  1. Done - New graphic for ENBoost Quickstart, and an equivalent for the ENB Quickstart which previously did not have one -------------------- Also edited the ENB Quickstart : Where you had the line .. 6. Setup the enblocal.ini Open the Skyrim folder and then open the enblocal.ini in a text editor (Notepad++ is recommended). That was immediately followed by Find the section named [GLOBAL] and ensure the line, UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false is set to false. This line if set to true will disable the graphic effects of ENBSeries and only use the memory management feature known as ENBoost. Now it looks like this with a graphic that was previously positioned wrongly further down the description : Setup the enblocal.ini: Open the Skyrim folder and then open the enblocal.ini in a text editor (Notepad++ is recommended). Find the section named [GLOBAL] and ensure the line, UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false is set to false. This line if set to true will disable the graphic effects of ENBSeries and only use the memory management feature known as ENBoost. IE probably originally intended to be positioned the same as per ENBoost quickstart, but lost in translation to ENB Quickstart https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB#ENB_Quickstart
  2. RELz **Bah! Humbug!** MERRY CHRISTMAS ( or whatever you celebrate at this time of year ) And a Happy New Year to all
  3. Found it ! :) I knew I had seen references to the same somewhere for Skyrim : https://www.afkmods.com/index.php?/topic/3676-skyrim-information-baked-into-saves/ Last line reference NPC facegen settings baked in to saves Also of interest Arthmoor linked another post on Wolflore Jac did, reference Hadorans cleaner, helping force NPC facegen to redo .. https://www.wolflore.net/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=2156 Exactly what files are involved which play a part in influencing facegen for Skyrim I have never looked into, I just know there is an easy solution in restarting which I regularly do testing unofficial patches anyway ;) Unless there is an obvious mismatch of adjacent texture edges in colour / pattern / bump mapping / shade / luminosity etc, a restart should help solve many little annoying problems like this.
  4. Will do, and thank you all for the help and links.
  5. Cool, I ask because I will probably change that one graphic : Its not correct because it includes an old setting which is no longer in [Global], Forcefakevideocard and there is the uncertainty about whether Usepatchspeedhackwithoutgraphics - when set to true - also switches off Usedeferredrendering, so there was no need to switch it off in accordance with the Editing ENBLocal INI guide, whereas the latter would have us believe it needs to be set false for just ENBoost users .. So if that image is for ENBoost only quickguide, then I think it should be showing as set to false. ( If the image is showing Usepatchspeedhackwithoutgraphics=true then that would indicate to me the image is for ENBoost only users presentation, to be later reversed in the instructions and images for full ENB users Quickstart guide, editing the ENBLocal.ini further down the page ) - - Yep as necessary I want to add a different image there too because that quick start guide does not currently have one ) Here's a default ENBLocal.INI just downloaded fresh : And here's the image in question as it currently is : I think for ENBoost users Quick guide that should be True / False / True / no forcefakevideocard And the opposite settings for the first two showing for ENB Quickstart image False / True / True / and again no forcefakevideocard I am not going to do the above tonight, getting too late, but when I can will pop in .. Going to leave the suggestion for you all to say yey or nay to first, I guess changing images on the wiki especially if they are the same name will overwrite the previous stored image, so I need to get those right without mistakes.
