They should really use RCRN Classic or Pure instead of Legacy. Legacy is the closest to vanilla of the three presets, and the other two provide a darker image resulting in a much more dynamic picture. Here's my RCRN Classic: ...Then again, everyone probably knew that seeing as how it's part of the regular STEP install.

Texture Popping - [SOLVED]

Are you looking at a particular area to test? If so what is it? I'll check it out at home and see if I get the same thing. -
Texture Popping - [SOLVED]
JudgmentJay replied to MadWizard25's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Sorry, guess I used the wrong terminology. The point is I can see the textures changing at a very close range and it's pretty distracting. It's like the path is completely bare and bland then all the sudden it has texture. Tomorrow I'm going to back up textures/meshes and do the beginning of a STEP install and compare. -
Texture Popping - [SOLVED]
JudgmentJay replied to MadWizard25's question in General Skyrim LE Support
This may just be me being crazy/ocd, but I tried out the Texture Pack Combiner, and as I was checking out the result (no other mods/textures installed), I noticed the ground LOD loading in at a very close distance as I traveled N/NE down the path from Ivarstead. Like 20 feet in front of me. That doesn't seem normal... is it? I don't recall this happening with a normal STEP install. -
Texture Popping - [SOLVED]

It'd be nice if there were a way to have higher uGrids for textures/lod only. I guess that's not possible? -
Texture Popping - [SOLVED]
JudgmentJay replied to MadWizard25's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I think the only way to eliminate or at least greatly minimize lod fade-in is with uGrids set to 7... or higher. Z-Fighting tweaks + Skyrim Distance Overhaul is probably the second best option as most things are at least visible in the distance, and the lod -> full resolution transition is much less noticeable than a non-existent -> visible transition. I've always wondered... what exactly is it that causes the instability with increased uGrids? I'm assuming it's just an engine limitation as most computers mid-range or higher should be able to handle that just fine. -
Looks pretty amazing, but it seems like it'll be quite a while before it's finished. Definitely something to keep an eye on.

Yeah I turned off the general city background voices as well as the pub voices. Was a bit immersion-breaking imo. -

Looks like all the Sounds of Skyrim mods were taken offline due to save game bloat problems: https://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1375181-relwip-sounds-of-skyrim/page__view__findpost__p__21220914 -

force constant clock speed for kepler GPU's
JudgmentJay replied to LeetMiniWheat's topic in General Game Discussion
I can't say it was 100% stable, but it passed a number of 3DMark Vantage and Heaven Benchmarks at that speed with no visible artifacts. I didn't do any real-world gaming though so who knows. I felt like it shouldn't be stable at that speed since it seems like most people hit a wall at around 500, so I backed it down. I doubt there's any real-world performance gains to be had there anyway. -

JudgmentJay replied to LeetMiniWheat's topic in General Game Discussion
I keep them at a conservative +130/+500. I know the max core is somewhere around 160 and I'm not sure for memory... I've had it up to a stable +525. -

Yeah, I meant permanent as in not even having to mess with the batch files. Seems good though! -

Interesting. Have you noticed any change in performance? I wish I could just run them in full power mode permanently as the difference between idle and full power on my watercooling setup is only 4-8c. -
Performance issues with a beasty config (IMO)
JudgmentJay replied to nico53laval's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I started a new game and I still get the stuttering at Ivarstead :( Did Papyrus logging and there were 0 warnings/errors, so I can rule that out. I also tried rolling back to several different graphic drivers with no luck. Finally, I thought I might be running into bandwidth limitations, so I enabled PCI-e 3.0 via the nVidia patch. This too did nothing. I did discover that if I revert the z-fighting tweak the stuttering is greatly decreased. If I open the Skyrim launcher and set the View Distance tab values to their "High" preset values, the stuttering is gone. That said, I shouldn't have to do this. I know my PC is capable of handling this. As torminater suspected, I'm starting to think it's related to my SSDs/raid0. Maybe the SSDs lack the throughput to load so many large textures/distant LOD objects, or maybe my stripe size is too small. Or maybe Skyrim doesn't like being on the same drive as Windows. At any rate, I'm going to break the raid up, format both drives, do a fresh install of Windows on one and install Steam/games on the other. I'll be pretty sad if this doesn't work =/. -

Welp, just did the whole clean save procedure on a vanilla install, reinstalled all my mods, and the problem persists ;_; So I guess my only choice is to start over. Lesson learned I guess! -
Performance issues with a beasty config (IMO)
JudgmentJay replied to nico53laval's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Just started a new game and logged for about 15 minutes, and I had very few errors. Could the errors in my main game be the result of me trying out and deleting mods haphazardly? If so, is there any way to clean up my save files? -

Did a Papyrus log of the run down the hill. Is it normal for a ~2 minute run to have 20,000 lines of warnings/errors? A vast, vast majority of them are: [07/11/2012 - 07:44:30PM] error: Cannot call GetStageDone() on a None object, aborting function call stack: [None].monitor_polling.Update_System() - "monitor_polling.psc" Line 47 [None].monitor_polling.OnUpdate() - "monitor_polling.psc" Line 65 There are also a few of these: [07/11/2012 - 07:44:30PM] VM is frozen [07/11/2012 - 07:44:30PM] Dumping stack 13313057: [07/11/2012 - 07:44:30PM]Â Frame count: 2 (Page count: 1) [07/11/2012 - 07:44:30PM]Â State: Waiting on latent function (Freeze state: Freezing) [07/11/2012 - 07:44:30PM]Â Type: Normal [07/11/2012 - 07:44:30PM]Â Return register: False [07/11/2012 - 07:44:30PM]Â Has stack callback: No [07/11/2012 - 07:44:30PM]Â Stack trace: [07/11/2012 - 07:44:30PM]Â Â <unknown self>.utility.Wait() - "<native>" Line ? JudgmentJay replied to nico53laval's question in General Skyrim LE Support
No gamebooster, no real-time monitoring from AV, and it can't be script-related since it happened on a vanilla install as well. I'm going to try the Steam offline mode/no overlay as well as trying to disable my sound card to see if it might be the culprit. I'll try out Skyrim Performance monitor, thanks. -

Blarg. Well I don't plan on re-installing again, but I'll definitely try that next time I'm about to. Any other suggestions? I don't think it could be HDD-related as I'm using 2 Intel 520 SSDs in raid0. EDIT: Reading this thread gave me some good ideas to try. -

Performance issues with a beasty config (IMO)
JudgmentJay replied to nico53laval's question in General Skyrim LE Support
So I noticed that I get heavy stuttering around Ivarstead even if I'm nowhere near my maximum VRAM. This even happened on a vanilla install when I was only using like 1100mb of VRAM. There's absolutely no reason for this... my PC is a monster. I tried disabling vsync, increasing the maximum number of pre-rendered frames, running in single GPU mode instead of SLI, and running in windowed mode. Windowed mode seemed to help a tiny amount (not nearly enough), but everything else was worthless. As I said it was a vanilla install, so no mods/hd textures were used. Any ideas? -
