I've used this mod for about 30 Hours' date=' and don't think I would play without it. From making dragons sound more terrifying and spiders creeper to having arrows whip past your head. I play with sennheiser headphones, so I don't know if that makes a difference, but the video reviews don't reflect the true feel this mod adds.[/quote']

Sorry for going off-topic, but I was actually pondering getting me a set of Sennheiser headphones the other day!

Are those pretty good? They look super comfortable. :D

There are a lot of headphone review sites you can have a look at. Just decide on your budget and stick to it.

Personally I have a pair of Grado SR60 which retail for between £80 and £100. I bought them mainly to use for voice acting work but they make excellent headphones for playing games too.

I haven't tried AOS yet but am looking forward to it for my next playthrough.

I'm using the Sennheiser HD 201, which are the first pair of headphones I got. Super cheap, got mine refurbished for $11. Could be a little more comfortable, but sound is great.

As a heads up, I'm pretty sure the current Climates of Tamriel compatibility patch is in need of an update, as it threw a bunch of errors in TES5Edit for me, so I redid it for my current game.

Sennheiser PC350 here.... You pay quite a bit, but get quality.

Mainly got them because I wanted a pair with a microphone that was not loose, or could be removed etc.

Then again it depends on the money you want to throw after it.... for the price I am happy since they are now running on 4 years I think, and show no sign of getting worse.

Sennheirsers would be great for skyrim in particular, because their mid and high range is just exceptional. I owned a pair of HD 555's for years and they were easily the best pair of headphones I have ever used. A flaw in the senheisers, at least in my model, is that base pretty much doesn't exist. For movies in particular, sounds that aught to be impactful and full sound a bit light and empty. The low range, like for a bassoon or cello are wonderful, but it is not great for movies. Also, for about the same price you can get a decent pair of headphones with gaming features, like positional audio.

Skyrim is almost exclusively mid range sounds, at least to me ear, and nearest I can tell doesn't have much support for positional audo, so I think a pair of senns would be a great fit for our game in particular.

Awesome. That's what I was wondering.

I wanna say money isn't an issue, but it kinda is. But not really. It's a weird situation that would bore people if I tried to explain it.

They are comfortable enough, to forget you're using them, like a good mod. I have walked away from the computer frequently forgetting they're on and had them ripped off my head. To their credit they still look brand spanking new. They were not cheap, (think I payed about 130 Canadian) but well worth it. I used to break 30-50 dollar head phones in a couple months, and they never sounded a tenth this good. Maybe it would have been cheaper to wear diapers while playing skyrim, but in the long term I think I saved money, and rashes.

But back to AOS, some mods add things that aren't in the game in the name of immersion, but for me, that breaks immersion more that adds to it. AOS just changes what is there. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against all other sound mods, I love the bow, crossbow, and horse step sound replacers, they didn't add something, they just made what was there better. That's how AOS is for me, only it's huge in scope. That mod that adds wood peckers, and other perching birds, has sounds added. If I hear the wood pecker I look for it, shoot it, and eat the feathers. This is all good in my strange little mind. Sound mods that add chatter from people that aren't there, to pick their pocket, or sounds in the forest of creatures, I can't hunt, breaks immersion for me. I don't mean immersion in the sense of after a cabbage stew, sweet roll, and ale, I need my character to find a book, stool and bucket, immersion, but rather pulling my mind away from the environment I'm in.

Sorry for the ramble.

For me, I went with a pair of SteelSeries Siberia v2 headphones... love these things to death. Great sound and the price wasn't bad at all.

As for AOS, I like a lot of the changes... not sure I can get used to the arrow sound though. :)

While I agree with this, I have to say I have never heard good bass out of headphones, I think it may be inherent in the design. To that fact I have never heard good mid priced speakers do bass well. All to often people relate distorted bass or volume to being loud. Bass is as much felt, as it is heard. Like a punch in the chest, vibrations in your bones, the air rattling in your lungs. I played bass in bands for more than a decade, making this nothing more than biased opinion.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD202 which were £30 or so but I'm selling them. I wear glasses and they're too uncomfortable as the cups are rather small and tight. Just ordered some AKG K550 for £130 from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-Closed-Back-Reference-Class-Headphones/dp/B005CNR7B0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382861198&sr=8-1&keywords=k550

I borrowed some recently and the difference in quality is amazing. Nice large cups, very comfortable.

The only thing I need to sort now is the soundcard. I'm using onboard at the moment but need to get a proper shielded soundcard as I get a slight buzz from the onboard.

Can you mention that in this thread that I started today?

I run with Sennheiser HD 598s, which I enjoy a great deal. The bass is good, but not incredible; listening to dubstep might require a bit of EQ tuning. Also, you'll probably want to make sure you have a headphone amp. The large soundstage for the 598s is nice for Skyrim, and as an all-purpose set I've been very happy with them.

Not exactly a budget item, but Sennheisers in general tend to be an awesome value proposition. In the absence of a drop in quality, I don't see myself buying any other brand of headphones.
