Point (3), definitely. Compared to (4) and (5), it's far more flexible. Any user of CBBE, UNP/UNPB can always choose to add Bodyslide to his configuration to add even more armour and clothing if the available packs don't satisfy. From my pov, it's more important to give the STEP user as wide a variety of mods as possible to continue in his modding experience than force a specific but limited choice onto him.
-
Yeah, I've done this in the past with other games whenever my system reached its limits. Not there yet. Not quite.
-
I'd categorize a body-mod as a gateway-mod: it's not just about the mod itself but the possibilities it opens up and its flexibility. While CNHF looks right, it's almost a cul-de-sac: there isn't much content available and no massive support group behind it that suggests a change soon. UNP/UNPB and CBBE, otoh, do have content and support. And it's easy to suggest a weight in Racemenu (already a STEP-mod) that won't differ too much from the vanilla body.Add something like mature textures and the females don't need to look like actresses in a fantasy themed porn movie.UNP/UNPB or CBBE all add lots of flexibility for further modding beyond STEP without diverging too much from vanilla with a suggested basic setting.

Thanks for the input, Jafin16. VideoMemorySizeMb depends so much on the processes running in the background that the optimal amount will always be specific to one's own system. When I switched antivirus programs, I could suddenly use the 64bit-formula to some extend. After an update to my databank, 8192MB have become the optimal setting. Since you are present, I'd like to ask you 2 questions: 1. "FixCursorVisibility=true". Does it do the same as Double Cursor Fix? 2. Is "DisableDriverMemoryManager=false" also the correct setting for ATI cards?

DROPPED The Skyrim Distance Overhaul (by Grieche)
thommaal replied to MadWizard25's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Ok, let's look for a solution systematically. 1. Have you cleaned up SDO in TES5Edit? If not, do so, please. 2. Have you already tried to change your installation- and load-order? Even though SRLE has quite a different mod list, you could use it as an order-template for the mods that are either identical or fulfil a similar function in your STEP-list. In MO: Add a new profile deriving from your current one and manually drag and drop your mods within the left window into their adapted priorities. Then use BOSS to sort the esps automatically within the right window. Wrye Bash in MO: If you use a bash file, I hope, you made a new one when you changed your mod list. Better to make a fresh one now for your new profile. I know, I'm stating the obvious, but don't stash it or any other files in overwrite. That folder should be emptied and its content added as properly named mods to each specific mod list under profiles. [i hope you won't mind if I repeat those banalities - sometimes I forget to do the blatantly obvious, and you might have done the same on occasion.] Then you should be ready to take another look. 3. In case you use MO, your present installation order might still have taken care of overwrite-priorities. But as long as we haven't looked into your load order through TES5Edit, it's all guess-work. If you don't know how to look for conflicts, a youtube-video by the author of the tool was published some time ago. When you follow the guide and go to SDO, you'll see its conflicts. But given the impact on quest progress of higher ugrids, I don't think this is an alternative at all. Enhanced Distant Terrain 2, High Quality LODs, SkyFalls and SkyMills plus SDO improve the wider field considerably without breaking immersion. Btw, I haven't installed the waterfall-module of SDO. Maybe you could try again without it? -
A guide would be nice. I have always stuck to the card VRAM - 128Mb rule for VideoMemorySizeMb; but lately, I have tried out variations of "VRAM+RAM-2048", which in my case leads to 9126. However, the smoothest result shows up with 8192. Even some annoying problems with shadows are nowhere to be seen. It still seems to be trial and error.

DROPPED The Skyrim Distance Overhaul (by Grieche)

I looked at SDO in TES5Edit to search for conflicts. SDO's effect on the camp fire at Guldun Rock is "overwritten" by Immersive Creatures in my LO and if you used BOSS, it should be the same for you. That explains why Guldun Rock looks normal in your game in contrast to other camp fires. It doesn't explain, why I don't have any problem. But I'm currently setting up a STEP load order; maybe I'll encounter the same problem. -

Giant Campfire Blast Effect TechAngel85, if you have Immersive Creatures installed, could you take a quick look at the Giant Camp at Guldun Rock [coc GuldunRockExterior02] to see if the blast effect is visible there as well. ADDED oqhansoloqo, I just realized, you have Immersive Creatures - care to take a quick look? -
Looks like you are right; it's still missing records compared to the old DLC patch. ADDED: Something might have gone wrong when I installed the Content Addon. I only see 2 AMB items: ArmorIronBandedCuirassBrown_AMB "Banded Iron Armor - Brown Fur" [ARMO:5201A857]ArmorSteelCuirassBWhite_AMB "Steel Armor with Pauldrons - White Fur" [ARMO:5201F9C3]Add the one entry from OBIS and I end up with a LLCT count of 3. Did I miss an item?

