Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback
ciddative replied to Neovalen's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
Just working through a revision from Friday (will update with any changes one complete ofc), when I noticed a discrepancy in the leveled lists part of the Conflict Resolution section (which itself was last updated last Wednesday): My OBIS.esp has 1 item. My aMidianborn_ContentAddon.esp has 2 AMB items, so after moving I changed the LLCT to 3. There is, however one NON-AMB entry in the aMidianborn column -- (ArmorSteelCuirassB "Steel Armor" [ARMO:000F6F22]) -- which is also showing red, in contrast to the other leveled list resolutions which showed none. Is this the fourth item I should be moving? Is it an AMB item but with a typo? Thanks for all of this, CR is really quite fun in a therapeutic sort of way. -
Are you finding the game running okay once you recheck all your mods and launch? The only time I've had WB uncheck mods is when some are missing their masters, not sure what else to suggest if you're proficient at it

Just beat me to it :) It seems to mainly fix structural errors (including the previous fixes) and apply UKSP fixes made to the previous HDLCs. It's packed as a BSA/ESP, 58MB. I'm guessing the best practice would be to unpack the 3 HDDLCs, overwrite with these files unpacked, then DDSopt/resize/package with BAIN as desired? Here's hoping they caught most/all of the needed fixes. EDIT: the unpacked BSA doesn't distinguish which textures came from which Beth BSA. I think it'd be easier if I just DDSopt/resize/packaged this with BAIN and load after the others.

Regarding EFF, best practice as with any follower mod is to dismiss all followers before installing/activating. Once activated, upon speaking to a follower, a messagebox should appear instead of the normal dialogue interface. You can still use the dialogue system to trade/dismiss/do tasks etc, or you can use the menu system. It doesnt make anyone recruitable who wasn't before, just gives you more options for combat/inventory/behaviour. I had a conflict which meant installing foootprints prevented this mod working and caused CTDs, so good luck :)

Another vote for EFF, does what UFO does and more, it's menu system > UFO dialogue system, and it just seems better coded, more stable, and easier to uninstall.

With my ageing system and decrepit gfx card, my current philosophy is, "keep it modest, as long as it's better than vanilla I'm happy." Many thanks again :)

Thank you Kelmych, a very helpful and stimulating response, many thanks :)

The STEP mod optimization details page is great! ( only just found it by pure chance to be honest, must have missed any mention of it in this thread). Quick question on optimising the STEP mods. I'm trying to keep all my textures <= 1024x1024, through a lower res download firstly if available, or by the constraints tab, using 1024 on both compressed and uncompressed textures. For some mods that start at 2048x2048 or for which that is the only option (e.g. Book of Silence, Elven Weapons for Silence, Milky Way Galaxy), there is no note in the notes column, where for others there would be a Note 2 or 3. Does this mean resizing these mods is NOT recommended? Does resizing armor or sky textures have a much worse visual impact? Also Is there a way to also resize irregular shaped textures (ie. resize 2048x1024 to 1024x512) in the same run? It's currently skipping these textures, and I'm not relishing going through them one by one.

TheCompiler responded to that a little while back, saying something along the lines of "don't take it word for word". In essence I just think it means, make sure your performance is smooth and stable before modding, as it's goi9ng to takea possibly-hefty hit after everything's installed. From your descriptions, with the right decisions regarding performace and options, you should be totally fine :)

Need some help finding my issue
ciddative replied to 7hr08ik's question in General Skyrim LE Support
re: tes5edit - I just meant load your whole mod list in tes5edit and see if it finishes loading with no errors. To be honest, this is just to help people who can't actually get in-game without crashes, so less use for you. In terms of cleaning mods, BOSS won't pick up on every mod that might need cleaning, wrye bash has a mod checker that can scan for UDRs (can be seriously bad) and ITMs that a BOSS report will miss. Although that would require getting to grips with wrye bash - a worthwhile but involved affair to start with. You're not going to like it - but the only other method of investigation is to check each individual mod page for any mention of conflicts with other mods. Not so much texture mods, they shouldnt be causing your issues. But anything that modifies npc behaviour, changes meshes/landscapes. And yes, weather mods can come with heaps of issues if not followed to the letter. Again, can't see any immediate issues with your load order, and the 2.2.1 step mods have been used for a while, so I'd say it might be one of your non-step mods...that's narrowed it a bit, right? :) -
Need some help finding my issue
ciddative replied to 7hr08ik's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I can't see any glaring issues with your load order. Only things off the top of my head is that I had a conflict between Footprints and my follower mod (extended follower framework) that caused some crashes - removing footprints solved that. Other than that, could it be script related? Too many scripts running = bad. Also did TES5edit come up with any errors or did it load your load order ok? Hialgo boost wouldn't fix ctds - as far as I know, it just reduces resolution when moving. EDIT: Would height adjusted races chenge the skeletons? Realistic ragdolls has a BOSS note saying there might be issues with modified skeletons iirc EDIT2: If you do have to narrow it down, just uninstall each category or type of mods (landscape, effects, animations, overhauls etc) rathe thanone at a time. Sorry if this is obvious, but one at a time would be hellish! -
DROPPED Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized (by Vano89)
ciddative replied to Farlo's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I'm glad it isn't just me whose brain hurts at the mod description as it reads on the nexus! Farlo, you rock -
Just quick question, if using DDSopt as per the wiki and PCG4m3r's instructions, is there any benefit to then using Optimizer Textures? Specifically referring to the initial three "mask in image" options and the "Delete unneccesary files" option. Or has DDSopt already processed these as well? I always used these before trying DDSopt itself.

I totally <3 Gopher, watch his LP every day! He does use both, I also saw PW author comment that it was theoretically possible to merge the textures of PW with the extras of WATER, but with no guarantee of success or even stability. I don't think I have the courage to try that myself >.<
-
That is a lot of ifs. It would need to be stunning to be even remotely worth it, and WATER is pretty enough for me I think. I think there is/was a note on COT mod page about a 3.0 release this spring, no other info. But spring is far away, and STEP might choose a different weather/lighting mod anyway... Many thanks for your info Techangel85 :D

I asked this in the WATER thread also, but Any opinions on this versus WATER? In terms of compatibility/appearance/performance/immersion

DROPPED WATER - Water And Terrain Enhancement Redux (by SparrowPrince)

But are they 8 BIG ones? ;) Based on your experience I will give the med res a go. For me water really is a crucial factor in immersion; or maybe I just like to stop what im doing and stare at a pretty waterfall a more often than most! -
DROPPED WATER - Water And Terrain Enhancement Redux (by SparrowPrince)
ciddative replied to Asimov's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Hi guys, just noticed that this mod has a "med res" option under the main file, was wondering if this was worth considering with 1gb vram and a full(ish) step install? All other mods are at 1024 res where available, but I thought maybe the loss in quality was maybe deemed unnacceptable for the performance gain (if any) and the VERY noticeable nature of water in skyrim. As an aisde, as opticshooter lost some of the files relating to this and the last update was October, anyone have any opinions on this versus Pure Waters? It's still being updated, and I know it doesnt have the extra bells and whistles of WATER, but by all accounts it seems to do the main stuff very well. -

Will do. And are the Bethesda High Res BSAs still needed? The mod description is a little murky on this imo, and I like to keep my install as lean as possible -

Just to confirm, is the above procedure still required? Or even the HighResTexturePack DLC Tweaks by Eiwyn?
