Updating Winterheart II ... which ENB version to use?

Question

Posted

So the beautiful Winterheart II weather + enb mod is a bit out of date at this point, and I'd like to fix that for a playthrough with a second character. I intend to use this guide. I'm not savvy with all the ENB intricacies, but I figure I can follow directions.

Anyway, I want to keep the original look but update so that I can use the ENBoost function. Do you guys recommend a particular version or is it one of those "might as well use the latest" things? I was thinking at least .236 for underwater goodies.

Mainly it is related to the tonemapping, and is a symptom of having a too large dynamic range compared to the base color space the object has.

Technically it comes down to the sky sphere in skyrim not allowing for full color range usage... for god knows what reason.

The way to heavily reduce/remove it entirely it is by using a saturated noise shader, and/or dithering techniques.

Again it also depends on which weathers you are dealing with. If the weathers have too large transitions in color going between day, sunset/dawn and night then it will happen more.

I'm sure that makes sense to you, and I GENUINELY appreciate the input (you've been so helpful on so many things) ... but that might as well have been in Chinese xD;

I've got it lessened somewhat, still needs some tweaking though.

OK, doublepost may not be necessary but ... just in case. ;)

Not directly ENB related, but Winterheart II related. I notice in TES5Edit that Dawnguard stuff isn't carried over -- makes sense, it's outdated. I'm curious ... if I made a patch to carry Dawnguard changes over, would that be a good thing or a bad thing? lol Would it allow Winterheart weathers in Dawnguard? Do I even want that to happen or will that bork stuff?

I successfully made a patch to combine a food overhaul with RND compatibility as a test run for this kinda thing, so I think I CAN do this successfully. I'm just not sure I SHOULD.

If you need a noise shader that will sort it out I can provide, just throw me a pm and you can experiment with it. It will help quite a bit.

As for dithering, then sweetFX has one, and with some time I could also make that available without actually using SweetFX.

As for the DG stuff. I do not know the specifics, so I will thread carefully. If it is just weathers then no harm will be done, just remember to also get the weathers into the regions or they will not be used unless you manually call them.

And anything that messes with the regions will mess with sound overhauls if you use any of those.

Hope that made some sense! :)

:woot: Will do about the PM!

I hadn't thought of sound overhaul. I loaded up AoS and that looks fairly straightforward to fix. For regions where Winterheart has (vanilla) sounds that AoS doesn't, I guess I'll just remove those and carry over only AoS ones.

I patched in Dawnguard for weathers, just adding Dawnguard standard weather to the existing Winterheart weather table for the conflicting regions. I left it at the high (90 percent, if I'm reading it right) chance to fire so it will take precedent most of the time. If it's distracting then I figure I can change it once I get there. :)

Huzzah!

I I hadn't seen where Neovalen's Legendary version had added all the Touring Carriage compatibility stuff, that's awesome and patched in for me, so I think these Winterheart conflicts are the last hurdles to me starting this game, as I based mine heavily on that.
