yes,  hopefully this weekend.  I want to at least put a few hours in and around whiterun to see if the constant CTD came back with ICAI-overhaul.

Posted (edited)

I've gotten several more hours into my new Skyrim build, and I've only run into a few CTD's and other bugs

Minor bugs

  • a group of Vigilents of stendar, while they had armor, had no weapons.  Probably a leveled list I screwed up somewhere

(Maybe?) big bugs?

  • I've had several HUGE papyrus logs.  we are talking 200+ Megs, and one (after a 3 hr session) was 1.7GB!  Never seen a papyrus log that big before.  Previously, papyrus logs were around 10-50 KB, maybe 100KB on a large log.  Needless to say, at this size, the logs are essentially useless. If I want anything out of them, I would have to write my own program to parse out the log.  Which isn't a bad idea really, something like LOOT but for papyrus logs.

So far, no continuous crashing around Whiterun yet, My character has explored a fair bit, and will spend the next few days in and around Whiterun to see if the CTDs come back.  I'll include my notes so far below (better organization than the previous post I hope).

0.7 NOTES

New Stuff

  • Immersive Citizens AI Overhaul
    • Adding this back in.  Hopefully with all the compatibility patching and other game updates, things will be stable "enough"
  • BethINI
    • ini file cleaning and optimization.
  • Dropped: Birds and flocks
    • been reading that this mod makes unnecessary changes to a variety of meshes and areas around Skyrim, and I felt it was just not worth all the potential conflicts it may cause.  I didn't think it would be missed all that much (ie no more birds flying into and out of hills and stuff).  Fewer birds, but with DynDOLOD desyncing bird flapping, I think we have enough birds as is.
  • New Patches.  These are as ever "not necessarily complete" :)  I have combed through most stuff, but I have probably missed a few things.  If someone else could look at my changes and give feedback, that would be awesome.

Mods with notable changes

  • DynDOLOD: completely new installation process.
  • Ruffled Feather Download has been moved.  Now located in the Skyrim STEP nexus page.
  • Death Alternative now is disabled by default, and must be turned on in order to function.
  • NARC installation instructions updated a little.
  • Vividian has some install instructions that relate to new DynDOLOD functionality.
  • Explosive Bolts Visualized: the requiem patch has been updated, so using the included path, not the one from Requiem patch central anymore.
    • the Requiem version is a replacer, so you must modify the STEP Extended Patch.esp dependency using TES5Edit.
  • STEP Compilation Installer: note related to reinstalling after making the Explosive Bolts Visualized change. (need to restore the orriginal esp, or the installer refuses to work)

DynDOLOD Notes:

Please watch the video. I've summarized the steps, but the video is very well done.

    • First 2 min is a demo of the mod.  Navigation starts at 2 min.
    • I advise to watch the whole video.  Lots of information.
  • Mods to note (mod specific Installation)
    • Falskaar
      • Can safely ignore error messages about missing IDs

      • Archive the textures folder (named DynDoLOD Textures)
      • Delete textures folder

NARC

  • Install NARC Main file (not the other just yet)
    • Check Convenient Horses
  • Run installer 2nd time, Select Falskaar Main file this time

  • Run Installer 3rd time, select Requiem main file
    • No patches
  • Next, you need to make your own merged plugin.

      • NARC-Falskaar.esp
      • NARC-Requiem.esp
      • Falskaar.esm
      • Requiem.esp
    • Basically you need to make sure all changes count.   (a lot less work this time around)
      • Click the + symbol on the CARC plugin you loaded.  Then click the + symbol under the Factions and NPC Header
      • Check for any Discolored lines indicating there is a conflict or overwrite (yellow or red background)
      • Select Item, in the right pannel, drag and drop those record changes (forwarding) in Red Into the Right most NARC Patch (which is NARC-Requiem.esp for me)
      • Repeat for each item.
      • Exit TES5Edit and save.
      • Done.  NARC is patched.

Vividian Install Notes

Please do not use the High quality option (Under performance Options).  Combined with the High quality STEP Compilation install, it brought my 1070 to its knees with 25-30 FPS, with studding and lag.   There are just too many script heavy mods installed for this.

  • Troublemaker mods that should not be installed:
    • DynDoLOD Window Light LOD (please don't use this option)
    • ELFX - Weathers.esp (hide this in the ELFX mod)
  • Ini changes

        • NOTE: my 1070 was unable to handle High quality option. I had to revert to normal, and down grade to the Normal STEP Compilation (from the High quality version).  Now I get 50-60 FPS (as oposed to 25-30). I'm also using a 2560 x 1600 display.  You will get much better results with a lower resolution.

