  1. Hey guys! Does anyone of you know how to work with the info and tips given in this article ? I don't, but maybe some 3rd-party tools could be used to make the z-buffer more precise or sth like that. Maybe you know of somebody who is a crack in 3d-graphics?
  2. Another great source of information! dahlsys It doesn't tell you how to adjust the settings (at least I didn't find anything like that) but it describes every setting type very precisely! Is there somebody with need for work? a Step-Guide for Nvidia Inspector and catalyst control center would be VERY helpful ;-)

  10. Found this on the net. DEFINITELY worth mentioning to the community!https://naturalviolence.webs.com/nvidia.htm It's so full of useful information and how to setup your nvidia inspector... i love it! :D Check this page
  11. NOT confirmed yet:anti-aliasing gamma correction and line gamma tweaks may lead to worse z-fighting. maybe there is a config that helps? anybody inclined to try it out?as long as nothing mindboggling is revealed about those settings I'll continue with the standard procedure. Nvidia Inspector Anti-Aliasing configuration (except gamma) Testing mode: Override any application setting Setting: 4x4 Multisampling -> no setting has improved or worsened z-fighting, this has been my setting before testing, and will if nothing changes stay as it is. Transparency Multisampling: Disabled -> did not help, TrSSAA instead Transparency Supersampling: 4x4 -> FPS-Drop from no supersampling at least 15-20 FPS but it does look gorgeous!!! (and may help ignoring that stupid z-fighting on mountains ;-D) NVidia FXAA: Disabled -> afaik it's still a WIP so I won't recommend it. it did not help noticeably. and the lighter structures "lighten" the darker ones in the background which looks odd and bad at the same time... Coming up: Texture filtering optimization
  12. well that or keep your nose up while swimming ;-)
  13. go ahead! I got my own stuff I'm fiddeling with right now :)
  14. i would like it if two things are changed: look of the chests: if there is a golden chest in the middle of the wilderness... why didn't anybody clear it out before I came along the road??? either a lot less shiny and hidden by a big bush or under some sort of rock, or a different type of chest. it shouldn't be "Dovahkiin and the quest of the shiny golden treasure chests scattered randomly around Skyrim"-like. also a diversity of the different chests would be beneficial to immersion. or a quest line that explains why all the unique treasures are hidden in equal-looking chests. maybe a remain of some sort of mysterious who-knows-who who-did-what? implemented cheating items: probably easy to fix. just delete that part in the creation kit. problem: not everybod can do that, and only the mod author has the official rights to change his mod... anyway: GREAT REVIEW!
  15. yup, got the same "bug". it's probably not fixable and will probably not be fixed by beth anytime soon. as long as somebody doesn't look at everything in weird angles and just plays the game he'll most likely not even notice it - so it doesn't matter to bethesda. ;-)
  16. Z-Fighting-Elimination-Crusade What I will try to do is the following:Z-fighting became a far greater nuisance with the beta-patch for me. Don't ask me why, but that's the way it is... This is how I will try to get rid of z-fighting without loss of graphic quality (if possible): Setting: - Skyrim 1.5.26.05 - Launcher by SKSE - near Helgen (Screenshot ) - daytime: afternoon 2 pm. - viewing the mountain range behind the lake (strongest z-fighting for me EVER) Nvidia-Drivers: - Download the 5 latest drivers for my graphics-card: incl. latest beta, the 4 newest WHQL-certified versions: 280.26, 285.62, 295.73, 296.10, 301.24. - Check where there is the least z-fighting. - Not used: 3D, SLI, Nvidia-tweaks, HD-DLC, Mods, ini-tweaks and on Ultra-Settings only. Ok, currently I'm looking at the inofficial beta-driver 301.25! I do like the 301.25 drivers. they give me extra FPS and i think a little bit less vram stuttering (although that's probably just my imagination xD) Also I compared the videos of all the driver versions so i've tested so far and that's my ranking from best to worst z-fighting: 295.73 296.10 301.25 285.62 301.24 280.26 There are big differences between the first 3 and the last 2, but at the top there is only a very slight difference to be seen. If I had an acceptable internet connection I would upload all the vids in ultra-hi-res but 100 kbit/s won't do the trick. Also this is my own rig with it's own pros and cons and it is only my perception that leads me towards my conclusions. If you want the best set-up for your skyrim do the testing yourselves and decide which driver you like more. Also z-fighting ingame always looks worse as if you look at it on a video. and that's not only subjectivity. I'm going to keep to the 301.25 driver cuz it grants me 3-5 FPS in almost every location more and the z-fighting is nearly weak as with 295.73. NVidia-CP: - SLI activation: +/-? - 3D activation (hiding effects): +/- - Not used: Nvidia-tweaks, HD-DLC, Mods, ini-tweaks and on Ultra-Settings only. SLI activation has no negative effect on z-fighting. I think if there's any change at all then it makes it better. 3D activation and hiding 3d-effects has a minor negative effect on z-fighting. until the SLI-Water-Bug gets fixed 3D-activation will be more a have-to than a must-have... Coming up: Nvidia Inspector: - try out all different tweaks using if possible the skyrim profiles - every positive effect will be noted by it self - all positive effects will be tried out together and adjusted to create the best effect. - Not used: HD-DLC, Mods, ini-tweaks and on Ultra-Settings only.
