Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I get the feeling that getting into modding is like falling to the dark side.

You just think you'll get the unofficial patches and maybe some texture mods... but it is but a slippery slope towards broken saves, countless man-hours tweaking files and conflict resolutions and delving into the most depraved corners of the internet to achieve ultimate power over a game you have not actually enjoyed for months.

Or is this just me? :P

I started watching Gopher's Stiv Let play then his how to mod skyrim series gave it a go then that was it I had fallen to the darkside.

I have only ever completed skyrim to the end (that is to the alduin fight) once and the was on my Xbox 360. As my Girlfriend (soon to be wife) once said you dont really like to play skyrim or fallout new vegas anymore just like to mod it... so true she was right. and i am sure once I have completed fallout 4 a few times the same will be said of that.

I actually currently have 4 Different versions of MO installed (and I don't means profiles i do actually mean 4 seperate installions of MO) 1 for SRLE Base 1 for Steps, 1 for testing addional Mods on top of SRLE and 1 for Fallout New Vegas.

My boyfriend has made the same observation :P

I suppose it's simply down to how rapidly evolving and prolific the Skyrim modding community is. With constant updates and fixes going on, not to mention interesting new mods, the temptation to keep improving the game can overwhelm savefiles which really should remain fixed and stable.

I was originally just waiting for Frostfall but, fortuitously, the USLEEP, COT5 and CACO drops have meant that I may just finally have a game I am glad to leave as-is for the sake of a single character.

Doesn't mean I still won't also have an experimental load-out but it does mean that I may finally be able to enjoy the benefits of all this work for more than a week or so at a time.

I'm willing to wait a bit more to see how Last Seed will turn out. I believe iNeed won't be getting further major updates.

Then I can start a new game and stick to it. ::):

If SRLE : Explorer's Edition is in a more mature stage by then, I will be using it as well in my first playthrough of Skyrim.

Meanwhile, I will just be testing the flow of the game no further then Whiterun.

haha! my husband got skyrim with our xbox 360 three years ago for x-mas. I watched him play for a few months and then couldn't stand it anymore. for the next month I played more hours than I have played to-date. but I was frustrated about things that I wanted to change so I started looking into it and found out about modding. funny how it started out as "if I could only do A, B, and C then I would be happy." haven't really played the game since.... we even got me a new 'puter just so I could mod (well, my husband says it was so I could actually play the game, but I disagree) ::D:

In the left pane of MO, I have my mods in this order: Unmanaged Dawnguard, Unmanaged Hearthfire, Unmanages Dragonborn, Cleaned Master Files, USLEEP, Unmanaged Hi Res Packs, UHRP, and SKSE. Do you see anything wrong with this install order? Its what makes sense to me. How comes if I highlight UHRP it overwrites everything except the Cleaned Master Files Mod. Is this correct?

That's right. Since the "Cleaned Master Files" mod only contains the cleaned ESMs, which don't exist in the UHRP, nothing can be shown as overwriting anything else.

If you examine the "Data" tab in MO you will see which mod is provided what files for the game.

As an example open the "Data" tab and navigate to:

textures\_byoh\clutter\resources\

and have a look at the last few listings. Notice "stonequarry01.dds" is being provided by the UHRP and the others are from the HiRes packs.

Hovering you mouse over that listing will also show which mods are also providing that file, but losing the conflict.

I have just installed windows 10 on my computer and found out it doesn't support JAVA because of Microsoft edge. What is my best option.

...Install it anyway!

You're good to go, bro. I've been using Windows 10 since release, just download Java manually from their website.  ::D:

I had problems running the .jar from the ENB Changer using Win 10, nothing happened when I tried to run it. JAVA was installed of course, but I took the 32bit version, just to make sure. Perhaps that were problems with Administrator-rights. I solved that using 'SUM launcher' from Nexus (editing the .cmd of course).

Neovalen, maybe you can add a note to that part in your guide. Took me hours to figure that out. Although more experienced user might be aware of that.

Is your binary for SUM the following: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_65\bin\javaw.exe ?

I guess you got me wrong. I had no problems running SUM from MO. But I had problems running the ENB Manager and Changer, which should not be run from MO. I found the SUM launcher on nexus, made to launch SkyProcs. It actually launches an admin cmd, if I got that right. And I edited the .cmd file of SUM launcher to run the ENB Changer and Manager.
