Grass LOD in the same image, the grass is dark and light.

Question

Posted

Hi, I have a problem with my grass changing from dark to light in the same image for some reason (i.e. under the same conditions).

As
far as I understand, this can be fixed by setting ComplexGrassBillboard to 5 and ComplexGrassBacklightMask to N. But it only helps a little.

Let's look at it together, I use these xTexGen settings and TexGen remain unchanged for two generations:
TexGen screenshot: https://ibb.co/27dmPFYZ
DynDOLOD screenshot: https://ibb.co/VYTLHTMt
TexGen_SSE.ini: https://pastebin.com/i3baniMR
DynDOLOD_SSE.ini: https://pastebin.com/UJCyEFMt

So, I run texgen and dyndolod for the first time with the settings listed above and get this result: https://ibb.co/jkz1bPKt

The second generation is started only by dyndolod after making changes to its ini file: https://ibb.co/PZxyHBkY
It has been changed:

  • ComplexGrassBillboard 4 to 5
  • ComplexGrassBacklightMask 0 to 100

So are there any ways to remove the strange shadow from the left side of the grass? To achieve the matching of the left and right parts of the tundra near Whiterun.
In general, my grass matches the colors, but not on the left side: https://ibb.co/n8krdLkJ

I use:

  • Community shaders,
  • grass lighting and all other plugins without exceptions.
  • Freak's Floral Fields.
  • NAT 3 CS,
  • NGIO
  • The created grass cache.

Try TexGen Ambient = 100+ for HD grass and ComplexGrassBacklightMask to a value more like 25. The left side remaining darker could be due to sun position, since you are using Sky Sync in CS. We don't know the ToD for your screenshot.

Read https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum#Post-Logs which TexGen and DynDOLOD debug logs to also upload when making posts.

https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum#Copy-and-Paste-Text
Do not post screenshots of the tools, unless it is about visual issues with the user interface ... The debug log - as explained below - typically contains the selected settings and options already.

Changing overall brightness of billboards in TexGen or via the DynDOLOD ini settings is not going to change that different viewing angles at the same time of day seem to have different brightness.

Test without post processing / CS.

You might benefit from the DynDOLOD_flat_4x2alt2_lod.nif I uploaded in this post https://stepmodifications.org/forum/topic/19903-dyndolod-300-alpha-198/page/720/#findComment-288655

If there is no change, also upload a LOD level 4 BTO, like Tamriel.4.-4.-4.bto for example.

Yes, my mistake, here are the actual logs with those that I posted above (I made a copy just in case): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1nGTCkxHWCpn1C7IYpJ2EJeZXH31ZpwF7?usp=sharing

I don't have PP, and does it make sense to test without CS if I select a picture for it?

I replaced DynDOLOD_flat_4x2alt2_lod.nif and I don't know for what reason, but it worked! https://ibb.co/W4gyL29K
But in the end, I didn't understand what the problem was... I've been tinkering with the lodes for the whole day and my head hurts.

I want to understand if I made a mistake somewhere or if there is some mistake/problem on the side? What did the file replacement do?

Anyway, thank you very much!
z929669 thanks too, I'm actively studying your posts here and on nexusmods, thanks for helping the community!

You use CS/post processing effects/settings that seem to be different how the lighting works. This version of the NIF uses different normal vectors directions.