  6. One last question on Wiki's How / Where are the images stored ? I notice there is an upload facility, so does it give you a filename to link to that is then associated with the page you uploaded the image file to ? And then while editing just insert the new filename where you want the image like [[File:ENBoostINI.png]] for example
  7. Done. At least now some people will realise that the last setting of adding 128 to take them beyond stuttering may have been more than necessary, so reducing that by 64 may be enough and the sweet spot for their system. Its not going to be a common case but on my minimum spec laptop with 512mb VRAM, 64mb works well here. But then I dont have much in the way of texture sizes to be cached, for example a compressed DXT1 1024x1024 texture is only 683 kb, barely two thirds of a mb, and there arent many textures in my setup bigger than that, while the majority are smaller. For the purposes of the S.T.E.P community I can imagine 512mb as just a cache being the average especially if those darn mega sized manholes are in use :). Edit : Thats "Done" in response to TA @ Z - I had multiple tabs open so just pasted into the build of that post as I went through .. But yep I realise the Wiki will have a record of changes to undo, I detailed the changes to reassure I was not just vandalising the page, the only people who have seen me methodically work through someone elses work before were the old Wrye Bash team when I was doing an interpretation of the Official documentation into an accurate but more street friendly version .. ie the Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide word smithing. I think TA needed the reassurance with his work being meddled with, which also corroborates the individual changes comments ( easy for a quick check as to what was done where ) Then at another later date if I have time to help with something, I would be trusted ... Muahahahaha! :)
  8. Has there been any discussion recently anywhere reference the new default setting for .. ReservedMemorySizeMb=64 Just wondering because if that is a default setting, and the guide is talking about a minimum of 128 ( increasing in steps of the same value ) - For a bit more precision in adjustment the increase could probably be refined https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB#Memory
  9. @ Z Also TY ^^ Only a bit of actual layout change was needed I think, the rest was minor corrections so links do not need to redirect anymore or broken tab links. Plus a bit of mod updating and new info. Going for a coffee before I have another look, see if anything could be a better layout, but I dont think anything major needed doing really besides putting ENBoost first as a logical progression of advancement in using the ENB Binaries.
  10. @ TechAngel - TY :) 1st edit - Slight layout change in ENB section start, to match ENBoost section start = Title / Quickstart / What is / <Indent sub-topics> Also removed a few extraneous indents, sub-topics 7.5.1 and 7.5.2 had five and only needed four --------------------- Changed "4 What is ENBoost" from : Use the {{#switchtablink:Quickstart|Quickstart}} tab to jump right into using ENBoost which is located midway down the page or continue here for more detailed information about ENBoost and how to properly set it up. 11. TA sorry if you already know this and I am stating the obvious .. But do you know that skin tone differences can be attributed to files which you did not have installed when you started your game ? .. ie NPCs and your Player Characters appearences are set in stone when you started a new game, and continue in your save. So differing textures, nif's, tri's, tint masks etc which have been added to your game since after your game initially generated the world and its characters geometry can make a difference to tone matches between neck/body wrist/arm ankle/leg. Basicly if you are changing any files to do with parts of bodies, for perfect matches a new game start would be best. Thats been a known problem since Oblivion with this series of games ( not sure about fallout, I didnt mess much with that game ). See an old mod called Optimized Facegen Files for Oblivion which tried to get around some neck seam problems, but even there with such an incredible amount of work going into that mod, a new game start was recommended : "If you plan to use OFF with an existing game, be warned that your character and everyone else will look a little different." I think there were a few files in Unofficial patches which work better with a new game start .. Problems with those were also further complicated by users not understanding what they were doing to the game setup with MO aswell, but thats another complicated story.
  12. Thanks z But I am fast running out of time I could have helped. Its four days since I offered, and on hold for TechAngels review. Tonight would be the last night I can devote to doing something like this for a while. I think though that TA may have made a few changes anyway, pretty sure I have seen a sub topic title or two move from an old position to a newer more logical flow for reading .. Pretty much along the same lines I had in mind without going into detail before I stopped editing. IF TA does get around to giving the go ahead sometime in the next few hours, I will look over if there is anything left I wanted to do in my remaining time tonight.
