  1. https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=2653 My thread.....Long story short....take out SMIM, and follow the instructions on DDSopt.....The big 4k mods do look amazing, but when your actually playing the game and not just wandering around going "ooooo look at that" you dont notice the difference between 4k and 2k trees. The RAM savings far outwieght the 5 mins of "ooo" factor and showing off to your mate with a crappy 8800gt I only went for 1024 on weapons coz you only really see them in your inventory and when your holding them trying to behead some bandits... Everything else, is set to 2048....take a look at my latest posts in my thread I`ve listed my current mod list (skyrim revisited) and my DDSopt choices Cant really say exactly which mods ive taken out, but the ones i can think of from STEP/SR are SMIM, AIMP, im using CBBE instead of UNP the neo suggests. I am also running ASIS and SkyRe though. so ive taken some things out to accomodate the huge extras you get from those 2. So far in tests my game seems stable, so im gonna start a fresh game (number 2786 this week) and have a proper play through
  2. i just came back on to say i figured out it was immersive creatures....forgot to use "integrated installer" all sorted....now i can use my current mod list and setup on a good long test through the game... So far all seems to be working well, the known freeze points are all kool, aside from a few random twitches when out and about... to be expected i suppose with the huge amount of mods
  3. Its simple, im running full SR with all DLCs. i`ve had to remove a few mods due to freeze issues but before i had them, i was runnign full texture mods and everything. 2.2Gb RAM and 2GB VRAM Just DDSopt everything to 2048x2048, and do *_n.dds to 1024x1024. lowering the normals really is astoundingly amazing at how much RAM you`ll lower....with no quality loss at all....(unless you go out of your way trying to find them) I did also lower all my armour mods down to 1024x1024 with 512x512 normals
  4. Well, removing SMIM has taken out most of the freeze issues. But now im stuck with a few purple textures/missing textures......every now and then i find a purple skeever. And most noticably, all the giants are invisible with giant floating purple axes???
  5. OK, well last night just before i was order to bed by the GF....yes i have an actual GF....lol shes real and everything Aaaaaanyway.....i spotted this.....https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=2265&pid=32992#pid32992 ....... Take off SMIM and any related mods (which i think is just the wearable lanterns SMIM patch) Thought....meh, cant hurt to try....ULREEKKAAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAK!!!!!! I loaded up the game, started in markarth, tgm, bought a horse, and set convenient horses to 100% extra speed and 1000 extra stanima. I sprinted on the horse all the way to the mine. Killed the forsworn, sprinted all the way up to the bridge, over the bridge, all the way to whiterun, all the way past whiterun, all the way to riverwood. At that point i got shouted at and wandered to bed with my tail between my legs like a *****. So today im going to re-add AV, and Dual Sheath, and Test it again. And this time im gonna set up all the mods in MCM menu correctly, and see what happens. Give it a try....take off SMIM....think about it...what does it actually add anyway.....if and when you really look at an apple, it`s not quite as lumpy...lol, no really it is a good mod but something in it, is causing memory loading issues in large open spaces
  6. I agree to your comment on the first quote....no idea why he`d start the game with coc But your comment on my quote....I am starting the properly, through AS, i was just stating that i am testing my list by loading the game up new, and not changing any setting inside the MCM menu. Havn`t though about trying the game without AS, it just comes in very handy when testing the game, and mod lists out 10-15 times in a day. Might try without it. Doesn`t really change gameplay, just makes it fast to get into the game
  7. i did get an infinite load screens issue after my re-install, but i just removed all the extra loadscreen mods apart from 3D Loadscreens and that fixed it.
  8. Im using SOS all-3. But im using SR so i spent 3 weeks applying the ginormous list of tweaks supplied by neovalen. Before i re-installed i did try removing all my sound mods, but it was still crashing. Im just in the process of going through and testing the freeze locations and tweaking the mod list.
  9. On a side note..... I think we should start gathering up reproduceable freeze points....So far we have 2, if i didnt know about Broken Tower Redoubt freeze i would have thought my game was fine. and played through until i hit a freeze and then teddy would have left the cot!!!! So, this far we have the following If anyone has anymore freeze points please let us know so wwe can add them to the list, and compile some sort of Stability Freeze Test list or something
  10. Well, good and bad news... My mod install folder is down to 21Gb (WOW) My in game RAM usage peaked at 2.1Gb, VRAM peaked at 1.8Gb I loaded up the game and started with my Hircines quest freeze. Fresh game, left all the MCM mod settings on default, and i managed to get all the way through the quest and run back to whiterun......Eureka you might think......but no... I started on phazer11`s markarth through Broken Tower Redoubt freeze. unfortunately as soon as i got to the other side of the bridge, the game froze. So now im going to have to start removing mods again and figuring out where the problem is.
