YAY! The Dragon Soul Absorb Bug! YAY!

Question

Posted (edited)

Anyone else sick of all the bugs this game has?

So here I am again....other people have had this bug....I know all the various "fixes" other people have reported, none of them have worked for me.

I cannot absorb the first quest Dragon's soul to progress the main story.

I've tried this: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31685/?

I've tried this: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31909/?

I've tried moving Dragonborn.esm AFTER the unofficial patch in the load order.

I've tried removing all Unofficial patches.

I've tried turning off Deadly Dragons (even though I already knew that was not the problem).

HALP

-edit-

According to this https://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Rising I should not use console command to progress this quest.

  • There is a bug where you cannot take the soul from Mirmulnir; if this happens, you can download the Unofficial Dragonborn Patch and that fixes the problem. (If you use console commands to advance the quest, dragons will not naturally spawn in the game world.)

Its finally working.

I deleted EVERYTHING and started over from scratch. All the exact same mods and same setup. Guess something didnt install right or download might have been corrupted.

Yes I am testing with new Saves AND old Saves after cleaning the old saves and purging the cells (waiting inside a house for the cells to repop).

The issue here is that Every fix I have read about involves that one script file, but nothing outside of the DLC and the DLC patch even touch this file (I checked), so what could be causing it?

If your using MO there can be issues because MO is weird sometimes.

Make sure the Non-Mo plugins are in the correct order (yes this matters).

follow this order:

DGHFDBUSKPUDGPUHFPUDBP

Now go to the archives tab that is above the Sort button.

Uncheck Have MO manage archives

NOTE: After you try this out check Have MO manage archives

If this doesn't solve it the its a script override somewhere but you said you're only running vanilla + DLC so, this isn't going to help but its good documentation...

In the overrides there is a script for in dragonborn that need to not be overriden but the name escapes me

You can try re downloading the achieve again and re installing or you can just re install the unofficial patches

If your doing a manual install then you might have a bad archive but that is unlikely since archive fail upon extracting.

I know the name of the script file in question. I have triple checked and NOTHING is touching it but the Unofficial Patch.

At this point I think its literally just the game DLC itself....how exactly this came to be the issue....I have no idea.

Is it ok to run the game 100% vanilla (no DLC at all) and then add the DLC to the save later?

Almost, the only difference is "Stable uGridsToLoad" which is higher in the INSTALL order than the other items because that is how it is presented in STEP.

LOAD ORDER: this is how it looks if I turn my mods on. Note that I have been testing with EVERYTHING OFF except the official DLC, even under the Archive section.

What are those "opt" versions of the core plugins?

I would guess those are re-packed BSAs, in which case: Did you use BSAopt? Did you use the right archive flags?

BSAopt's packing implementation is broken and shouldn't be used; and if you compressed any BSAs that contain scripts, there's a good chance those scripts will fail to load.

they are not BSA's. just highly compressed textures. I test with various levels of compression to see what works best.

Also now for the first time, for no reason at all, when everything else but the dragon soul absorbing was working, I just CTD.

I don't understand any of this anymore...the more I try to "fix" this game the worse it gets.

-edit-

just reran through the section that CTD me last time, no CTD.....no texture bugs...no macro stutter...I just don't even understand anymore.

-more edit-

I found ANOTHER bug. -rips hair out-

Did you know if you don't do the Black Smiths quest at Riverwood at the very begining of the game, you can do it at the Smith in Whiterun instead? I sure didnt.

Did you know if you DONT do the one in Riverwood, the one in Whiterun might bug out and become uncompletable? I sure didnt......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Sounds odd. But yea, you only get 1 introduction to Blacksmithing. I have actually rarely done the one in Riverwood, I tend to skip it and do it in Whiterun. I have never encountered a bug with it thouh.

I'd say remove everything... Including Base game MO and ini's...

Restart from scratch... There was an issue with a fomod installed in MO I believe. Maybe it messed something up
