  1. So when I increase the default MS settings the biggest problem I could get is FPS drops? I will change my HAVOK settings to default because firefreak mentioned that they work for quadcores. I'll set fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=2000.0, Loading times ar eno biggie. iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=2457600 Why is that setting so low in your config? I guess it tells the game how much memory papyrus gets. Shouldn't it be fine with a high amount of RAM (16GB)? Or will papyrus never require that much memory? bEnableLogging=1 To see if mods clutter the log with uncecessary stuff (very useful when installing new mods imo).bEnableTrace=1 What does this do?bLoadDebugInformation=1 And this? iMinMemoryPageSize=256 What is this used for? Most people have this at 256 as far as I could see.iMaxMemoryPageSize=512 And this. Is there a general recommendation? You have it at 1024. So here are the big ones: These 2 are the ones that give me the most trouble when deciding if I want to trust old or new sources. Setting these to 800 gives each "operation" 800milliseconds time do do whatever it wants to do? That means the operations won't end until the time is over? Sorry I simply don't understand it :)fUpdateBudgetMS=xxxfExtraTaskletBudgetMS=xxx Setting these 2 to values that are super low won't slow the script language down? It won't cause any problems with a heavy scripted game? What would the highest recommended value be? Generally I would like to know what the maximum recommended settings are. Like a.. medicine that works for everything.
  2. Forget my recommendation.. ENBoosts AF setting is not as good as advertised. It makes the ground textures blurry after a short distance. I'll edit my post, so that nobody makes some wrong changes. I don't know about that. I run at constant 50 fps (framelimit set to 50). So what papyrus settings do you guys recommend for a game with lots of script mods? I just want to make sure to be able to run a script heavy setup (although it's not recommended and I don't use it yet). To be honest I don't know what information to trust anymore.. it's all over the nexus. Lot's of people claim that with higher settings in the papyrus section of the skyrim.ini they experienced less stutter, less ctds and so on. So changing these settings has to be good for something. Or do you really think that it's all just a placebo effect? I'm not trying to be ignorant here, just want to find out what's true and what not. See this comment for example: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/925691-skyrim-memory-leak-fix/page-23&do=findComment&comment=8066173 1: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/32363/? 2: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50244/?
  3. Hi guys, reporting back here. Got a new setting to consider for STEP when using ENBoost: EDited: don't follow this quote if you don't want blurry ground textures after a short distance: Quote: "Now, quick warning, if you have driver (Nvidia/AMD) Anisotropic Filtering enabled, disable it, and use ENB Anisotropic Filtering, as ENB knows which textures should and shouldnt have Linear filtering. Knowing this fixes many bugs from having it forced everywhere from the driver, especially with Parallax effects. Verify ENB Anisotropic Filtering is enabled by making sure the following lines in enblocal.ini match what's below:ForceAnisotropicFiltering=trueMaxAnisotropy=16" https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50244/? Although I won't use any of the other settings that are recommended on that mod page. My increased papyrus settings and HAVOK set to 4 cores are working just fine... so why change it. Here for quick reference my papyrus settings in case anyone wants to jump on it and comment, not directly related to the reason of my comment, but here goes: fUpdateBudgetMS=800.0fExtraTaskletBudgetMS=800.0fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=2000.0iMinMemoryPageSize=256iMaxMemoryPageSize=512iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=2457600bEnableLogging=1bEnableTrace=1bLoadDebugInformation=1 Anyway, that was all for now. Cheers.
  4. I have the same issue as Synixtrix had, but not with a pure STEP install. And now the question arises. How can there be issues with mods that don't even overwrite each other? For example Mod Organizer tells me to load "Traps Make Noise More Dangerous Traps" after "Clothing and Clutter Fixes" but these mods don't even have the same scripts in their installation folder. So how do they interfere with each other? The esp load order is setup correctly by BOSS btw. And one more thing, I forwarded some USKP changes to "Interesting NPCs" with Tes5Edit in Mod Organizer (3DNPC.esp), but after closing Tes5Edit and saving the changes beforehand mod organizer decides to put the file into the overwrite folder. It never did that with other mod files. This is the first time that happened. Is there any explanation for this behaviour or a way to avoid having mod organizer auto placing esps into the overwrite folder? In hope for an answer, blattgeist
  5. Gravedigging.. sorry. Although the textures of that mod are superb, the alchemy effects are way too strong. Some ingredients have 10x the vanilla value. That's the only thing that's keeping me from using the mod.
