STEP:Core Flowchart

In order to collect everyone's thoughts in one place (and make sure everyone has the correct Wiki editing privileges), here's a list of all the mods in v2.2.6. Make sure you use the sectional "Edit" links or you'll surely have trouble finding the right place to edit. Doing small edits will also (hopefully) prevent a lot of edit conflicts.

On this page, Tick green.png will represent the mod being added to STEP:Core while Cross red.png represents adding the mod to STEP:Extended. For a better understanding of what STEP:Core should consist of, read these posts (and this one).

These concepts are being summarized in the NEW STEP MANDATE, so go there and edit/discuss.

  • Under Arguments, bring up any reason to go one way or the other and precede them with "{{icon}}" to generate the icon.
  • Under Votes, sign with either "{{icon|type=yes}} ~~~~" or "{{icon|type=no}} ~~~~" (four tildes creates a signature) signifying your opinion on whether the mod should be Core or not.
  • {{icon|type=yesyellow}} (Tick yellow.png) signifies an undecided or constitutional vote. Please provide in parentheses ( ... ) your conditions.

Tick green.png I am of the belief that this mod can be properly uninstalled by stopping the quest in question and it fixes a glaring hole. Additionally, we do not advise users to install/uninstall mods mid play-through no? Neovalen
Tick green.png I'd like to raise a few points. One, has anyone actually tried uninstalling the mod to see if the papyrus log does throw errors? I know the author mentions it, but I've seen other mods where the warnings seem more dire than the actual reality of the situation. I've taken a look at how this mod was made (the source files were included in the bsa), and it seems very clean. It doesn't make changes or add scripts to existing references, (it uses newly created quests & aliases to apply changes) and none of the scripts have an Update call. The sort of things that I would generally look out for in scripts added by mods don't seem to be present in this mod. Two, if this mod is creating errors on uninstall and we nix it for that reason, then we probably need to evaluate every single mod that contains scripts to make certain they don't also do this. I highly doubt that the issue is specific to this mod, and I don't want to see this mod get removed while we simultaneously decide to keep other mods that create the same issue (but whose mod authors weren't aware of or didn't feel the need to warn others about it). Three, doesn't SKSE's ClearInvalidRegistrations=1 correct just this sort of problem? Maybe the better solution is to include this fix in the guide. Kryptopyr (talk) 09:26, June 18, 2013 (MDT)

Dead Body Collision

I haven't had a chance to use this mod enough to feel comfortable voting for it, but my understanding is that the spell is included as a way to fix the potentially game-breaking problem of barricading oneself into a room or other space with no way to get around or through the bodies. If this is the case, and the spell was added to solve a potential problem with the mod, then I feel we should not be recommending the "no spell" version. (krypt)

Acquisitive Soul Gems

Tick green.png Also fixes the issue where player-filled gems didn't change in price and remained priced the same as an empty gem. I just want to point out that this mod does make a non-lore-friendly change in only permitting souls to be captured by white soul gems of correct size. This is inconsistent with the way that soul gems have worked in Oblivion and Morrowind as well as Skyrim, and therefore, I believe this was an intentional choice made by Bethesda and not an oversight. However, I personally feel that the bug fixes made by this mod are significant enough to warrant overlooking this in favor of including the mod in Core STEP.  There's a significant portion of it which is actually broken, so we list it as obsolete because the USKP only addressed what was really in need of fixing.

And even without a compatibility patch, the worst thing that happens is that the conflicting mod gets installed after EBQO and reverts the objectives back to their vanilla state. I've also had the privilege of traveling to remote areas, and while the stars are stunning, the numbers of visible stars are simply not as exaggerated as this mod would suggest. The unaided human eye is only capable of seeing about 3,000 stars at any one time even in the best possible viewing conditions. And Skyrim is far from having no light pollution...don't forget those two HUGE moons. Even if we go with the tweak that reduces the size of each moon by half, they are still many times larger than our moon. With two moons of that size, Skyrim's sky would be constantly awash with light pollution to a degree that would likely equal some of our larger cities. (kryptopyr)

This is Bethesda's official stance, due to how data, scripts especially, are permanently attached to your savegame. Tick yellow.png The only thing that keeps me from voting a solid 'yes' on this mod is the differing outfits in the Temple of the Divines. This somehow makes it seem like the least organized of the temples, when I feel it should be the most organized and cohesive. This one detail tends to make me aware of the presence of the mod and breaks immersion. Overall, though, I do really like this mod, and it was easy enough to alter it to fit my preference. Tick green.png If you are wondering, SR doesn't use this mod, mainly because other mods in it (All-In-One Face, Mature Skin, Better Males, Better Makeup, among others) overwrite it, and SR uses a high-res warpaint replacer from the same author as XCE to replace warpaints. Still, considering that AIO Face and Mature Skin require UNP or another female body replacer, and that Better Males is a body replacer, there's reason to keep this mod. Cross red.png Goes much further than vanilla and adds many more features, possibly deviating too far from vanilla. Most of the additions are optional and can be turned off or easily ignored (for example, I've never used any of the auto-looting features, horse armors, or horse inventory). The changes do improve functionality of horses in the game and are a huge improvement over the vanilla horses. Also, because all of the changes are centered on horseback riding, I don't think there is a high potential for conflict with other mods, and the changes don't really alter general gameplay. As these quests have nothing to do with the main storyline, I feel this was an oversight in development. Tick green.png The way I see it: Gildergreen Regrown is not really addressing any oversights in that quest. There's really nothing wrong with either of the two vanilla options, so the changes GR makes are nice but not necessary. Paarthurnax Dilemma, on the other hand, fixes an incredibly frustrating aspect of the vanilla main quest, where many players run head-on into this immersion-breaking decision and wonder why the game doesn't give them the option to debate the matter with the Blades. Cross red.png I wouldn't play without this mod, but I think it flies in the face of vanilla intentions. Bethesda chose to address this issue with the "Legendary" skill reset. Cross red.png The only quest that has a non-vanilla option to resolve it is Boethiah's Calling. The problem I ran into here was that in certain situations it's possible for Boethiah to appear and actually assign you the quest. While it makes sense to be able to just say 'no' and walk away from a regular person, when a Daedric prince tells you to do something, I felt that there really needed to be a consequence for saying no or else adding the refusal choice just wasn't realistic. Despite what the description says, it's very unlikely that I'll add further options to other quests.
