Just came across it randomly. It's fun to watch!

Thanks, doing my best :) As for the mod, there is no need to install it - it will replace your user.settings file with the one you download and you will loose ALL your settings. I actually had this setting modified in the previous version of the guide (and I still have it in my own file), but I forgot to add it in the new version - thanks for reminding me! :)

Good to see you here Will :) Yeah, the instant casting mod is on my radar, I haven't tested it yet. I play on keyboard + mouse rather than a controller (I use that mainly for racing games tbh, just used to K+M too much, because the last console I owned was the original PSX ;) ). Not sure if I'll like the instant casting though, will need to test and see how it plays in game. It certainly sounds convenient! Another thing is, I don't want to put too many optional mods in there or the stuff that I don't use myself. I want to test the mods to ensure they work correctly and the more the optionals that I won't be using, the greater chance for mod conflict and incompatibilities that I won't be aware of.

Don't use any ReShade preset would be my first advise and then look at your shadow settings and (especially) foliage visibility range settings. They're the most taxing ones. In all fairness you can just use in game sliders, unless you want to fine-tune it by playing with specific values in your user.settings file (see the descriptions next to the values in my guide).

Rendering.ini does not need to be updated by you, but if you've had it at read only, change it back. I think the HariWorks AA is now controlled via user.settings, so rendering.ini is not used in the guide at all. Thanks for the mod suggestions! I was actually looking at BCE2, but I'm saving this for a 2nd playthrough, I want to finish the game with vanilla mechanics first (that's why I'm adding mostly cosmetic mods or the ones that make sense from story/lore point of view). As for the Reshade preset I'm using Uber Fidelity Suite 2 at the moment, but it's quite taxing on my FPS. I need to play with the settings to see if I can reduce the performance impact. Also, I still have lots of testing to be done with user.settings file, there are many more parameters I need to look at and assess the impact to the game and figure out the good balance for my set up. I may have to decide to ditch ReShade altogether if I find out that the user.settings changes make the game look amazing while retaining performance. There are quite a few settings that people recommend to change and tweak, but sometimes it can be just a placebo and I never change anything I'm not sure about, you never know the impact to the game. Learned that the hard way with Skyrim and ini file modifications... So now I don't trust just anything I read on internet and prefer to test things myself to ensure they actually work or change anything :)

20/07/2015 Reinstated Naked Ciri is Naked mod. Introduced custom user.settings file modifications with description I spent all afternoon today testing and comparing custom user.settings file modifications and their impact to performace, which resulted in much more knowledge of what given setting is actually controlling in game. The results are included in the guide now :)

Wow, that's really good news. Should have happened ages ago IMHO.

NOTICE The guide is non-usable for 1.07 game version. It was a massive patch and I need to check everything out. There already are new mod versions coming out, so I'm hoping to have the new guide version out as soon as.

LATEST UPDATES: 14/07/2015Changed ReShade preset to Uber Fidelity Suite 2 and added the relevant installation instructionsReplaced user.settings and rendering.ini file with a new one to accommodate changes for the new presetRemoved "Naked Ciri is Naked" mod. After all it's unlikely that Ciri would be naked in that scene. To uninstall Naked Ciri is Naked mod unpack the mod archive again to \The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\content\content0\bundles folder and run Uninstall.bat file.

Yeah, I'm waiting for that one too! I'm currently replaying Enemy Within with Long War mod - what a game!

Hey there Spock. Thanks for your post and feedback. I actually use a different ReShade preset to the one in the guide and therefore I use in game AA again. I did notice that FXAA was quite bad! I still need to test that new preset in a few more weathers and locations, because it wasn't designed specifically for Cutscene Lighting mod, but it seems to be working really well with it - but it needs more testing to ensure it looks good in all conditions. LATEST UPDATES: 09/07/2015Added Miscellaneous section and a new mod: Gwent Redone and Alternate ArtReplaced user.settings and rendering.ini file with a new one with some modified values

Update: 06/07/2015 Added Gameplay and Mechanics section and a new mod: Fix Exp for quest Testing new ReShade presets Researching how to merge mods that change the same bundle files

Argh, sorry for multiple posts, but I've been working on the guide all day today, so lots of updates! I tested both of them and I didn't notice any difference whatsoever in texture quality or animations... But maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, I'd love to see some compares showing these settings working.

Yeah, it was exactly this. They can't re-pack the new textures into the right format. I wonder if the new RK will be based on the one for Witcher 2. I may actually have a look at the old one, just to get a feel for it. I've only ever made 1 mod - for Skyrim, it was quite a simple one and I used TES5EDIT for it, but I'm really itchy to learn how to make mods for Witcher 3...