  11. WB is good, but MO is by far more superior.......Neovalen has an amazing guide Skyrim Revisited.....Its just like STEP but has alot more depth and a efw extra mods.......it take a while to install (a good day) But his steps to setting up Mod Organizer and skyrim are the best around......https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Neovalen/Skyrim_Revisited
  12. Well, i have finally finished re-installing all the mods. Patches remade, all mods DDSopt`d, SUM ran, everything done. Here`s my new mod list This is what i`ve done with my mods Now time to run through the game, and test the 2 known freeze points
  13. Not a bad idea. But for startes, im gonna start with my reproducable freeze, phazer11`s, if get them working then this could be a good way to test overall outdoor performance
  14. OK, i left th epage for an evening and BOOM, 30 new posts. Well quick update, i spent better part of a day and night (3AM) re-installing all my mods and getting everything updated. I left the pc on overnight running a DDSopt sweep on the full folder at 2048x2048. Im now just about to run *_n.dds sweep at 1024x1024 on everything. Then i will go through and DDSSopt a few of the mods at lower settings (armor, the big 3, etc) Now to answer some of these questions. Im sorry if i seem blunt but some of these questions are stupid. If it was my save file size then it wouldn`t be happening withing 5 minutes of a new game starting.....which i mentioned a few times i was doing over and over (16 odd times) trying to remove moids and find the culprit. Yes ive added the SKSE tweak to the game. A clean save procedure????? NEW GAME!!!! For ref....the saves i have been getting are about 7~10mb (but i havnt managed to get past 15 hours fof Gplay in the last few months. But anyways, got everything re-installed, just getting the textures sorted, then get my game fired up. I have made a couple of changes to the load order, and found someone somewhere on the forum saying he swapped out DSI to the medium version and had alot less issues (its an idea) Going to be running armors and the big 3 landscapes at 1024 with half normals, and going to lower BFS, apocalypse, and DSI to 512/256......(The detail of the fire in the ground really doesn`t bother me, but these seem to have affected my freezing before so thinking lower them to lower their impact)
  15. Well im gonna do a re-install of all my mods. Mainly Coz i cant remember which ones have been DDSopt to 1024 or 2048. Plus this way i can make sure i have all the SR patches in place properly... Only thing i need some help with is the normals....Obv i need to be reducing the normals to half the size of the main textures but how? Do i just filter for _n.dds in DDSopt and then set to half size?
  16. hey phazer11 first of all thank you!!! you get it too....i mean bad you get it too :P as you see from my lat post i have been doing clean starts... this morning i began deactivating mods, and starting fresh games...16 times so far and i just though screw it, i`ll start from nothing and work my way up. So now, ive only got SkyRe, the SR fizes section and altern start. Once i get to a point where my freeze is back ill try yours. If you could try mine out that would be awesome. (falkreath) I know it sounds retarded, but i have an incling what it could be......when i first setup SR, i was using SRO but in my attempts to lower my RAM and VRAM usage in the 3.1GB issue i was getting lots of freezing and crashes. So i took off SRO completely and most of my freezes went away, but a week or so later i realised that all the files that SR says to remove if using SRO i had not replaced. So i put them back, and carried on playing. Now im getting these freezes again. (The occasional CTD but nothing serious) So my thoughts are it could be a mesh file or bad texture that DDSopt cant handle. But i wont know untill i get through my mod list again. Im going to work through it, loading up chunk by chunk and check that ive got the SR patches correct as i go. Hopewfully i can narrow down exactly what it is. And i will post a full list of what i find. I know im not getting the 3.1gb memory error, im running a 4GB GPU and 8GB RAM, my skyrim never goes above 2.8 and usually sits around 2.2~2.4. It might take a while to go through all my mods, but if you wouldn`t mind trying my freeze. And i`ll give yours a go once i hit my problems EDIT: Start in whiterun > ride horse along roads to falkreath jail > talk to the prisoner and get the ring > on foot, head out to the bridge just outside of town > take the guards out with bow/crossbow > kill white stag Its somewhere around this point im getting my freezing. Furthest i`ve managed to get it talking to hircines ghost. worst is approaching the bridge it freezes
  17. Im not getting CTDs, im getting freezing. I thought the 3.1GB issue was just CTD. Yes i know its not exactly 3.1GB but thats the name for it :) And im hoping someone out there can help me with this. If someone could run round their game and do what im doing....see what they get, would be awesome. Hoping someone with a fully modded game (step or preferably SR) could follow what im doing and see if they get it too Start in whiterun > ride horse along roads to falkreath jail > talk to the prisoner and get the ring > on foot, head out to the bridge just outside of town > take the guards out with bow/crossbow > kill white stag Its somewhere around this point im getting my freezing. (It happens at different points at differing stages but ive not been able to get near the cave as of yet) Also, i can find these freezes in varying parts of skyrim, but this one is reproducable for me. Note: I have now reset my ini files, and have reset my active mods to nothing but altern start, skyre, SR optimized vanilla files, and the SR fixes section.....so far so good
  18. NOPE THIS DAMN GAME IS GETTING TO BE VERY ANNOYING NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im now down to having half my mod list turned off, and the game is still freezing. Its getting beyond a joke.
