  1. They gain exp if used successfully: - Offensive spells and targeted spells in general (Destruction spells, Furry, Fear, Calm spells from Illusion, Sun spells from Restoration) - you need to actually hit the target. - Conjuration - you must summon a bound weapon (and probably other summons) while being in combat, not before you enter combat. - Buff spells - like Muffle from Illusion, or Candlelight and Oakskin form Alteration give exp at any time, regardless of combat. - Healing spells - you need to actually heal yourself or others to gain exp. Casting a healing spell at full HP does nothing.
  2. Just as I thought. That is actually really nice. Before, I was avoiding reading skill-books because I would gain levels too fast, even if it was a useless skill-book for me. This actually makes it a bit like real learning.
  3. I have looked at the mods you linked, and really like the look of Reading Is Good (SKSE). In the comments there is nothing about it working on the newest patch, but I will check it out. If I combine it with settings from Slower Leveling for Skyrim Skill Uncapper or Experience Multipliers (MCM sliders for each skill), do they cancel each other out? For example: I make it so that leveling skills is 20% slower, but after reading 5 books I get a +20% to leveling speed, so it brings it back to regular leveling speed. That would slow down the leveling speed at the start of the game, and bring it back up latter after finding the books.
  4. Thank you for your pointers. Of course, I understand that everyone playstyle is different and that everyone has their own subjective opinions about "the best way" to play the game. I would like to hear what other people think, so I can better find what could possibly work with what I have noticed. Btw, what other mods do you use for balancing leveling? Without any changes to the INI, in my playthrough I saw some problems (in my opinion): - lockpicking is leveling way to fast. almost every lock is giving me a skill increase. And you can't really avoid lockpicking in the game. This should be much lower, I think. - I was gaining light armor levels pretty fast. Vokrii makes it that you gain light armor experience by being in combat while wearing at least 2 Light Armor pieces whether or not you get hit. So maybe I should slow this down a bit. Heavy armor probably has the same problem. - I was using conjuration only for bound weapons, and I only get experience for it if I summon the weapon in combat. And that makes it pretty slow. Not sure how it works with summoning creatures, since I didn't use those spells. - I leveled up speech tree very fast by selling loot. I am not sure if installing an economy mod that reduces the price at which you can sell items, would decrease the rate of leveling, or is it based of something else. Otherwise, I would probably slow it down a bit too.
  5. Do you guys have any recommendations for changes here for leveling skills and leveling in general. Considering STEP recommends mods that slow down Main quest and Guild quests, I feel like I am leveling too fast. For example, I am already level 25, and I only did Horn of Jurgen Windcaller main quest, Proving Honor from the Companions, and haven't even started other guilds. I mostly just did quests around Whiterun, and some radiant quests from Companions. What changes have you made for your playthroughs?
  6. I came to the Step 5 of the guide, and am running DynDOLOD. When I start it, I get the following message: Deleted reference Update.esm [REFR:000C8701] (places TreeDeadShrub [TREE:000A731C] in GRUP Cell Temporary Children of FrostflowLighthouseExterior01 [CELL:00008F29] (in Tamriel "Skyrim" [WRLD:0000003C] at 15,21))> On the Support forum that was linked with the above message, I have found that it means that Update.esm contains at least one deleted reference. It needs to be cleaned with xEdit. But here we said that nothing except CC plugins need cleaning. How should I proceed? Just Auto-clean Update.esm, or are there some special rules for cleaning it?
  7. In SkyUI detailed instructions it says: "As a temporary measure to fix an issue introduced with game runtime update 1.6.1130, also install SkyUI SE - Difficulty Persistence Fix as a separate mod at one higher priority than SkyUI." But after installing "SkyUI SE - Flashing Savegames Fix" the "SkyUI SE - Difficulty Persistence Fix" is marked as redundant in MO2. I am guessing one of the 2 fixes is no longer required. Which one should I keep? Sorry if I am being annoying with all the questions I am posting.
  8. In the guide the following is written about the cleaning of this mod: Load the FacegenForKids.esp in xEdit. Locate record: 00014132 and select it. Scroll down to Packages(aligned). On the FacegenForKids column, there will be one package listed that reads: [xxxxxxxx]< Error: Could not be resolved >. Right-click on this listing and select Remove. Close xEdit, saving the edited plugin when prompted. Problem is that there is no Packages (aligned), only Packages, and there is no error shown for me to remove. Am I doing something wrong or are these instructions out of date? Sorry, I run xEdit again, and now it showed the things mentioned in the guide. Please ignore this post.
  9. Hello, me again In the STEP guide instructions given for this mod are: "Install the High Hrothgar Fixed main file. Merge the High Hrothgar Fixed - ELFX Patch optional file." But the mod recently got updated and the ELFX patch is not available on the page anymore. Is the patch mandatory? Will all hell break lose if I don't install it?
  10. Good to know. Thank you again.
  11. Yeah, LOOT only shows CC plugins as dirty. That is why I ask.
  12. Thank you. It worked perfectly. I have one more question. I remember that in previous versions of STEP guide, in the section about Cleaning Vanilla Masters there were explanations about cleaning the original game and DLC. Now that section is not present, and LOOT only says that I should clean these 28 CC plugins. Does that mean that cleaning Update, Dawnguard, Heartfire and Dragonborn are no longer required?
  13. I have a problem with STEP 3 of the guide. After installing the game, and setting up all the tools, it is time for cleaning Vanilla Master Plugins. I sort plugins with LOOT, it shows me 28 CC plugins that need cleaning. I do the Standard cleaning procedure on them. All is good. Run LOOT, it shows that all plugins are clean now. I do the next step and move all the clean plugins into the "Cleaned Vanilla Masters" mod that I created in MO2, rename all the backup plugins back to the original name and move them from "xEdit Output" back to Data folder. But if I start the game (which is required after finishing installing the 02-Extenders part of the guide) I get the in-game message "Thank you for buying Anniversary, CC mods will now be downloaded" or something like that. And it downloads all the CC mods again. Now the problem starts. All the cleaned plugins are missing from "Cleaned Vanilla Masters". The mod is empty. The list on the left side of the MO2 only shows the 28 mods that were previously cleaned, but LOOT now says that they all require cleaning again. And the "Override" at the bottom of the left side of MO2 is full with all the CC mods redownloaded. I have no clue what I did wrong. It happened twice now, and I had to uninstall and reinstall the whole game to reset everything to start, so I can try again. Can anyone help?
