Horizontal lines on character models and a grid like pattern on world textures

Question

Posted

Hello! I successfully finished STEP Guide 2.3 this afternoon. The results are impressive and I'm very glad to have come across this guide for assistance in my first Skyrim modding expedition.

There is one visual aspect I have to ask about. On the character models I've noticed consistently spaced, horizontal lines that shift around the model as they move and talk. The best visual effect I can compare it to is scan lines on an older TV lol. I first noticed this in the character builder screen and NPCs had the same issue upon loading in. The glitch is limited to the skin of the model and stops when clothing or armor begins. Walking around I have noticed this same glitch to be appearing on the basic white candles (wax part specifically) that sit on many tables as well as around the edges of windows within interiors.

This has been observed over the first 30 minutes of walking around the map to spot check my work. Everything visually, aside from this, seems to be working as expected.

I'm running the Heavy ENB at 4K resolution and followed the guide accordingly for these factors. Thank you in advance for any and all assistance.

What you are seeing is an artifact of having a true 4k setup. Does the issue go away when you disable ENB (Shift+F12)? If memory serves, I had this issue with snowy grasses and resolved by making the following changes under [ENVIRONMENT] in enbseries.ini:

  • SamplingQuality=0
  • UseComplexAmbientOcclusion=true
  • EnableComplexFilter=true

Let us know what you find.

Bang on my friend, thank you. Would there be any reason to regenerate LOD in this instance or am I good to go?

ENB is graphical post-processing, so it has no impact on the mod build or LOD other than performance. If you have a 4k setup, chances are you have a fairly powerful PC that can handle it.