  6. Loot looks very promising but I am with Kuldebar here. Gonna wait until some time has passed and the community widely accepted the tool. I also fear that BOSS will become outdated over time. There are some mods that have not seen any inclusion in the current boss masterlist although they have been released several months ago (mostly patches or special optional versions of a mod). Anyway, BOSS 2.2 works just fine for me so I'll continue using that until it becomes outdated.
  7. Wow good find keithinhanoi. So it only deals with ram usage huh.. hm. With my system I would be better off setting it to false then, since 16GB ram and all. But I guess in the end it does not make much of a difference, even when set to true I see no micro stutters. I will change that when I ever see some. But really good job on your research.
  8. I will try reservedmemorysize=512 for a while now. Let's see if I get a stable experience. I have no problem with brief stutter after a cell load.. if my overall vram usage is lower by enabling compression. Lower VRAM usage translates to less ctds hopefully. Regarding the autodetect setting, yeah.. we should try to get some general settings depending on the different amounts of ram/vram that users have and of course the type of system (x64/x32). I have 16GB RAM and 4GB VRAM, Windows 7 64bit... For a while I thought maybe videomemorysize=2x vram (~8192) would be a good middle. But don't ask my why, just sounds like a good number. ENBoost would take about 4GB of RAM on top of my 4GB VRAM minus the reservedmemorysize (right?) to process things then. Edit: So far only 1 crash, at the helgen opening scene when the dragon shouted for the first time. Full amount of mods installed ~200mods , 155 esps.
  9. I use SSME and SKSE 1.6 so.. that should prevent CTDs. Not enough tests done yet to be sure what causes what. My reservedmemorysize is at 256 by the way. I read somewhere that it is recommended for 4GB cards. I will switch to the newer skse version soon, but will disable the memory patch feature until it is out of alpha. Could a CTD be caused by a player not finishing the helgen quest and then going somewhere else, doing random stuff? Because I did just that for testing purposes. Some kind of bad loop maybe :) Sorry for being offtopic ^^
  10. Yeah that's how I see it too.. if you get stutters.. disable it. Though I get ctds from time to time.. randomly. But that might not be related to anything in here. Simply switching out of menus and into combat too fast maybe. Like when I walked into bleak falls barrow with a firespell, burning down enemies, quickly switched into the menu and out again and bam ctd lol... But that could be anything.
  11. Oh wow good to see some life in this thread :) I thank you for all the details Keithinhanoi and there is no need to apologize. We're all trying to help each other with this info. This statement is kinda interesting: Jafin16, 1 Oct 2013: "With EnableCompression=false I didn't do any specific tests to see how high my memory went but rather decided to see how it played ('cuz I'm fairly sure your average user isn't going to be looking at their Ram usage the entire time they play) and all I noticed was smoother gameplay. No stutters, slightly better framerate (1-5 frames depending on the scene). I may do some more specific tests today if I get the time." He should experience a better framerate with comprression enabled... I have found an interesting link for those of you who are interested, it comes from the ENB Nexus Forum: https://www.workupload.com/download/9W9HQ23O In there is a txt that gives brief explanations about what the different commands do and what the recommended setting is. From what I understand regarding compression is that people seem to experience less vram usage although as you stated it should not be less at all. So I will activate it for now and see if I get stutters.. But unfortunately I can not extensively test that at the moment because I am still in the process of documenting MCM menu settings for my mod, which takes a lot of time. I will report back about my findings after I'm done with that though. By the way is there any possibility to make enboost auto clean the cache? (F4 Key) instead of pushing the button every now and then? I also search for a tool that can display vram/ram usage ingame.. I used to run elys meminfo but I believe that is not supported by enboost/ssme? @Ixian Inventor The majority of the info on STEP is fine though. But you guys need more people. STEP looks like a fulltime job ^^