  19. Figured it out.... Turns out quotsfans EEO + BOYD patch will allow the use of ASIS perks, but the quotsfans EEO patch will not. Atleast i still got ASIS spells and potions, would be pointless otherwise
  20. ok well, i`ve gone through and updated, and re-applied all the SR fixes. Ive removed several mods. Ran boss, FNIS, wrye bash, and then SUM. But now my game wont load with ASIS. Ive re-installed ASIS, but still crash on load. i take ASIS out, and its fine, even with reproccer and dual sheath still there. current load order Any ideas? I Suppose i can run without ASIS for now, but i really would like to get it running again
  21. Well, im just going through updating and stuff. Just found out a MAJOR RETARDATION. I updated skyTEST last week before my last new game...but i forgot to re-apply the SR fixes to it!!!! I Think i might have found some of my problems.....LOL Atleast ive managed to cut down my mod list a bit though aswell
  22. OK, so fresh day, new set of eyes. And some enthusiasm.....Time to remove some mods, do some updating and see if i can sort this... MODS removed... Bring Out Your Dead (+ associated patches, never used it, plus need to get rid so i can remove......) JaySuS swords (only in there coz one of the qotsafan skyre patches required it) Immersive armors (really dont want to but gonna give it a try) Brawls Bugs (not needed with SkyRe, as built in) Disease Descriptions (meh, just trying to lower esp numbers)
  23. VRAM very rarely goes above 2.5GB outdoors. DRAM doesn`t go above 2.8GB outdoors. Ive spent a good while resizing mods and removing mods to lower my RAM usage. I`m more than confident that its not RAM that causing the issues. As i`ve said already, since they appear to be totally random but once they appear, i can reload a previous save and it WILL happen again. - REF, mamoths outside whiterun And it is not because of a corrupt save game, as i stated, this i a new start only 8 hours of GPlay
  24. OK guys, Fresh game (8 hours gameplay) Mod lists Ini skyprefs.ini is only tweaked as far as SR recommends PC Game Issue Recently gone through the lists and removed a few random mods, and some that are too buggy to fix (3dNPC etc) Removed Automatic Variants to help with RAM, and hopefully fix my issue. The problem is outdoor CTD`s and freezing...it doesn`t happen at any specific point it seems to be totally random, but once i hit a point it can be reproduced (if that makes sense?) Randomly occurs but i can load a previous save and it will happen again. From what i can tell it happens when NPCs/Creatures pop in at the edge of the loading area. (hence why i removed AV) Taking AV off seemed to help for a few hours but now its still happening. I`ve read a few posts with people saying that running around too fast can cause it, but that's stupid. Im not gonna start playing the game slowly so i dont crash. The best example was the giant camp outside whiterun....i was doing the companion missions. I left whiterun, got on my horse, and went towards the camp to get to Dustmans Cairn. I spotted the fire pop in and as soon as the mamoths pop in to view....CTD. I get this at random points around skyrim, but this is the only time i`ve managed to nail down the reason. What im wanting, is to find out what mods can be causing this glitch. I thought AV coz of the mamoths...took it off and it seemed to fix it. (From what i can tell AV is safe to remove) But what else can be causing this? It deffinately seems to be caused by new NPC`s/creatures poping in, as it only happens when im moving. If im just waddling around gathering, or fighting, nothing....only when running/riding around. EDIT: Sorted ini file, so you can read it now. Yes i have some extra lines in papyrus, but these have helped my stability ALOT. Esspecially with random combat freezing etc.
  25. AutoSave Manager https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34842 Ive been running Skyrim Revisited. I followed the SR installation fully, and took off the auto + quicksaves. But i missed the ability to save quickly and easily. This mod is great for that. I have mine setup so create manual saves on Rest, Quest completion, Dungeon Cleared, and Character lvl up. Ive got manual save set to F6 and turned off its autosave, and incremental save features. (I have no idea if they work, or how they work) It gives you loads of options for saving, and from what i can see in Tes5Edit, it has no confilcts at all. With this i can just hit F6 get a quicksave effect but the mod create a full manual save. Only thing is when the timed save occurs the game pauses for a spliut second (could just turn the timed save off)
