Mod Organizer Feature Request(s)

I didn't see a thread for this so here goes.

 

I keep missing out on some features that'd be really nice to have.

 

1. Keep MO running in the background after I start skyrim. NMM could do it, and when I'm just starting skyrim to see if it CTD's on start, then quitting immediately after, it's annoying that I have to keep reopening MO. If this can't be done for some reason then oh well.

 

2. Export mod list to text file. I don't care about importing, but just exporting to a text file (Maybe make it sortable by category, load order, checked/unchecked, etc) so I can paste it for my friends to see would be pretty cool :)

 

3. Categories kinda suck.

 

 

At a glance, none of this makes any sense. To add in "Followers" to the NPC listing took me at least 15 minutes and it was just playing around with numbers. I don't even know how it came out the way it did. Maybe improve this GUI?

 

 

That's all I've got. If there's already a way to do #1 or 2, lemme know please :)

Yeah you can make new ctaegories by right-clicking on any category name in the window of the image you posted.

Then refresh the installed mod lists in MO, drag the new 'category' (which is thus made as a mod folder) to where you want it and right-click the mod and select 'ignore missing data'.

I think the reason why categories are somewhat strange is because Tannin has tried to make them applicable to all games, not just Skyrim.

Personally I would not call this a category but more of a seperator.  It does have its uses, just make sure you don't accidentally drop mods into the empty folders.  easy mistake to make if you do much manual work inside the mod directories.

I did a short write up on this subject, it can be found at Quick Tip. Mod Organizer feature explained, Manage Categories in MO.

 

After you finish make a backup of categories.dat in the main folder. Next time you install MO copy it back and your categories will be there.

Oh yeah backing up that file is a good idea, thanks GSD. Is there any way to make categories apart of a profile instead of across the whole of MO. I would like if I could set different categories for my different profiles, this would be immensely helpful when STEP packs start getting more popular and we have to test them.

 

At the very least allow for the primary category be local to the profile.

Oh handy, didn't know any of this! Still, would be handy if #1 was a check box option in the options menu like nmm uses. I also failed to notice "Export to CSV" so I'll be using that then :)

if you want to arrange it by mod order, then just run BOSS or Wryebash through Mod Organizer. When you do a bashed patch it keeps a log file of your load order.

Correct but I think (not behind MO PC so can't check) that it contains all your mods. I believe a - or + sign in front of the name signifies if its is active or not.

 

It was on my todo but somehow got motivated this morning;). Out of nowhere in the advanced tab of the MO wiki the section "Mod list separators in the left pane" has appeared.

 

The excellent article by GSDFan is on the wiki since a few days in the advanced tab in the section "Managing Categories"

Afaik this is not possible. See also the Profiles section in the User Interface tab of the wiki. I think Tannin has to rewrite some code to make this possible. Please create a Feature Request ticket for it in issue tracker.  Tannin has mentioned that in V1.0 nothing will be introduced that can break things. Perhaps after an official 1.0 release in the upcoming 1.1 branch this would be a possibility. But of course this is entirely up to Tannin. Though users can vote on the enhancement and feature requests as to signify what the MO community is interested in....

 

Edit: The more the wiki gets fleshed out, the more I'm gonna refer to it. All of the sudden I started hating typing the same information more then once.....

Here's a FR that may already exist (in which case, tell me!):

 

Commandline options for

a) loading a profile

b) launching an executable

 

So I could have a MO shortcut for just launching skyrim through MO and not seeing the MO screen at all, and I could use that on a shared computer to automatically choose the appropriate profile as well.

 

edit: Well I just discovered that b already exists, I'm hopeful that a exists also!
