Question

Hi

I'm trying to get a overview of compatibility between packs but after searching the forums and reading some packs description I still miss some info. Please help me with more compatibility info.

I can understand the need for such an overview, but at the moment there are only a few packs that are ready for use. I won't comment on other author's packs, but from that list there are 3 packs of mine which I never finished or discontinued. Those are VEGA, VEGA Extended and WALL. Would not recommend using any of them, there are better alternatives.

Also installing as many packs as possible doesnt mean your game will actually improve. Note that Skyrim Revisited isn't really pack. It is a, now obsolete, complete guide to modding skyrim but it has been replaced by SRLE.

Moreover, inside a pack there is often a section where the author has written down compatibility with other mods or packs.

ok thanks for the pack info. I only included packs from the packs link but I there is more packs out there that is not linked to these place.

But even if some packs is discontinued there is a lot of valuable information there that can be used with a little care so I hope they stay as resources.

Personally I'm not interested in all packs but some of them seem very interesting.

Pack:Companions = ESF - The Companions Guild

Pack:Explorers Guide

Pack:Immersive Survival or Pack:Survival

Pack:War Ensemble

Pack:Weather and Lighting

Any idea if this can work together with Core and extended?

Great idea but i feel it is a bit too "early" yet :)

For me especially because i just finished a first complete playable STEP install, but more general because STEP's aim with the packs isn't yet completely finished.

Although working on this already is good, so it can be up as soon as we get STEP 2.3

While on this topic, I think it would be better to deprecate the idea of "compatible packs." Instead, we should do "incompatible mods." This would be database driven so that Pack authors wouldn't need to maintain it.

+1!

All packs are designed to work with STEP Core and Extended that was the point of making them.

::):

1. All packs are designed to work with Core.

2. Extended is a pack itself.

3. What about compatibility between packs?

(4. Needed modifications to make packs/mods compatible may be maintained with such a list too, but may be too much)

If someone want to do this, don't stop them :)

Well, compatibility between packs is currently dependent on the pack author(s), unless anyone else wishes to provide a potential patch (when necessary) or instructions. Would be great :D

My idea is if we solve incompatibilities between mods instead of between packs, we'll get a lot farther ahead, as those fixes could be applied across all packs that used those two mods.

Compatibility between packs is dealt with in the pack pages, where there is compatibility it is often brought up particularly in the case of STEP (both versions) and SR:LE, REGS and Requiem also refer to each other. Survival and Weather & Lighting packs have built in compatibility with STEP and Requiem and also are fully compatible with REGS.

With the exception of Morrowloot which is chiefly compatible with STEP and REGS but is not compatible with SR:LE (though it's modularity means parts of it are compatible) or Requiem which does many of the same sorts of things but differently and would therefore be hugely conflicting packs. These are the main updated packs AFAIA. So given that any compatibility is dependent on the pack author's vision (if you can call it that), there is already quite a lot of what you are asking about.

Not to mention that as STEP moves towards 2.3 there will be more an more work on streamlining the packs so that this issue becomes even clearer at the point at which STEP Extended separates from CORE and officially becomes a pack. Which oddly enough all the packs mentioned above (not counting SR:LE of course) are compatible with and should say so on the pages.

Any idea about War ensemble ? I know Requiem and (I suppose) Extended are compatible with it but it's hard to say about the others : weather, survival, MMO... REGS compatibility is probably not needed as the goals of both packs are somewhat divergent (exploring beyond Skyrim and delving into Skyrim respectively).

War ensemble has two parts, the second Reign in blood contains mods from STEP Extended. The first 'Die by the Sword' has some additions to the game that mostly wont cause many problems with other packs. Weather and Survival packs are completely compatible with it as they touch different things. MMO and REGS will also be compatible though 1st 2 mods from the first pack might be problematic I'm sure that it would easily be solvable. This pack mainly adds CWO, the only mod likely to cause any problems is Civil War Repairs and that only with REGS as the others do not touch The cities in any way.