  13. I believe I have seen the same mentioned, but no idea where I saw it. Which is why I quoted the latest and best known descriptions that we have in the "Editing ENBLocal INI" - As far as I know thats all we have to go on, and the logic that can be inferred. I am pretty sure I have seen other settings mentioned as not being available for use of ENBoost only users, but cannot confirm. A few of the Game fixes I think were mentioned at one time. But possibly someones bad interpretation of something Boris said in the past .. Who knows. By the way Keith thank you for plugging away at Boris with questions to clarify a heap of misconceptions previously, its due to that I have been recommending this part of the guide everywhere as the difinitive interpretation of ENBLocal.ini usage. And you never got your ears chewed off .. amazing :)
  14. Yep thats why I cut off any more editing, the last edit I did is the only one which cut information out ( because I believed it was no longer extant with all the work that has gone into the new information in the "Editing ENBLocal INI" section. And with the move of that part of the whole to being adjacent to the old Memory section, it seemed unecessary to be duplicating After I made the edit though I thought along the same lines that it could have been tailored for full ENB users .. So stopped there I do not have the ability to recover a section already changed, but I believe it is possible, so made no further changes making the last edit the only one to be concerned with restoring if needs be. I will hold off making any further changes until all are happy with the way its going ( there are a fair few more details still need changed, positioning I think is mostly good, but there are now later topic paragraphs which refer to tabs still, and maybe a link or two I noticed were no longer valid ), its mostly just small details I think. All changes were commented though to give a summary of the changes ( except my very first edit which was a noob mistake ), and only the most recent one deleted what I thought was duplicated information Edit : See post #313 Configuring ENBoost Memory Parameters Editing Enblocal INI The Memory parameters section was immediately followed by the same ( similar possibly tailored ) information in Editing ENBLocal INI It probably made sense where it was originally in the order of the topic ( after de-tabbing ) But seemed to me to be unnecessary duplication in what is now an adjacent subject. As far as I can see, what is now .. section 6.4 ENB INIs That is where the dedicated full ENB users ENBLocal.ini information is.
  15. https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB#Global_.28enblocal.29 This parameter will enable or disable deffered shading rendering which many ENB effects are reliant upon. These include screen space ambient occlusion (SSAO), Image Based Lighting, Reflections, Particle Lights, and Skylighting. This can be disabled for users having performance issues; however, it will effect the look of the ENB preset. This parameter is enabled by default. If only using ENBoost features, this should be set to false as it will not be needed. UseDefferedRendering=(false, true) Edit : Now look at the third screenshot clip in the https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB#ENBoost_Quickstart Which has the default set as True So anyone just using ENBoost, and not using a full ENB will think that picture is gospel unless told otherwise In the line that precedes that screenshot they are already being told to set UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false from false to true. ( Also depicted in the screenshot with its default false setting ) So another line needs to be added to explain for just ENBoost users .. I think. Edit : Going to look at this with fresh eyes tomorrow - Getting too late to be editing things without error :)
  16. The mod page you speak of .. Are we talking ENBoost on nexus ?, or some part of step I am not familiar with ( I dont use S.T.E.P at all, most of it is out of my machine spec' league :) so I am going to be unfamiliar with a lot of the forum guides pages you are probably talking about ) + I have found a conflict of opinion I was going to ask is there any need for the Configuring ENBoost section, if its already stated in the quick start section .. However In the quickstart guide for ENBoost, one of the pictures has set UseDefferedRendering to True .. Whereas in the Configuring ENBoost section we have set UseDefferedRendering to false. According to the description of this setting it should only be set to False for just ENBoost users, Full enb users need it set to True. So the picture in the Quickstart guide needs amending - Or : I just need to add a new line into the Quickstart guide explaining that setting depends on whether using just ENBoost, or full ENB Seeing as the Quickstart guide for ENBoost really applies to both kinds of users, I think the latter is the case and a new text line needs adding in there between the pictures.
  17. Just made an edit which may ring alarm bells - But consider the layout change first : I have removed the "3.3.1 Memory Parameters" section Because that section is now immediately followed by the newly updated "Editing ENBLocal INI" section, it was unnecessary duplication of information in adjacent sub-topics. I am going to hold at this point in case there is any reason to undo that edit ???
  18. :) Having at it. Will probably take a day or two doing this carefully ( in between life bugging me away from it ) I am also making summary comments for each edit ( except the first edit I did, missed the potential relevance of making comments, and then realised on the second edit ) Will post back when I have finished editing
  19. Anyone ? I am also going to change a lot of references to Tabs in the wording, which are no longer Tabs. ( Had finger poised on the commit button with a few more edits for a while but until I am confident in what I am doing here will wait on a response to the previous two posts - So refreshed the page without saving the changes I was experimenting with ) Edit : I have made one further change, because the guides are coming at the reader in the order ENBoost before ENB - To the section ENB Quickstart, added the following : 6. Setup the enblocal.ini: Open the Skyrim folder and then open the enblocal.ini in a text editor (Notepad++ is recommended). Find the section named [GLOBAL] and ensure the line, UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false is set to false. This line if set to true will disable the graphic effects of ENBSeries and only use the memory management feature known as ENBoost. Similar to the ENBoost entry, but with the opposite setting, so that anyone reading the ENBoost Quickstart first, followed by the ENB Quickstart, will know to change this from what they have previously set.
