I'm having the problem again now... a simple page like these: https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Kelmych/Fallout3_INIs has taken me 10 minutes to load. I'm still waiting for: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Skyrim_Launcher to open.

Giving it a shot again...
JUNKdeLUXE replied to JUNKdeLUXE's topic in Fallout 3 - Clear & Present Danger
Pre-Installation Checklist Problem: For users with Windows 10 and Fallout 3 Game of the Year (Steam Version), the Fallout Launcher won't generate Fallout.ini (and thus you can't run the game and/or run the Games for Windows Live Disabler as it needs the Fallout.ini). Solution: Copy Fallout_default.ini from your F03 game directory to your %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My games\Fallout3 folder Rename the copied file to fallout.ini Download and run Games for Windows Live DisablerThis fixes the problems with Fallout not being able to start properly for setting up your initial ini files etc. -
under 1.E.1.2. Nvidia Users please change the following: to Red emphasis mine. Reason: I always do step 3 and 4 and then I read I don't have to do it, so now I'm wondering.. what were the settings before I changed them?!? etc. Things that should be omitted from an install guide should be noted before the S.T.E.P.s for it are described.

Giving it a shot again...
JUNKdeLUXE replied to JUNKdeLUXE's topic in Fallout 3 - Clear & Present Danger
1st order of business. In the write up of "What this guide is still lacking" we have this notice: Red emphasis is mine. Does this mean that in order to install Clear and Present Danger (CPD from now on) correctly, requires me to read and follow the readme's and other Mod Author (MA) information giving on the Nexus pages?!? If so, this kinda invalidates an INSTALL guide. Every step necessary for a successful install guide, should be in said guide. If the red emphasis is only to underline that to use the mod in game (hotkeys, quest order and what not) then I recommend a re-write of the notice to: -
Aight.. after having cooled down with a good night's sleep, I'm thinking about doing the install again from scratch. During my install I will highlight the sections I find troublesome, difficult to understand, could be understood in more than 1 way, while also suggesting edits to the wiki in regards to white space, readability etc, in a way to hopefully reduce problems for other users of Kelmych's awesome work.

Fallout 3 has got to be the most error prone, glitchy, crashy, pos ever made. I really wanted to play the game as I was huge fan of Fallout 1 and 2 (and I've tried a bit of Fallout 4 and it too seems decent).. but I just can't get anything to work :( It's laggy, I get CTDs left and right etc. maybe Fallout 3 is just not for me and should try out New Vegas instead.. it seems as if development is still going on somewhat strong there. Thanks for your guide and help Kelmych, sadly it decided not to work for me (and Windows 10).

Instructions for using Merge Plugins Utility
JUNKdeLUXE replied to mcshame's topic in Fallout 3 - Clear & Present Danger
a bit of a semi necro... are merges necessary? I understand merges are needed when over or nearing the 254 plugin limit but if I'm hovering around the 180ish, it wonder if it would have any benefit for me? -
CTD at Arlington Library and/or Rivet City
JUNKdeLUXE replied to JUNKdeLUXE's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports
I don't intend to use center on cell (COC) when I finally got a game that works.. I only used it to test if various locations worked... but that is news to me. Maybe all this testing has been for nothing :( well, atleast I'm learning stuff, so that's always good. -
Sorry to be such a downer Kelmych, but I have more questions :) I read somewhere that xEdit would throw up errors if something was out of the ordinary, but I never had a popup and thus belived everything was perfect.. That was until I started studying the log that happens when you load mods into xEdit (yes those thousands of lines)... This is what I saw, and I have no idea if it means anything. and Nothing to worry about or something I should somehow fix?

