GUIDE Fear and Loathing in New Vegas - Feedback
Jax765 replied to EssArrBee's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
You mean the stealth detection experimental AI? No, it's turned off. Speaking of Project Nevada, for slower leveling, should I just set experience gain to 50%? Or are there any other parameters I should change? -

But a 10-15 FPS drop? Seems pretty extreme. Guess the mod author really went overboard with it lol. -

Speaking of AI glitches, I sometimes see NPCs with the weapon holding animation, but no gun in their hands. Then a second later, the animation seems to reset as they pull a weapon out. Is this a vanilla glitch? -

Ojo Bueno Nuka Cola seems to have a ridiculously large performance impact for me, at least in Goodsprings where I was testing how well the game runs with my mod setup. Facing towards Doc Mitchell's house, the game runs at 60FPS without it, and around 45-48FPS with it. First is without the mod, second is with. I initially thought it was due to RWL, but no, it's due to a vending machine replacer lol. Also I decided to remove DEIMOS, Afterschool Special and Bison Steve from my load order. DEIMOS isn't very good, and the latter two are mainly there to provide player homes, which I won't be needing now that I've got Mobile Truck Base. Added in King of the Ring because I'll be playing as an evil unarmed Legion sympathizer. Really liking how RWL looks too, very different atmosphere to Nevada Skies, seems more clear. -

Yeah, I merged it with the PN patch from the Impact mod page. Seems to be working well, but there's still a bunch of conflicts in FNVEdit. -

Thanks, I'll do that, no point wasting an ESP slot on it lol. BTW, regarding Impact, will a compatibility patch be included when you get back to the guide after the next version of STEP? -

So should I also put the Mojave Nights ESP after RWL? -

The ESP for RWL is placed after Mojave Nights, so should I do the same with the mod folder? -

Yeah, I just used the terminal to disable the storms and rain. Switching over to RWL to see if it looks better. -

What does RWL do better than Nevada Skies? NS has the various weather patterns, what are the other differences between the two? -

I occasionally encountered naked NPCs on my previous playthrough, I just used the resurrect command to fix it whenever. Are you using Diversified Wasteland? I am, and I've heard it has some issues with naked NPCs. Also have you uninstalled any mods during your playthrough? Might be they were meant to be wearing certain armor, and uninstalling the mods results in them being naked. After some playing around with IMPACT, I realised that body replacers don't produce bullet wounds on characters (I tested with a vanilla profile, and with the Impact ini tweaks, bullet wounds were prevalent on both NPCs and the player character). Are there any compatibility patches out there to solve this, or is essentially a pick your poison scenario? EDIT: After further testing, it appears to be hit and miss. Wounds show up on armors, but they can sometimes just refuse to appear unless you hit the limbs first. -

Took a bit of digging in the GECK lol. Also, does there exist an Impact compatibility patch for the mods included in the guide? Just finished my playthrough, and now I'm updating my mod list in preparation for my next one. EDIT: Another question, is it recommended to switch from Nevada Skies to Realistic Wasteland Lighting? Is there a noticeable performance difference? -
I'm not sure you understand what I'm asking. From the conflicts tab for a mod, you can hide files that conflict with other mods. But right now, you can't select multiple files and hide them at the same time, you have to do it one at a time.

Can't remember, it's been a long time since I did the process. Also, the Better Gas Leak mod affects certain objects negatively, namely House's portrait in House Resort and the rusted terminals like the one found in Doc Mitchell's home, so I created a mod to fix them. https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58557/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fnewvegas%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D58557%26preview%3D&pUp=1 -

The FOOK optional files have some decent retextures for various clutter objects. I mainly installed it for the improved typewriter texture. Also, whatever you do, I don't recommend optimizing the NMC textures. Only just noticed how badly it screws up some textures. First picture is vanilla, second is optimized, and the third is normal NMC. -
I see. Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to keep it in mind :) Also I know about the filetree thing, but if I want to hide all conflicting files from a mod while being able to see them, I have to select them bit by bit. The filetree doesn't show what conflicts, at least in version 1.2.18.

I'd like to know, does it affect performance/loading times when you have, say, a texture pack overwriting textures from another pack? For instance, right now with New Vegas, I'm using a number of texture packs, but would like to install a mod that addresses several objects that are missed by the other packs, without overwriting the objects that are effected by those packs. Would the best solution be to simply place it towards the top of my mod list, or to leave it where it is and delete/hide the necessary textures? On a similar note, is is possible to select multiple items in the conflicts menu and hide them? Kind of a pain having to do it for each individual one.

This bugfix mod for New Vegas Bounties II is meant for version 1.3, but it still fixes some bugs that have yet to be addressed by Someguy, like not being able to tell Ethan about Polly after capturing Red Bear and getting the note from Scull. https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/47984/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fnewvegas%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D47984%26preview%3D&pUp=1 Also, I was having issues with the Blood Hammer quest, where trying to enter the third floor of the apartment would cause a CTD everytime, and this mod fixed it: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/49319/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fnewvegas%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D49319%26preview%3D&pUp=1 -

Just tried using BSAOpt before you replied, worked with a bunch of other mods, but not the armor pack, mentioned that it'd be over 2GB and closed down. So would reducing the amount of loose files in my mod list by creating a BSA for some of the larger mods theoretically improve performance? -

I'm using Drags VGU armor pack (someone sent me a link), and it has around 3.5GB of textures and 400MB of meshes. Would it be worth packing into a BSA to improve performance/loading times? And if so, what program would I use to do that? -

Yeah, that alternative one is even more ridiculous lol. Also, heads up for anyone using the Pipboy 2500 mod. Make sure to enable the weapon mod fix from the configuration menu in the aid section. It fixes the issue I was having with speed loaders appearing behind my character's leg, as well as some notification whenever I exited the pipboy with a modded weapon equipped. Another thing, is Doc Friday's voice work meant to be unfinished in New Vegas Bounties II? His opening conversation is fully voiced, but after that, it's all unvoiced for me. -

I know that, but the dots just don't look right IMO. Is there a way to disable that, but keep the rest of the blood effects? I'm fairly sure that the vanilla effect is a puff of blood. That only changes the textures, not the effect. It's placed below EVE in my load order, but I still get the red dots. -

Are there any mods that provide an alternate blood spurt effect? The EVE one is good apart from those dots, which just look cartoony IMO. -

ENB has a bunch of issues, like ambient occlusion making shadows especially thick through fog, as well as transparency problems (and using the transparency fixer option sometimes introduces other transparency bugs), but I personally find it worth it, because without it, the game just looks like absolute dogshit. I'm using a personal tweaked version of the vanilla ENB binary, and that alone makes the game look so much nicer to look at. -

What is the main thing that effects loading times? ESPs, BSAs or the various loose files provided by mods? When I was testing the ADAM armor in an otherwise vanilla profile, it made me remember how quickly the game loads without my huge modlist being active. Also yeah, high-res ghouls should definitely be placed below Roberts and New Vegas Redesigned 3 in the load order. Much higher quality, and less emphasis on grossing the player out lol.
