Question

Hi guys. I have a feeling you've lost some of yesterday's posts and threads while moving servers...

Just a suggestion for the future - if you plan something like this, please let your users know prior (I'm sure you have "global PM" option in ACP) - just out of courtesy and also to keep people informed what's going on. No harsh feelings, just a friendly suggestion :)

Good point, roots. We had planned on this happening during the "bandwidth blackout", but it unfortunately took longer than it should have. We should have definitely taken down the site from the old host to prevent this.

However, we only lost a handful of posts, and there may be a way to get them back.

They did. There was a big warning about bandwidth about to be exceeded and a planned move to a new server. This was also followed be advice to use the nexus for posts until the move was completed. Updates presented on the nexus page. posts have gone missing it would seem - but if they were important or similar I'm sure the posts can be made again.

Oh? Apologies, I have not seen the announcement. For this very reason I just think that global PM would be maybe better? Not everyone reads whole forums. I am not trying to "tell off" anyone, just a helpful suggestion :)

I agree, we probably should have found a way to put up a bigger notice. I also made the mistake of thinking we were done when the old host refreshed our bandwidth limit for the month. Hopefully it doesn't have to happen again any time soon but if it does, now we know :P

Oh well, a man learns all his life, as we say in Poland :)

I was only speaking from experience. We lost lots of posts (now try to say that 5 times very fast :D ) when we move our forums to another server... I know the pain :)

Remember that email list you talked about doing for releases a while back? It would be good for notices like that as well.