CTD at Arlington Library and/or Rivet City
JUNKdeLUXE replied to JUNKdeLUXE's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports
wait.. so are you saying that Rivet City Market is usually time and/or quest constrained? I havn't played Fallout 3 before (well an hour or so) and that might be why it's DC'ing me? (as I'm not allowed in there before doing a quest, attain a faction etc) ?!? In that case.. I might just have spend a day troubleshooting when there were no trouble :S -
CTD at Arlington Library and/or Rivet City
JUNKdeLUXE replied to JUNKdeLUXE's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports
okay.. more testing. I've tried various settings etc and everything still works as long as I leave the Acoraito mod out (for some reason)... now all mods work. UNLESS I make a bash patch.. then coc rchangar = CTD. What can I do?!? -
CTD at Arlington Library and/or Rivet City
JUNKdeLUXE replied to JUNKdeLUXE's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports
I decided that I didn't need sleep this night, so I spend it disabling a mod at a time and see if I could enter Rivet City Marketplace (coc rchangar).. and lo' and behold, I found the culprit!!! Acoraito HD Textures Pack Finnally!!! It has been my thorn in my side.. don't ask me why, but now, with that removed all other 240ish mods work.. I don't get how a small mod with only textures and meshes can screw up a game :S I am a bit tired now though... -
CTD at Arlington Library and/or Rivet City
JUNKdeLUXE replied to JUNKdeLUXE's question in Guide Support & Bug Reports
so there is nothing I can do? does Fallout 3 have an error log I can enable to see if something comes up? or any way I can pinpoint what is causing this? I am doing a Clear and Present Danger install with all optionals - no 20th century weapons though - and thus no STEP patch from the Wasteland Patch Collection. Here is my loadorder: Please use spoiler tags for large blocks of text:
...
-
SKYRIMLE Bethesda: A Cesspit of Endless Theft and Greed
JUNKdeLUXE replied to mlee3141's topic in Step Banter Inn
Ahh.... the "master" of drama has returned after the recent backfire with Mod Picker. 2 things.. 1. Yes, the current practice of mod piracy is not good, I agree, and Bethesda could do better to combat it. 2. You don't know if it's Skyrim Remastered. How about you wait spewing bile before you actually know what you're talking about. -
CTD at Arlington Library and/or Rivet City
JUNKdeLUXE posted a question in Guide Support & Bug Reports
I've finally gotten my install up and running and it seems to be running fine now (after some problems with installing the Wasteland patches correct). After I woke up (alternative start) I tried to COC RCHanger but I had CTD each and every time.. instead I tried running there, and I got CTD a few secs after getting the Arlington Library waypoint. So far everything else seems to work dandy, but not this... What can I do to troubleshoot?!? -
I've been doing the Clear and Present Danger install during the last 2 weeks, and they (and wiki pages it link to) have been progressively had more and more load time. The forums on the other hand still seem fine. Not sure what the problem is.

