ENB Recommendations and Framerate Suggestions
Aiyen replied to phazer11's question in Post-Processing Support
Yup, Jawz left all his work in the hands of Novak with permission to release it all as one package. -
And I think this debate is going a bit too far off topic! Silly as it might be then it is his choice!

ENB Recommendations and Framerate Suggestions
Aiyen replied to phazer11's question in Post-Processing Support
Relighting Skyrim made so that the lights have the same color as in ELFX, that way the transition seems less obvious. But I am strange that way, I mix and match all my lighting mods so I get what I really like. You can just use the DB module from relighting skyrim by itself. -
I could do mostly 1k with a 768Mb Gtx 260...but that was mainly only the larger overhaul packages, not all the smaller fine detail ones. Experiment away with textures, you do not mess up your saves, and they are easy to replace when using MO.

Clarified the post so there is (Hopefully) no misunderstanding! :)

Okay took a large amount of screenshot taking but these show the difference in textures fairly well. I have used my own ENB, and ELFX for the colors of the flames, hence I have NOT loaded in the mods .esp. This is strictly a comparison of the textures! Of course a full detailed movie etc. would be the best with the same lighting conditions etc. affecting both. However for now this is my contribution! The first(Left) is Cinematic Fire HD, the latter(Right) Ultimate fire HD (Medium resolution version hence, 1k most of the time). They both have their charm that much is certain, but I still prefer ultimate HD since it just seems to have a better transparency mapping, allowing the egdes to blend in with the surroundings more. The thing I like about Cinematic is that it have a "colder" look and the center is not as bright allowing for a bit more detail near the embers.Â

Fire is just one of the most annoying things to make look right! I am currently revising my ENB preset... and this is mainly making sure fire looks like I want, then the rest normally follow. But everything affects fire (Rather much). Contrast, brightness, imagespace modifer, time of day, etc. Even with just vanilla color correction then fire can look different depending on where in the game world you are etc. One have to be really careful about how to compare fires! But going to try out this version and then see how it looks!

That would be much appreciated! Secretly I also hope that there would be a "darker" version of your waves.. but I might just do that myself for my own setup. Also going to try to just make a 1k version of your 4k version myself and see what happens. The worst that can happen is that I get a lot of pink mountains!

The newest versions of ENB come with its own Vsync now, it will overwrite the built in Skyrim one, so you need to make sure it is set to true in the enb ini file or you will get tearing. This is for version 186+ of ENB.

GPU overloading although barely half VRAM is used
Aiyen replied to Archy333's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Rootsrat: Look at the attached picture, has all the info! :P And yeah for laptops this is sadly normal behavior. Even laptops that say they are designed for gaming are essentially lying. They are only designed for gaming from a specification standpoint, not so much else. I always recommend that if you only have a laptop and you want to use it for gaming, then also get a cooling pad to place it on while you play. They are not super expensive, and they solve most of the issues. This also allows you to keep using the laptop for school/job whatever if you for some reason have no interest in a stationary rig. -
All experience so far shows that 1k is the way to go for all exterior stuff like rocks and plants etc. when you reach the end. This allows you to run skin, armor weapons etc. at 2k. If you do not want to do that but prefer prettier trees etc, you can ofc. use 1k versions of those and increase the others. It is a matter of personal preference. In general the higher the resolution of a texture, the sharper it will look even up close. Depending on the size of the mesh the texture is applied too.
-
Might be a rather large demand that the words do not show up in sentience Will! :p
-
Well aside from the sad fact that I cannot/do not want to, use that high resolutions for something as mundane as a rock, then they do look very nice! As you say then 1k might just not make enough of an impact, but sadly that is the limit for exterior stuff like rocks and trees! At least for me! Other then that then it is always a pleasure to see more or your work! Keep it up!

If you already did the process once then there is no point in doing it again, since the textures would be the same. Since there are properly more new texture mods then in 1.8 then you might need to do it for some of the new additions though.

ENB Recommendations and Framerate Suggestions
Aiyen replied to phazer11's question in Post-Processing Support
Will properly let a few more people test it out, and then try to send it to the author of SOS so he can put it up along with the RLO patch... seems the most decent thing to do. However if Neo is going to do all sorts of magic then I will await his works, since it is most likely superior. Since what I have done is for a complete install of ELFX with Enhancer, not just the basic version. As for doing it then it is really simple... just REALLY time consuming. You need to make a new patch esp by creating an override from the ELFX enhancer version (if you use that otherwise just the normal .esp) Then from EVERY single cell you copy over the conflicting sounds entry. And yes.. this needs to be done for EVERY single cell that ELFX touches... and let me just tell you there are silly SILLY many! :) But other then the odd water level entry as well then that is all there is too it. Edit: Also the adaptation bug most likely have been there all along, I have never tested the Dawnguard DLC areas so might even have been there with the old version as well. But regardless it was easy to fix. -
The Far horizon is a game engine limitation. You cannot alter it directly sadly, even with an ENB. However ENB´s can alter it to some extent by altering the color of what is above it. But in general it is always going to be there. As for white mountains. Then it sounds like you have some fog values set to high, or it is just a specific weather or location that have settings that does it. In any case then it is due to fog which is meant to obscure things in the far distance by blending it all into a greyish color.

