STEP extended, when to install Falskaar and Wyrmstooth?

Question

Posted

Just wondering when I should install these mods if I'm using the STEP Extended guide?

My plan was just to install STEP Extended then other mods I want after that (Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, CoT, ELFX and an ENB).

However I was looking at https://wiki.step-project.com/Pack:Weather_and_Lighting and in there it says "Either install this in it's own section after Conflicting Graphics or place them in Landscape and Environment".

So now my plan is follow the STEP extended guide, and install the weather pack stuff after conflicting graphics, just wondering whether I should do the same with Falskaar, and if so where to put it? I would guess it would be after the official bethesda DLC's? Not sure though, and don't wanna break something so figured I should check here first.

Also, should I still use the STEP extended patch? I'll have all the STEP extended mods + Beth DLC's, but also some extra ones as well, and some of the installs of STEP mods will be different from the guide due to selecting compatibilty options relating to CoT and Falskaar etc.

Fact of the matter is there are thousands of mods out there. What makes these few mods any more special than the others to need to call them out? Basically we would need to call them all out or none to be fair. A generalized statement might be okay, but it's "best practice" to follow Z's advice and install STEP first to ensure it's running smoothly. However, if you know you're going to be installing other mods later, you can grab them now to ensure you have all the patches you need instead of fumbling through the Guide to try to determine what has a patch and what doesn't. It's just an option.

The beauty of Mod Organizer is that you can install STEP as we direct in the guide and later insert mods anywhere in the 'install' priority in the left pane to test/debug.

Why on Earth would we mention how/where/when to install mods that are not included in STEP? That only adds confusion and complicates an otherwise relatively simple process.

"Why on Earth"?  I just quoted one at the top of this page.  If you really have to ask that question then you're not getting that everyone doesn't have the skills or experience yet that you do modding this game.  That is just elitist, and if ... never mind, I'm done with it....

What Z was trying to say is, that everything in the Guide is related to STEP, our mission, and our mandates. Mods that are not covered in the Guide have no relation to STEP and, thus, such edits or additions make no sense to add to the main Guide. Those type of changes are for Packs rather than putting them in the main STEP Guide. The Pack would cover everything you're wanting.

Yes, "why on Earth" encompasses "why would we" and beyond ... meaning that there is absolutely no reason at all to include mention of mods in the STEP guide that are not included in STEP. It is the "STEP" guide, right? A pack author could provide instructions on installing outlier mods with STEP, so that is where it needs to go. We leave that to the community to undertake if anyone so chooses.

Your reasoning on adding mention of outlier mods in the STEP guide is beyond our purview, so it is not a valid use case for STEP. Sorry, but it is what it is. ... you do not need to be an 'elite' modder to install STEP, because we lay it out for anyone with basic computer skills to install successfully; however, I could argue that it might be helpful to be an 'elite' modder in order to successfully get Falskaar and Wyrmstooth working correctly within ANY modded setup.

Our guide(s) allows anyone without modding skill to install STEP ... that's the whole point ;)