In case you are going to add the new AOS "AOS2_DGDB_USKP Patch.esp" to your mod list, one entry in your conflict resolution page has become superfluous:

oqhansoloqo, to help performance you could cut iShadowMapResolution in half. SkyrimPrefs.ini[Display]iShadowMapResolution=2048 -

That's just your Wicker Man mod, TechAngel85. Maybe we could find out more if some of you with the problem were willing to add their mod lists and ENB (if in use). oqhansoloqo, have you already tried Grieche's settings for lower end machines? -

I neither experience such an effect nor a significant performance drop - though I have only checked in my own temporary mod list and a slightly modified SRLE. Well, I wanted to add a STEP 2.2.9 profile anyway. [intel Xeon E3-1230; 8GB Crucial 1600MHz CL9; AMD RADEON 7950 HD 3GB; Win7 64bit] -
I can't think of a better reason to resurrect a zombie thread. Yes, thank you for SRLE. The mods fit well, the instructions are precise and thorough, and the conflict resolution makes such an ambitious project work even for a noob. The guide is not even finished and it's already exemplary. Great work!

Looks great. And I think, I am going to try Fight or fly, too. Eat and sleep is usually my first choice among the needs-mods but it's on hold for now in favour of Realistic Needs to not complicate my SRLE setup even further.

DROPPED Better Males (by Chris57 and FavoredSoul)
thommaal replied to z929669's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I installed Better Males following SRLE and expected to see "Better Male Feet" to be dropped after the addition of an all-in-one-replacer into STEP. Do I miss something here? And thanks to Kelmych and Nearox for pointing me (and, I'm sure, others as well) into the right direction for an essential texture optimization. -
It always comes down to the specific system at work. The first formula I mentioned works well even for low-end systems, the second one is better suited for higher end and well maintained systems. The hardware is definitely an issue here, as is the OS; 64bit users seem to fare better (not surprisingly) - but, in the end, it boils down to: Just give it a try.
-
Actually, the information I gave, needs a huge disclaimer. I cite jafin16 from an ENB forum thread:

Anyone who dismisses ELFX' exterior plugin (raises hand), isn't affected anyway. :) -
Given your abundance of RAM, you can even get a bit higher at ReservedMemorySizeMb= 768-1024 are values that were recommended by Boris on more than one occasion. 10240 MB is indeed the max. value for "VideoMemorySizeMb". The optimal formula is your Video Memory Size - 128 MB. But if you add the max. value, it won't make a difference. But cards with just 1024 MB RAM should use the formula and add 1024 - 128 = 896 as the best value. I also comply to this with my 3GB ATI.

Thanks, very helpful. I use SearchMyFiles, btw. I should have realized the tracker isn't meant for bugs alone. -
I'm sorry if I don't understand the process correctly. Since ENBoost is recommended for Core, shouldn't this mod's status be switched to "dropped"? Newer ENBs have set "FixCursorVisibility=true" in any case, so the fix is already active. You could still add a line in the detailed instructions for the "enblocal.ini" that advises users to check that "FixCursorVisibility=true" is indeed present under [FIX].

Yeah, I have read that too - I just wasn't sure that this is all there is. But since the guide's recommendation is perfectly clear, it's definitely not an issue. I was mostly just curious. And while we are speaking of Perseid's recommendations, I included Fuz Ro D-oh to follow her advice. Is it simply an oversight in the guide or is there a reason to exclude it? Off topic: CJ2311, why did you feel the urge to (co)write the Explorer's Guide [shakes fist]? I was almost done setting up SRLE and was looking forward to, well, actually play the game. And now ... Damn you! And thank you - REGS is right up my alley. -

I very much enjoy the guide - but that's no reason not to nitpick. [Nitpick Alert] 1. Typos: a) Vividian ENB Should be "Vividian ENB 5.20" instead of ""Vividian ENB 5.10" b) Unofficial Patches It's not the "Unofficial Hearthfires Patch.esp" but the "Unofficial Hearthfire Patch.esp" without the "s" [that should be there]. 2. The compatibility patches from "Enhanced Lights and FX" versus "Realistic Room Rental Enhanced" Any reason why the "RRR_ELFX Patch" is preferable to the "ELFX - No Taverns.esp"? If there is one, a reference that explicitly states to not use the later one (or earlier one within your mod installation list) might be helpful. I know, you already NOT include it in your installation advice, so it's not really an issue [still nitpicking, mind you]. 3. Static Mesh Improvement Mod I'm sure it's my "1.61 + 1.63 update" configuration, but I don't have the bad path for the "tundradriftwood01.nif". 4. aMidianBorn Book of Silence The last paragraph advises the player to "rename textures/actors/dlc02/ash folder to textures/actors/dlc02/ashman." It's not clear at that point whether you still refer to the previously and later discussed "Content AddOn" or the "Dragonborn DLC." [/Nitpick Alert]
