need in skyrim anyways. But glad to see that you are making progress! I also just noticed this issue... however I have already optimized it way back, so I kinda have to go looking for the issue if I want to find it. And ENB solves alot of it when setup properly.