  • IMPORTANT: After you finished this Install, you will need to navigate to your Skyrim Data folder OR if you use Mod Organizer to your Mod Organizer/mods/Vividian ENB - Weather and Lighting Enhancement/ folder. Inside you will find a folder called "Vividian ENB Install Files". Copy the content of this folder into your Skyrim Main Directory where your TESV.exe and skyrimlauncher.exe is. Please delete any leftovers of other enb's before doing so! (enbseries folder, .fx files, ...)

Explosive Bolts Visualized

Make note: Requiem explosive bolts, replacer.

  • Basically using the Requiem replacer.  After installing the requiem patch, you go and start up TES5Edit.  Check only STEP Extended Patch.esp
  • Once loaded, click the + beside STEP Extended Patch.esp
  • Click on File Header.
  • Find ExplosiveBoltsVisualized.esp
  • Right click Edit
  • Change this to "Requiem - Explosive Bolts Visualized.esp"
    • Must type this perfectly.  Did not test what happens if you mix this up, but you will not be able to load this esp (because of missing masters).  So if you make a mistake, then you need to re install the STEP Extended Patch.
  • Save and exit.

Real Shelter

Real shelter is the "real" last mod to install.  Once you have DynDOLOD and Requiem patched, you can run the game, see if its stable.  Then after everything, then you install real shelter. its actually quite easy.

  • Install mod
  • Run patch
  • Enjoy hiding under shelter when its raining, and not getting wet.

Load order and Patches

Here is a link to the load order, and my patches.  As always with patches, these are VERY load order specific, so if you change things, you may need to make your own custom patches.  I've split stuff up as much as possible to make re-patching easier.

Added a pile of screenshots, to get a reference to what the lighting looks like.  I also have a foler of Lantern On/Off comparisons, so you get an idea of what "darkness" really is, but also how the lantern helps deal with it.  I had the lantern turned up one tick, to get a little more light.

I personally like the light from the lanterns compared to the mage light because of the nice warm glow from the lantern, compared to the cold blue light from the mage light.  Its really personal preference since you can get a ring of magelight which gives you the same effect as a lantern but in colder blue.  Play with each, and see which you like better.

Note:  the night time pictures I show are from a clear night with both moons out.  If its a cloudy night, or both moons are dark, then the landscape is VERY dark.  Whether you go out at night to collect resources is dictated by the moon and weather.  Dark can make your screen black, and the lantern only lights up a short area around you.  I've had times where I give up trying to travel and just make camp where I am, only to find I'm 1 min away from an inn in the morning.   When there is a storm, well, its worse.

I've put about 15 hours into the new build.  So far, I've had only a few CTD, and a few strange CTD when loading a save. Yet when I try a second time to load the same save, there are no problems.  I can say I've tested frost fall, it works so far, and Death Alternative has only bugged out on me once and worked otherwise exactly as its supposed to.  I'd have to say that the overall stability has increased and that can be squarely attributed to all the amassing modders out on the Nexus who have put many hours into their awesome mods.

I would like to have at least one other person install this pack and let me know it also worked for them (with all the latest mod updates) before I go and update the whole PACK page.   I think the only one I left old was Skyrim Flora Overhaul, left that at the version the STEP Pack said (there were too many options that my eyes glazed over, so I didn't bother with the new stuff lol).

I am curious to know what people get for frame rate, as I know its quite the CPU/GPU heavy setup.  I can say that after turning papyrus logging off, I am now getting a solid 60 FPS almost everywhere, with the occasional dip to 50.

Posted

Mr_Moal,

What FPS do you get, if you start the game owning a house in the Markarth - when just exiting it and looking down to the right? For me it's as bad as 15 FPS with GTX970m and normal ENB at 1080p and I could swear in the past a year ago when I played SRLE similar setup it used to be at least 30 FPS on the same hardware... Just keeps me wondering w t h is going on with my notebook :(

P.S. Gonna try a year old NVidia drivers cause everything else is pretty much the same except for ENB version... But that place even without ENB the FPS is like 30-35 (Ultra, no AA or AF)...

Posted

Tbh, Open Cities is just an overkill for already mod heavy setup like this one. It potentially will create lots of problem without making that much of gameplay difference in my opinion...

* Footprints is script heavy...

* BFSEffects.esp - also script heavy and buggy as I heard. Doesn't bring anything important to the game in my opinion...