  20. Just made the edit - Changed ENBoost Quickstart paragraph is now before the ENB Quickstart paragraph And the Index on the right has updated correctly Before I make any more changes have I made any non-obvious wiki noob fubars here ?
  21. I am just about to make a tentative first time editing a wiki edit, standby for lots of headaches Joking - I shall be very careful not to delete or take out of context any detail, I dont wish to make more work for anyone this close to the holidays. And noted keeping quickstart where it is - Though can I split the relative quickstarts into the relative section of the page ? All things ENBoost - starting with its own Quickstart All things ENB - Starting with its own Quickstart Reason I ask is because the ENB quick start includes advanced game ini editing which is not required for ENBoost, which if I keep them together would come before everything else ENBoost ( Yes I know they are clearly labelled and should not be used by ENBoost users, but I think it would be better if they were distinctly in the ENB part of the page and not mixed together )
  22. Yes I understand all of that already, see the link in post 304 as opposed to the link in post 301 The main reason I am posting ( probably not too clearly ? ) is for a proposal to change the layout of the whole page which is not being addressed. If its getting an overhaul anyway and links already need to be changed around all the bazaars then why not do this also : All things ENBoost, with a clear cut off point, before all things ENB That is the main reason for me posting here, see previous posts for reasoning. Edit : Now highlighted in orange in all previous posts Edit 2 : Reference wiki editing - Is it easy ?, I am not familiar with using a full ENB so may get things entirely wrong on those parts of the page, and the flow required for that subject.
  23. Ok well thats one question answered at least, thank you I have now linked from my article on Nexus to this part of your guides page. https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB#Editing_Enblocal_INI Please let us know if you would consider my suggestion above reference the layout change for all things ENBoost to precede all things ENB on that page ( because logically everyone uses ENBoost, but not everyone needs to read further for the more advanced ENB side of the story or need its settings ) .. Then I can adjust Article / Forum topic answer links accordingly. I am not going to touch the latter heap of changes everywhere for now just in case.
  24. Additionally, in the first post, your link .. "For discussion of ENBoost, please view it's own thread here: https://forum.step-pr...ad.php?tid=3011" Is also broken
  25. Ehm, guys are the changes to the wiki now permanent ? I mean reference the old Tab layout which is now conspicuous by its absence I have been linking people in various forum topics around the bazaars for quite a while to the following : https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB#tab=Editing_Enblocal_INI Which is now obviously broken for all those topics. This link used to lead directly to the Tab dealing purely with ENBLocal ini, for the purpose of pointing out to ENBoost users ( ONLY ENBOOST ) .. Now it leads to one huge confusing page which starts out with topics such as setting .. bFloatPointRenderTarget=1 Which is entirely unnecessary for just ENBoost users. When the setting were on their own Tab, during explanations linking there was less opportunity to confuse people with a full ENB setup. The merge into one page has made that a bit more confusing I feel. How about if the page were to start with ENBoost, What is ENBoost, ENBoost quick start, which applies to everybody.. .. and as the page goes on develops into full ENB, What is ENB, ENB Quick start, with more advanced tweaks needed for such a setup, and enbpresets etc available last. And there is a clear point at which ENBoost users can stop reading ? At the moment the flow is a mixed bag, and for newbies prone to falling asleep during a wall of text ( even a wall of text with pretty pictures - See Wrye Bash documentation old and new as another example of regular confusion for people with the attention span of a goldfish ) could be read as needing some things from a full ENB setup when they are not. I cant even remember half the topics I have linked to the old Tab location on the subject, so no doubt people searching the subject will be even more confused now by a link which no longer links to the subject matter directly. Confused people are confused. Edit : The redefining work on how to word the ENBLocal.ini settings explanations recently - Thanks to Keithinhanoi having a way of talking to Boris without triggering a typically bizarre angry response, and having a deep understanding of systems and what ENBoost is trying to achieve - Was excellent.