  12. Getting back to this after a while. @Keithinhanoi, you said "Setting EnableCompression to true will reduce actual VRAM usage" but STEP says "This setting will allow for more compression in system RAM by having more textures moved into VRAM. It is not recommenced to be set "true" if already near VRAM limit and be "false" if there is VRAM to spare." I am kind of puzzled by that. If I follow STEP's statement then it increases vram usage when set to true... and if I follow yours then it decreases vram usage.. hm... Don't you maybe mean that if I set compression to true it reduces RAM usage by moving RAM into VRAM? Can you enlighten me please?^^ edit: Another source says this : "if you have not more as 2 gb vram, set it to true but you loss a little bit of quality. with compression enable you can load more textures in your vram as your card have." https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/905060-realvision-enb/page-1501 The general opinion seems to be that if you enable compression it gives a slight fps boost by using less total memory (i guess that's RAM) boost but can cause micro stutters. I really wish information for this setting would not be so scattered all across the forums. Edit2: To be honest the step recommendation regarding compression is contradicting itself.. Quote: "It is not recommenced to be set "true" if already near VRAM limit and be "false" if there is VRAM to spare." --> Now if I convert that sentence to positives it says: "It is recommended to be set to false if already near VRAM limit and be "false" if there is VRAM to spare." You get what I mean right? Edit3: Much digging into the ENB Nexus Forum: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/905060-realvision-enb/page-2257&do=findComment&comment=11793980 Here are my results, I only quote (but without names, just read from the posted Link and then below): "i recommend all: set EnableCompression to true. great performance boost. the card can handle now over 190 GB/sek. readme of enbseries: Changed ENBoost, now it support up to 128 Gb of memory or about 192 when compression enabled". --> "But the compression its been said that gives more stutter than non compress?? What has been change for that? " --> "no, no stutters, better performance. enboost can handle now the higher bandwidth of the card. "
  13. Uhm.. you're right. It's a 770 lol. EVGA GeForce GTX 770 4GB Dual Classified w/ EVGA A I did not remember that too well. My old 670 broke (Darksiders fault :P) and I thought the new one was a 780. They couldn't repair it so.. I got this one.
  14. Hm.. my idle Ram usage is ~4GB, but I have a lot of tabs in chrome and firefox open all the time. That might explain it. I wish there was a way to set an upper limit despite having the autoallocate feature on. Like 10GB or so. But wishful thinking doesn't get us anywhere ^^ So it might not be super safe to have autoallocation on in every situation you say. I've read about that shared memory vram+RAM part before. But I thought skyrim would never ever allocate THAT much memory.. I mean 4GB are already a lot for a video card in my opinion. I used an nvidia gtx 670 before with 2gb. I mostly reached 1.8 GB without enboost (because that tool didn't exist at that time). But we will see, or rather I will see when it crashes lol. For such reasons there are nifty tools like MemoryBlocks Log and SKSE's log feature (if enabled in the ini). That dxdiag memory usage is interesthing tho. How much memory are we talking about? Maybe the 256mb is enough. Will skyrim crash if dxdiag runs out of memory? Gotta go to bed now though... was a nice chat with you two. Good night :) I'll check back tomorrow.
