Well... I've tried several browsers. From Opera, to Safari, to Firefox, to Chrome, to Torch, to Cyberfox and Waterfox.

I've been considering trying Torch again actually ever since Youtube did that major roll out of the split audio and video streams. Never tried that Maxthon but I'll try it out along with rockmelt (another I've been meaning to try again). Though I'm wary of both Maxthon and Rockmelt the words "cloud" and "social media" set off alarm bells.

Wow, I didn't realize how far Maxthon had come. Just a few years ago it was a featureless browser with almost nothing special about it. I used to keep track of some browsers with Zeuapp, but that isn't around anymore. Need something like that to come, it was the best way to keep track of open-source projects.

The main thing I have against Firefox is pretty much the user interface's rather 3d appearance' date=' if you know what I mean. You see, in Chrome, you get the visual impression that each tab is very thin and it feels like to my hand that I need not work very hard to flip open another tab. In Firefox, however, there is a sense of depth to it which makes me feel like I have to press the mouse button very hard in order to open a new tab. Similarly, this is why I still use Mod Organizer's dark skin instead of the skins I've been playing with, because my skins ironically give Mod Organizer that same depth feeling.

I don't suppose you have any finished skins you could upload, would you?  I never got the opportunity to play around with it myself, though I remember you explaining shortly how you do it.

I did try Maxton couple of years ago and I didn't like it so much. It had a few cool features that other browsers lacked at the time, but it was slow and something was really annoying about it, however I cannot recall exactly what it was now... Saying that, more than two years have passed since then and the browser might have evolved significantly.

For now I'm happy with Chrome and ill stick with it.

There are only 2 things i really like about maxthon, i love the start page and how you can have all the links to all the places your going to be using... i love the turbo browsing it's very fast but if your internet has a base limit it can zap away those mb in seconds, i use to have a 3 gig a month internet limit so i was quick to un-install it in the past and not tried it since i got unlimited.

I hate the left side bar it really destroys it for me, im going to try cyberfox. the name sounds awesome ----- some time later -----

Ok been using cyberfox for a while, it seems faster than waterfox and the scrolling seems smoother but all browsers are fast until you use them for a day or two.i don't see any noticeable difference though,

I can force the plugin compatibility by typing in the search bar about:config then creating a new compatibility Boolean so getting my addons to work are not a problem either if they don't pass the compatibility check. yeah i like this i think i'll use it for a day or two see how it pans out.

Biggest differences are the security updates (version number) and the nice (small, but useful) features tucked away in the menu.

I forgot to mention that all browsers have been stress tested (for evaluation purposes and just my every day browsing), I load up about 200 tabs and let the browser sit for about 12 hours before checking and writing down the RAM usage and the average cpu consumption.

For everyday use I have anywhere between 50-150 tabs open at any given time and I usually leave my laptop on for days and hardly (if ever) close the browser (only if say youtube looks screwed up i.e. mostly text and links with no video).

I tried out torch last night and it's a great deal more Chrome based than I remember (I believe it was an original browser to begin with) the media grabber doesn't fix the 1080P downloads for youtube. No matter, I have a method to grab each of the streams (audio and video) and then combine (mux) them which syncs everything back up; then I'll demux the audio stream so it's flagged properly, in case I want to add it to a audio playlist.

Once you start using reddit your tab count goes way do because it ends up being the only site you go to get everything. Why search through all my bookmarks for news, sports, porn, videogames, shopping... when I have reddit. :( Kinda sad now that I think about it.

Not sure I ever had 150 sites open at once though, do you block flash to keep memory down?

No at one point I blocked javascript with NoScript but then I realized it was rude to the websites I kept open a lot and adding them all to a whitelist was a hassle. I never could get into reddit or imgur.

I'm a power internet user. I usually have 10-20 or so youtube tabs opened to watch some documentary or music video. Another 10-20 or so for S.T.E.P. topics I like to follow so all I have to do is refresh once in a while. 5 for my major news sources (a fairly recent addition). I also have 10 or 15 websites I frequent to grab images from or what not to help keep my creative juices flowing (and get in the habit of photoshoping, some of them. To keep my self from getting rusty). Then there's Fanfiction, DLP, Overclock.net, Skyrim Nexus and whenever I need it I open my college web portal. Then I also have the privite bitorrent tracker sites I go to open incase someone needs something reseeded and has sent me a message. I like to share the 300 KB/s upload I have. I seed for some of my friends as well since their U/L speed is slower than molasses in winter time, not everybody can have fast upload speeds like some people (looking at your Aiyen)

I think the most I've ever hit was 4.1GB with Waterfox and that was with a back breaking 350 or 400 tabs. I actually switched over to Cyberfox about that time since Waterfox hadn't gotten an update past v18 in several months and the nightlies were on 20 or so already. Cyberfox managed the load better though I think it was around 3.6 or 3.7GB once I let it sit for several hours after closing Waterfox and installing Cyberfox.

Back on topic or more so. Safari and IE have gaping holes security wise (they all have some but it's about how many and how quickly they're noticed and fixed by the developers) though I admit I haven't looked at IE in a while. Chrome performs decently but at the expense of processes (and cpu cycles and threads), and memory. Cyberfox and Waterfox are my happy medium; fast use little in the way of CPU threads and processes. However they have to use a bit more RAM to help compensate. Opera is a bit meh and the main reason I use Chrome instead whenever I just need to open one tab in a browser other than Cyberfox to be able to focus on it alone is because Chrome has more download tools and add-ons so I can do what I need to and close it down more quickly.
