Question

Hey guys.  I've been a member of this site for months now and a number of you have been extremely helpful.  I am sure you can click my name and see my past posts to get a sense of the issues I have been struggling with.  Ultimately I cannot get my game stable, something always ruins it in the end; I have tried for a quarter of a year now.  Anyways I clearly am incapable of achieving the great stable game a number of you guys are enjoying.  Right now I think the only course of action I have left is to state desired mods and request load order examples from you guys that I can try to copy; this will be the guideline for my last attempt (serious this time) at modding Skyrim.

-Skyre

-Asis

-Immersive Patrols

-Skytest (light or full whatever works)

-Cloaks

-Winter is coming

-Wet and cold

-automatic variants

-Immersive weapons and armour

-High level enemies

-Immersive creatures

-Dragon combat overhaul

Yes I have read Irohas Asis and Skyre guide; while I did achieve stable combat at one point I would randomly freeze in the environment anyway (more freezes/ctds than 1 can be comfortable with).    I have a VERY powerful PC, I have achieved script latecy of under 50, my system memory and video memory remain at very safe levels, this past week I have gone on a massive mod purging (currently under 160 with half of my esps being patches); doesn't matter Skyrim crashes and freezes consistenly.  If any of you have builds accommodating a number of my favorite mods It would be a great help if you would just post your mod list and maybe give a little explanation.

Thanks guys

When I had a mod list like yours, I would randomly crash and freeze all the time as well. If you haven't already, you should definitely check this thread first https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=3319

From what I have learned here on the forums and experienced through a lot of testing/ctd's/freezing in the past 2 months of modding is that

A) extra and random spawns are quite often, probably in the majority of cases, the cause the random freezes in the environment. A lot of stuff that you don't visually see,is occuring in the engine when you got ASIS/SKyTEST/AV & Immersive Creatures/IP on

B) using 2k exterior textures combined with A will increase the strain on the game

C) Wet and Cold is very script intensive (just open the filetree of the mod and see for yourself). I can only speak for myself, but once I disabled that mod (yesterday actually) my already low number of freezes has gone down to zero (after 6 hours of play)

D) even if no mod conflicts, and you seem to have patched a lot, are prevalent, crashes will still occur from time to time in a heavily scripted/extra spawned/2k or higher textured game simply because of the way Skyrim was built

I'd advice you to pick one (or zero) creature mod, no extra spawns and use Get Snowy instead of Wet and Cold.

It seems like you want to do a playthrough, so you could start with graphuic mods at 1k textures / .5k normals, SkyRe and maybe a few other basic mods and/or mods that require a new game (as per the description) and play till lvl 15 or 20. You can use the current SR:LE guide I suppose for a good selection of texture mods that'll make the game look decent.

Then, when that is stable, add a mod (say Immersive Creatures) and continue playing on that character. If not CTD/Freeze then you know SIC is probably safe with your current setup and you can add another mod. If CTD/Freeze then remove SIC (or whatever you added) and try to add another mod. Play again for a few hours etc. etc.

I'd really not start with 150 mods and work down, it's better to move up so you can actually observe what works and what doesn't. Although this is exactly how I did it my first time and it was freeze/CTD all over the place :P

I've said it before and I'll say it again. GET RID OF ASIS! (and High Level Enemies) I don't know anything about Dragon Combat Overhaul so you might could keep it.

Hey Phazer.  Lol yeh you've been saying that for months.  I have tried it without asis and I still ctd.  Something is clearly deeply wrong with my load order...also I love Asis.  Essentially for the week or two without it I was crashing, and I didn't have asis which was double bad.  I know Iroha has a load out that I can only dream about; hopefully he'd be so kind as to post it.

Hey man, I know that feel. In my case it's baseline graphics problems that finally killed me. I don't know whether it's drivers, Skyrim, or what but I can't even get vanilla to run satisfactorily (AA problems, shimmering objects, etc). If I try the usual solutions I just end up with more problems. Radeonpro supposedly changes registry files (not sure if this is true) so now I feel like trying to fix Skyrim has hooped my rig. Wouldn't you know it but I have the same graphical issues, to one extent or another, in every game I have now.

Nothing was wrong with my card or settings BEFORE I got into the deep modding. Makes me miss when I whistled a jaunty tune, clicked through the "this save is reliant on mods no longer installed" warning, added and dropped broken, dirty edited, and snipped mods in Nexus Mod Manager with nary a hiccup in actual gameplay, and so on.

STEP is such a great community when they've seen an issue before or there's an established familiarity with a feature, tool, or mod. Everybody tries to be helpful. There's just black holes in the knowledge about the mechanics of these machines, I guess. Who knows.