  15. Ah true, and also the VSyncSkipNumFrames=0. Should I add FixSsaoWaterTransparency=true and IgnoreLoadingScreen=true ?These settings are not included in the current enblocal.ini. So maybe it does not work anymore? New commands are: FixSkyReflection=trueFixCursorVisibility=true
  16. That's a very good project keithinhanoi. I can't wait to see the final product of that comprehensive "enboost wiki". As it is now.. information about the different commands and recommendations is way too scattered all around the modding net. Would be good to have it centered. If you don't mind I'll list my system and current settings for enboost: Processor: intel i7 3.4 / 3.9ghz (dunno why it shows me 2 values in my system settings). GPU: Nvidia GTX 780 4GB Ram, not overclocked. System Ram: 16GB Skyrim graphic mods are mostly medium sized. I use very little high res ones, like amidianborn book of silence. All textures are optimized with SMCO. All other mods are sorted and mostly compatible.. even spend days checking these out in tes5edit. My enboost settings are... I copy/pasted the [FIX]es from the current ENBloca.ini (non enboost ini). And added some other commands that were recommended here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50214/? Well not some, but only 1 command that is: " VSyncSkipNumFrames=0" Since it was not in the original enboost ini. I think I miss out on 1 or 2 of the [Fix]es compared to the STEP guide that can be seen here: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB#tab=Editing_Enblocal_INI I am also not too sure about my compression setting there.. that other site I listed earlier recommends to set it to true.. and STEP's recommendation is rather difficult.. I can not determine if I am close to my VRam limit. I think I am not, since I see no stutters.. but not sure. See here: https://enbseries.enbdev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2666&start=10 Quote Boris: "Folks, i forgot to write that new parameter added to enblocal.ini which turn on automatic detection of shared video memory, if memory manager enabled. May be this will solve stuttering issues when moving outside from interiors as seems this happen because of wrong setting made to memory manager." And with "memory manager" he means Quote: "Memory manager means mine, from ENBoost (ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true)." Source: https://enbseries.enbdev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2666&start=70 So you guys might want to consider recommending setting "AutodetectVideoMemorySize" to true for people who use enboost.
  17. Here is one more: https://www.iparadigm.org/pages/pnenb/ENBoost.html linked from https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB#tab=Installation. That site does not work anymore, I get Error 500. And if I may ask a question. What's the general consensus regarding AutodetectVideoMemorySize=true? Some people have reported instabilities with it being set to true. I've read it here and there, scattered sources.. so I'm not sure if it is safe to use. Also regarding the STEP recommendation of ReservedMemorySizeMb=512 for 4GB Video Cards. It kinda conflicts with a post I read here: https://forum.step-project.com/topic/4781-correct-enblocal-settings/ Quote Keithinhanoi: 3. General consensus as of late with ReservedMemorySizeMb is to try 128 or 256 for a 4GB vcard setup like yours. [...] But... if you're hitting your (physical) VRAM limit often, you must be using pretty hi-res textures, so then you may actually want to try setting ReservedMemorySizeMb to 512. Maxing out on VRAM also means you should consider setting VideoMemorySizeMb higher than 4096, to extend what is used as VRAM into system RAM (in enbhost.exe, as jafin16 explained.)
  18. Oh I forgot to include the link to the STEP Site, here it is: https://wiki.step-project.com/Recommended_ENB_Profiles#Global Also included in my main post now. Edit: It looks like I might have found an old description of ENboost maybe? I simply googled "STEP ENboost" and it brought mo to that site.
  19. Hi STEP community. This is my first post here so I hope this is the right place. I noticed that the description for recommended ENBoost settings might be wrong on a certain part: Quote: "Set this line to true to use the memory reduction features without the graphic modifications of ENB. UseDefferedRendering=(false, true)" http://wiki.step-project.com/ENBoostI believe the line above is wrong. Setting it to true would be for ENB - users and settings it to false for Non - ENB users, meaning for people that do not use any graphical modifications. Evidence? This post: from Skyliner90 in the ENBoost comments on Nexus, Quote: "UseDefferedRendering=true Some sort of rendering technique, unimportant unless you use ENB graphics." And also this post: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1042116-ctd-and-performance-patch-enboost/page-70 Quote: "Most if not all ENB presets work with ENBoost. Pick an ENB you like, use v0193 or latest enb, change UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false and UseDefferedRendering=true in enblocal.ini for enb effects. If your enb comes with sweetfx, change EnableProxyLibrary=true, InitProxyFunctions=true and ProxyLibrary=yoursweetfx.dll in enblocal.ini as well." So... am I right? Greetings, blattgeist. Edit: Here the link to the STEP site that I was referring to. https://wiki.step-project.com/Recommended_ENB_Profiles#Global