Quick update of the guide: 25/06/2015 - Added couple of warning messages to the Configuration Files section - Added Requirements section Time to test these additional settings and couple of those mods mentioned earlier. Watch this space! :)

There was a discussion on the Polish forums about the textures today. Sadly, at this point, there's no way to do it. We need RK for that. Naked Ciri model was in game from the beginning, it's a vanilla asset that was never used in the release version, from what I read on that mod's page. Thanks for good word, I learned from the best: STEP, Skyrim Revisited and Fear and Loathing in New Vegas. It's those guys that deserve the credit for an easy to follow template that can be used for any guide really. I actually have a GTA V mod guide in the works, but it's merely a draft for now, as I am focusing on W3. Enjoy!
-
Thanks, I'll hold off with these 2 mods then. That's actually another reason I don't want to add too many fix mods at this stage and focusing mainly on visual ones or the ones that make sense from lore and game story point of view. Not all the DLC's are released yet and I'm sure there'll be a ton of updates and fixes in the coming months.

Nice one, thanks for all the info. Where can I find information about 1.07? I wasn't aware of those settings file 2 tweaks, I'll test them out! As for the decals spawn I'll need to have a look at my notes at home and see where it came from. I think that user.settings takes priority over rendering.ini. It's still a grey area, as there isn't much info about it. The 20.0f came from Hunter's Config Tool, which I initially used to improve the settings, which I then fine tuned manually, so the 40 must came from elsewhere. It may have been nVidia Tweak Guide for W3 or that Polish Gry-Online forum thread by A.l.e.x. I need to check. This record controls how far away you can see the cuts with blood splatters on enemies as far as I'm aware, so perhaps there is no difference between 20 and 40... Not sure if these can be caused by crossbow, which would be the only way to test it, unless you have a VERY long sword :) ::EDIT:: Actually this may be the range at which that the blood splatters are visible on the ground... I'll need to check this out. Thanks for pointing this out. ::EDIT2:: The RGS is one of the presets on my list :) Great minds think alike! ::EDIT3:: I actually just realised that this: [Localization]RequestedSpeechLanguage=SpeechLanguage=PLRequestedTextLanguage=TextLanguage=PLSubtitles=false Could change the language to Polish, but not sure what'd happened if you don't have the Polish one installed... I'll need to change that, as majority of people on these forums will play in Enlish I reckon...

Hey there Astakos. Thanks for the recommendation. It's actually on the "to be tested" list :) Glad you confirmed it working! I was planning to add an "Optional Mods" section and include it there. The progress was somewhat delayed by the problems with nvidia drivers and I spent most of my evening yesterday on getting the user.settings and rendering.ini right for performance, but I'll do some mod testing tonight and update the guide. The other mods I was going to test are these: Trophy Bonuses Redone by Sezurus (I think the vanilla trophies are boring, but I may hold off with introducing this mod until I advance my game a bit more to get more of the vanilla ones)Books after potions by ghost (seems like a really convenient inventory fix)Craft fix for runes and glyphs by ghost (makes sense)Improved Saddlebags by iforgotmysocks (thinking of using 1.5 version, as the other ones would be OP - however I have read that W3 may get a storage chests sometime soon so I may ditch this mod if that's the case) ::EDIT:: It's GeralT! :D

The grass drawing distance wasn't actually that bad performance hit, but it caused the grass to disappear/reappear constantly. It was annoying and didn't look nice at all. In the end I had to leave it at vanilla value of 1. Any other value caused the magical grass trick :/ The foliage drawing distance setting was the main performance hit and stuttering cause. With the old setting (4) I got between 32-40 FPS in forest areas (the lowest FPS in game for me). Now (2) it's between 45-55, so it's a massive improvement!
-
Guide updated: 24/06/2015Added new user.settings file. Over 6 hours of testing resulted in much better performance without a visible hit to quality. Stuttering fixed. Disappearing grass fixed. Enabled missing DLCs.Added rendering.ini file settings. The game not only looks much better now, but it also runs very smoothly! Really happy with the progress. Main culprits here were the foliage and grass drawing distance records. Both were reduced slightly, which fixed stuttering, disappearing grass and improved performance greatly. Next steps: test some mods that I have recently discovered and test couple of other ReShade presets that looked promising on Nexus. Happy days!

WARNING! A few (sic!) latest nVidia drivers cause crashes when using various applications. The Witcher 3, GTA V and Chrome browser were mentioned. The last reported stable driver is 347.88, however reports vary for different users. It's always a driver below version 350. nVidia are apparently working on a solution. Please be careful when using this guide, as the more you throw at the game, the higher crash chance. The usual crash involves "Graphical Driver Stopped Responding" message or your computer screen going blank and your PC freezing, where manual restart is required. ::EDIT:: I downgraded to 350.12 and it seems stable for me, but I didn't do too much testing.