Okay now since this thread is starting to annoy me a little bit! :) You cannot have two different resolutions on one monitor at any given time. This is a monitor limit. There might be a program out there somewhere that allows you to setup a profile that automatically alter the resolution depending on which application you have running as the active one. However I doubt that any skyrim mod will be able to do this, since such a feature would require driver level access. So perhaps you need to go ask on the Nvidia or ATI forum for such a thing. It sounds more like their cup of tea. Hope that helps!

Skyrim fails to load a save that uses > 2GB RAM
Aiyen replied to Nyven's question in General Skyrim LE Support
There are numerous threads and posts about the 3Gb limit of the application by now. To sum them all up. Skyrim is a 32bit game and with the LAA update it can now access at the most roughly 4Gb of RAM. However since it is also a DX9 title then most textures are mirrored to some extent in the RAM as well, which puts an effective upper limit to what you can have enabled at any one point. You might be able to load one set of cells without issue, but once you start traveling then the game just does not clean up well enough after itself for you to run with a large number of memory intensive mods (Texture mods). So you have to make your mod build so that everything including textures etc etc. can all fit inside a roughly 4Gb space. If you get infinite loading screens then it is because not all assets can be accessed and hence the game just hangs waiting for resources that never come. This is most often due to way too high LOD settings, reduce drawing distances, and or any Z fighting tweaks solves most. But reducing texture sizes is the best solution. Only use 2k textures in exteriors for stuff you really want to look pretty... I personally think armor and skin etc is more vital then rocks and trees, but we are all different in that regard. -
Hehe yeah I cant blame ya for picking a name that provides better marketing! ;) Your profile is pure SweetFX. So if you get better performance in yours then it is simply because you have not cranked up the computationally heavy settings as much as the next one. And again it makes no sense to compare to ENB since ENB does different things. At least you do not claim that it makes real HDR which is impossible for Skyrim since it can only do LDR on a game engine level. But I like the "HDR" option in SweetFX as well, I like how it subtlety saturates where required. That being said I understand what you are trying to do, and it is nice. Would not mind more SweetFX profiles to pop up! As long as they do not market themselves as being able to do the same as ENB at lower performance cost, which is just a misunderstanding of what happens at best, a lie at worst. I am especially intrigued by your gaussian blur, will have to look more at that when I get the time! I also use SweetFX in other games since it does provide a nice way to boost the contrast and saturation up to a level I like, and the performance hit is minimal. Keep up the good work! ENB is mostly GPU heavy, not CPU heavy. The lighting and shadows etc are done by CPU, however AO is as far as I know processed by the GPU as well since it is effectively a texture that is placed on top of the scene. But other then that then yeah you could properly get a bit more stability out of it by reducing stuff. I am unsure about how much of SweetFX is actually done by the CPU since I am not that much into the technical details of the shaders yet. Would properly be a bit tricky since SweetFX does not add an option to go in and alter specific lighting values like ENB does. The strength in ENB is that it takes the values directly from the game and alters them. SweetFX only reads the output and then changes the entire scene at once. It can effectively only see the color values in the final rendered image after adaptation, bloom etc etc.Â

ENB Recommendations and Framerate Suggestions
Aiyen replied to phazer11's question in Post-Processing Support
I am currently in the process of finishing up my preset for v.186 ;) Also I am converting to ELFX over RLO since it is just superior with the recent update. Took me hours and hours to make an SOS patch, and reconfigure my relighting Skyrim for it as well... but well worth it! All people who are on my steam freinds list can just ask nicely for the files and I will send them :P -
Infinite loading screen when fast travelling from Solstheim to Skyrim
Aiyen replied to DaBozz's question in General Skyrim LE Support
And what is up with the long list of "post has been deleted" ? -
Already have a combination of SOS and CoT sounds to provide interior rain sounds that I like. As for the effect then it might be worth looking into. Honestly never missed or noticed splashes missing from the ground or objects. As for something happening under water, then i could live with that, since I almost never swim anyways.... not much point since the only thing to go down after are a few clams and some slaughter-fish.

If all else fails then start from the beginning of the STEP guide and make play tests along the way. Make sure your game can run before you move on. It is always a good idea to test out when you add more and more stuff. It makes it alot easier to notice if a mod failed to install correctly etc. In order to avoid the whole helgen into you can just type "coc riverwood" in the console from the main menu and get right into the game near riverwood.