  17. ... well that's exactly what I intended to do by opening this thread ^^
  18. Definitely!!! FPS won't drop below 40 for me at all but game stuttering is pretty awful...
  19. Hey fellas found an older mod which is supposed to be kept up to date. At least what has been done so far is incredibly well made. From all the retex stuff I found these are the best - though it only applies for a few of them... Link is here I think that there shouldn't be any incompatibilities since only "low-end" weapons have been altered and most of the other mods only went for high-end stuff like daedric or nightingale.
  20. Hey STEP-Crew! I'ld like to make a suggestion. Many people have already referred to it, but I don't think it has had it's own thread yet. I would like all the version numbers of the integrated mods in every release to be added to the STEP.pdf. Also, I would suggest every official update/preview of STEP to come along with the tested mod version. This has several reasons: 1. Many people who don't know a lot about modding would like to have exactly the same install as the "pros". 2. Some modders add things to new versions that might conflict with other mods. 3. People who already have a Full-Step-Install can try out the updated versions of the mods to find out whether it is compatible with STEP by themselves and post their results. If a certain amount of people confirms a compatibility it can be included in a new update. If people find incompatibilities the crew or dedicated members can try to find the odd one out and delete the conflicting files of the new versions and replace them with the old versions. Then they can post a guide to implement the new version of the mod with STEP. People can decide by themselves, whether they want to go throgh the guide or just stick with the old mod-version.
  21. Hey guys. Just found this thread on Kotaku. Here's the link. He suggests several mods. Here's a list of the mods not suggested for STEP so far (afaik at least). FXAA Injector (a preset) Better Dynamic Snow Cloaks of Skyrim Crimson Tide - Blood Elvenwood Lush Grass Lush Trees Faster Vanilla Horses I think his combination of mods will very likely work very well, otherwise he wouldn't have posted it. I have tested already all of the mods besides Cloaks of Skyrim, the FXAA preset and Elvenwood without any problems. I cannot say whether there will be any incompatibilities with the new STEP, but there will be some with "old" STEP mods. If you guys want I can try out the mods with a FULL-HD-STEP-2.01-install on highest settings. It will take some time though, and I actually would like to end my testing on z-fighting first. At the moment I don't have a Full-Step-2.01 install, so first I would have to pick through that. Maybe some others might add their input on those mods and do some testing?
  22. No problem. Go to your prefs.ini. Under Display add: bActorSelfShadowing=0 Should work right away. If not, then the command might be added to the ini. Just try it out. The worst that can happen is that it doesn't work!
  23. My desktop rig is pretty badass, but my laptop rig is not quite as good. So I'll check out the performance increase plus slight graphical improvements on my laptop and the graphical decrease from max-res mods to optimized mods on my desktop. If you can present the community a close-to-perfect pro/con-list of DDSopt and other methods I'll be glad to check them out and give some feedback via screenshots/vids/whatever.
  24. Well, congratulations ;-D I'm actually checking out the shadow-problem, too. whether I find anything interesting or not will show next week. This weekend Im too busy otherwise.
  25. how do I use the .inf file? i never installed any drivers that didn't come from the manufacturer's homepage...