Even Bethesda told me to run the game in administrator, close background programs, and update my video drivers. So nobody knows nothing, I feel like. Too bad learning that wrecked my machine.

It sucks doesn't it.  I have invested so much time and I have tasted little bits of the ULTIMATE game; that I keep saying I gotta fix it.  Weeks and weeks go by and then months.

High Level Enemies

Hmmm, what's wrong with HLE?

Phazer is the conservative type, he probably came across a few ppl claiming hle was an issue.  The asis and skyre guide say its safe so I feel the need to get it working.  I know that if you keep skyre enemy scaling and hle its bad news, but I got rid of enemy scaling a LONG time ago.  Im pretty sure its safe.  I have a feeling my issue may be with all those custom patches neovalen instructed us to make...I have updated some mods since then (I usually remove the dated patches by the time I install the new iteration of the mod).  Ofcourse this is just brainstorming; I feel like a significant portion of my daily routine is brainstorming solutions to my Skyrim **** storm.

You know what mate you keep coming back here asking for help with the same damn questions and you don't take anyone's advice. If you're not going to at least try the things we tell you then don't bother asking. I'm done!

? I didn't mean to offend you.  And like I said I already tried disabling Asis for a period of over two weeks. Also I've essentially tried everything that's been suggested over my tenure on this site. I'm not asking anyone to go over my mod list or wrack their brain over my problems, I just want some examples of working load orders with the mods that I like.

Hey man. I was just wondering what you think about these mods and their stresses on the engine...is it script related or memory related?

Cheers

Could be directed at me? I keep wondering when people are gonna get tired of my ****.

Hilariously, I switched HDMI ports on my tv-monitor and it has helped mitigate some of the problems I was having. This is something that I did by accident and it NEVER would have occurred to me normally. Before switching, videocard settings seemed to have little effect on display quality but now everything is working as it's supposed to.

Fair enough.

My guess is that your issues are script related. Have you made sure that no patches are needed for the mods to work nicely together? TES5Edit is used for this but it's a more advanced skilled.

Is the convenient horse script test unreliable?  With my mod list (I followed step but excluded major script 1's like frostfall/realistic needs etc) my script latency never jumped over 60.  Yeh My current load order is patched to death, its essentially about 150 mods and half of it is patches.  Skyre unofficial patches, fcqt skyre patches, balbor patches, lots and lots of patches.  I loved Irohas thread about Skyre and Asis; I followed it word for word and I managed to kill all my combat ctds.  The strange thing about my issues is that when I fix something, something else happens.  General combat ctds cured?  Dragon ctds start; Dragon ctds cured?  Ctd on load screen.  Honestly my intention for this thread was not to bother ppl with brain storming, just get some load orders posted so I could get some general ideas of what works and doesn't work for my next attempt from scratch.

Lol really?  You have stranger issues than me even.  Have you checked Neovalens revisted and normal step sections about amd cards?  Are you using an ENB?  You really want to make sure you dont have the same effects manipulating your game from multiple sources Eg.  If your using anti aliasing from an enb make sure you have it disabled in your skyrim settings and your amd driver settings.

Man, I've done it all. I was following SR to begin with and because I was unused to vanilla, I didn't even notice the problems I had until I was done an SR install. Then I stripped everything down to vanilla and some weird issues, especially with hair meshes (or something) remained. Same with the texture/shadow shimmering. The shadow stuff is just some .ini tweak issues (tweaks I never did since joining STEP but used to use before) that I experimented with and sorted out.

None of the stuff STEP or Neo say about AMD cards seems to do much good. I have to override with CCC to make AA work at all, otherwise it's glittering specular maps and jaggies like the day is long. I've posted robustly about the issues I've had and received a lot of friendly advice and tips, but very little of it panned out.

Nearox has the same card so his knowledge and experience have been invaluable.

hmmmm...honestly how many tweaks are you inis?  my unofficial guardian angel on this forum (aiyen) is VERY adamant that ini tweaks only trampell your game.  Try resetting your inis to default then just do the mild papyrus tweaks Neovalen suggests.  Barring that you may just have to uninstall and reinstall an attempt to remod like I will be tomorrow (4 days of vacation :D).  Neovalen did NOT lead me astray when it comes to how the world looks.  I don't even notice 1 graphical anomaly with the revisited build; cant imagine how annoying it is for u :S

Default shadow settings are a problem so far. As a result, I'm trying some .ini tweaks for just that to try and reduce the last baseline graphical problem I have: flickering med. distance shadows.