* mintylightningmod.esp - it's fun but again script heavy and a bit unrealistic...

* Traps Make Noise.esp I think (but may be wrong) that Requiem already does the same thing... Correct me if I am wrong.

* ESFCompanions.esp should be positioned after Requiem.esp followed by the compatibility patch.

* Complete Crafting_TrueWeaponsLvlLists.esp I don't think it's needed... the reqtificator will throw away changes to the leveled lists, afaik...

* Dead Body Collision.esp - died too many times because of collisions *shrugs* but up to a personal taste...

* Bring Out Your Dead - Legendary Edition.esp - never understood why people would want this stuff honestly...

* Immersive Patrols II.esp - I think this one makes game a bit too easy with all the dead bodies on the roads with lots of loot... Might need to use Scarcity to leverage it... Didn't decide to myself yet if I want it with Requiem in my next playthrough....

* HarvestOverhaul.esp - I believe Requiem does the same... unless you're using some optional version with less loot from plants? Would make sense as Requiem one seems waaaaay too easy to level alchemy and make tons of gold without effort.

* Vividian - Red light Fix.esp - are you sure this is needed?

One another thing that I don't understand why people like ELFX+ELE? I mean sure dark is fun and creepy but it's so stupid that a light source with 3 candles does not lit up a bookshelf which is like 4 or 5 feet away...

I installed everything according to the guides, my mod order and load order is (nearly) exactly as what you have uploaded to OneDrive, everything should be working fine...

But when I click "New Game" it is just a black screen with some purple rectangles on the sides. I think I messed up badly but don't really know what.

This pack is 2 or so months old, and does not contain anything to do with the most recent Skyrim Enhanced edition. Are you using the Enhanced edition?

It should also be noted, since the pack was first created, many mods underwent several major overhauls. On the pack page, second line, there is beta 0.7. Please use the Dropbox files, (i lost my passwords to the one note account, so there is nothing I can do with that).

This will give you instructions for several updates, such as the DynDoLOD, and others.

If a mod has undergone a major update over the last month or 2, then yes this pack would be out of date and no longer work. In that case, you will need to at least read the nexus page for the Requiem patches https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/61621/?

This is the back bone of the requiem compatibility, and often dictates if I can use a mod or not.

Please try to disable the ENB. If that cause the visuals to work, (even if the lighting is screwed up) then at least we know it's a graphics problem. Purple textures typically means a texture problem, first thing I check would be Mod Organizer and if the assets have loaded.

I have run my current build for several months, and I have had occasional CTD's. Sometimes none, othertimes 2-3 in a gaming session. It takes a full weekend (maybe 20 hours) to go through all mods, check for updates, find out what dependencies have possibly change (takes a long time to scan through every mod nexus page), and find solutions for bugs. Work (fortunately I guess) has been busy enough to keep me occupied. I'll look things over in a week or two, when I get a chance.

It's also worth noting that it took me 3-4 tries with installing STEP Extended 2.2.9.2. Skyrim modding is fickle, and strange things will cause problems.

The spinning logo mod helps you know if skyrim loaded (if it doesn't spin, you got a problem right off the bat)

If TES5Edit don't load, that's usually a very easy one to fix.

If the game loads funny, start considering graphics. Drop back to the STEP Extended install, (moving ENB files into a temp folder on your desktop) and see if problem persists.

Double check all assets are checked in data. I've had those mesteriously uncheck, which leads to various bad things happening.

That you load a new game to a dark screen (i have had this myself many times) really makes me want to double check the graphics.

And do yourself a favor and put your brightness slider to the middle. Otherwise stuff is just too dark.

Unfortunately, I don't believe I'll be able to fix this problem. 'Twas a valiant effort, but a futile one I guess. I think I'll switch to SRLE: Legacy of The Dragonborn Reqtified

I also think you should put a warning at the top of the patch such as "This mod pack isn't up to date."

I've done some housekeeping on the Mod Pack page.   Basically moving the v0.7 changes into the main page.  I've looked up a few of the critical mods, and they have not received any updates in the past 2 months.

When downloading a file, if the version date is before September 2016, there are no worries, and install like the instructions say.

If the file was uploaded to the Nexus more recently, if its just a minor update (ie to upgrade you just swap out the old files for the new) chances are is nothing to worry about.  If you are concerned, just download a file dated September or earlier.

Obviously, if the file is updated for Skyrim Special Edition, you don't want it, and you will need to grab an earlier version.