Creating a Bashed Patch
JUNKdeLUXE replied to JUNKdeLUXE's topic in Fallout 3 - Clear & Present Danger
I did not know that, no... Isn't that a bit risky? I mean if everyone can change another persons guide, possibly destroying it? -
sooooooo Kelmych, first of all.. amazing job putting all this together. I could not have done that. Cudos! There have been some places though where I almost grew hairless. This has mainly been with some inconsistencies in the descriptions of what to do. Word flow if you will, describing actions you don't have to do now, but return to when doing a much later step. Also several places it seems as if redundant or leftover text from previous renditions have not been removed or changed... It's been a bit of a trial and error for (granted, I'm pretty anal when it comes to following guides, and I expect them to be short, precise and only able to be understood one way). No matter though.. I've come (safely?) through it and are almost done, thinking to myself, that I might finally be able to start playing... That was until I saw this monstrosity: Creating a Bashed Patch To create a bashed patch first go to the directory where MO is installed and open the mod folder. Create a new mod folder with the folder name using "Bashed Patch," followed by the current profile name (e.g., Bashed Patch, Clear and Present Danger"). Now copy the Bashed Patch, 0.esp from the Fallout 3 goty\Mopy\templates\ folder to the folder that was just created in MO's mods folder. Start Mod Organizer, activate the new mod containing the blank bashed patch in the left pane of MO. Make sure that in the right pane that Bashed Patch, 0.esp is at the bottom of the right pane of MO. Now run Wrye Flash through Mod Organizer. In all the Bethesda RPG games prior to Skyrim, date/time was used for ordering mods. That's why you see the relative old times on plugins even for recent plugins. The "need to reset times" dialog box in Wrye Flash will often show up when starting Wrye Bash. Locking times means no that load order sorting is allowed; this is included in Wrye Flash for use when Wrye Flash is also the mod manager. Wrye Flash and LOOT need to change times to sort the plugins, so Lock Times should be disabled in Wrye Flash. This is discussed in more detail in the Load Order section of the Wrye Bash General Readme. If there are any plugins that don't have the desired bash tags, select the plugin then right click in the lower right Bash Tags window and check or uncheck the tags until the tags are correct. As previously mentioned, Wrye Flash will automatically import bash tag data from several locations but the LOOT masterlist is not currently one of these locations. A new page of bash tags will be added soon, or a line will be added to the mods, that can be used with xEdit to add the proper bash tags to plugin headers. Wrye Flash can indicate that the masters for a particular mod are not ordered properly. This happens fairly often, but can be fixed fairly easily. First, note which plugins have this problem. Once a good plugin order has been determined, load the plugins into xEdit. For each plugin that has misordered masters: highlight the plugin iin xEdit right click to plugin and select Sort Masters When this has been done for all the mods with misordered masters, close xEdit and accept the changes. To create a bashed patch, when Wrye Flash is started right click "Bashed Patch,0.esp" and select Rebuild Patch. If there is a pop-up that saying certain mods will be disabled because they are mergeable, click [Yes]. If not, disregard. In the Bashed Patch menu in the left pane it is recommended that ALL boxes are checked except the following: To create a bashed patch first go to the directory where MO is installed and open the mod folder. Create a new mod folder with the folder name using "Bashed Patch," followed by the current profile name (e.g., Bashed Patch, Clear and Present Danger"). If there is a pop-up that saying certain mods will be disabled because they are mergeable, click [Yes]. If not, disregard. In the Bashed Patch menu in the left pane it is recommended that ALL boxes are checked except the following: What in all the hells is this? :) Okay.. I'll take this step by step so you can see how an outsider thinks when trying to follow this. 1. To create a bashed patch first go to the directory where MO is installed and open the mod folder. Okay.. not too hard to follow. Just a bit strange to do it like this when I'm used to just right-click and choose "Build Patch" in Wrye Bash.. but I guess Wrye Flash is different. 2. Huh? why is this important? I've just ran LOOT, why do I have to think about load order again? (on a second note.. load order by time? Wrye Flash sure was/is old :P) 3. Again.. the previous step has just taken me through this (had to do bash tags in Wrye Flash as the xEdit script failed), so why are we talking about this? 4. Wrye Flash can indicate that the masters for a particular mod are not ordered properly. This happens fairly often, but can be fixed fairly easily. First, note which plugins have this problem. Sounds good... how does it indicate that? 5. Once a good plugin order has been determined, load the plugins into xEdit. So... I load Wrye Flash through Mod Organizer.. and now I should load xEdit through Wrye Flash (which was opened through Mod Organizer) ?!? 6. For each plugin that has misordered masters: highlight the plugin in xEdit right click to plugin and select Sort Masters When this has been done for all the mods with misordered masters, close xEdit and accept the changes. No problem.. done this a "thousand" times when modding Skyrim. Also, this is a perfect example of a good instruction. It's short, precise and can't be misinterpreted. I'm still working on the rest, but I'll update it, should I find any regularities :)

eXcalibr - ammo eXpansion pack
JUNKdeLUXE replied to JUNKdeLUXE's topic in Fallout 3 - Clear & Present Danger
I think you misunderstood :) I am using eXcalibr.. I was thinking about the step you mentioned (that I quoted). The way you've written that: Sounds like it's not optional, even if I DID NOT install 20th Century Weapons. -
Under this step it advices to: Is this still adviced even if I choose not to use the OPTIONAL 20th Century Weapons mod?!?
-
Sadly ChuckSteel has removed all his mods from Nexus due to the present mod stealing controversy :( This mean that: Baileys Crossing Metro OpenedDCInteriors ProjectDCInteriors A Room With A View are currently not available. If I continue my install, would I have to do something different, now that these are gone (for the moment) ?

Not updated yet?!? What is the correct way to install Better High Detail map and Icons with Mod Organizer? -
Baldurs Gate vs Baldurs Gate : Enhanced?
JUNKdeLUXE replied to DanielCoffey's topic in General Game Discussion
Hear hear !!! Baldurs Gate is my absolute favorite game.. even today (close second is Skyrim). I also have both BG and BGEE and I still can't figure out which is the best of the 2 (for a heavy modder). -
Neovalen has a different opinion/goal with his guide that differs from the official S.T.E.P guide. The Jarl's outfit will still be updated, it will just be from another mod that Neovalen deems better for his purpose.

thanks :)
