Question

I'm getting an error "Fatal: Could not find ini" when running the textgen.exe. I did move my Steam and MO folders to a different hard drive a few weeks ago and am just now updating my Skyrim mod list. I'm having trouble finding out how to fix this, does anyone have ideas?

Probably a user error somewhere along the way, but I did the standalone, then the resources (I did resources through Vortex, bad idea?) and then I downloaded the Skyrim SE DLL. I put that in the SKSE folder, and copied DynDOLOD to a new folder in the C drive just like it said. When I double click either TexGen or DynDOLOD exes, I get this error that says current mode is TES5 (which can't be right, since it should be for SE) and then it reads this:

[00:00:00.016]    TexGen based on xEdit (09BC7F1E) starting session 2020-06-12 17:46:33
[00:00:00.016]    Game Mode: TES5

[00:00:00.031]    Using Skyrim Data Path:
[00:00:00.031]    Using Scripts Path: C:\DynDOLOD\Edit Scripts\
[00:00:00.031]    Using Cache Path:
[00:00:00.047]    Using Temp Path: C:\Users\radio\AppData\Local\Temp\TES5Edit\
[00:00:00.054]    Using ini:
[00:00:00.054]    Fatal: Could not find ini

I'm guessing I missed something. I followed the instructions here: https://forum.step-project.com/topic/13894-dyndolod-beta-for-skyrim-special-edition-and-skyrim-vr-282/ and I have successfully done the SSEELODgen and vanilla billboards.

Please help T_T

From DynDOLOD_QuickStart.html:

By default the tools start in Skyrim mode, which is the same as adding the -tes5 command line parameter. Add -sse as a command line parameter to DynDOLOD.exe/DynDOLODx64.exe or TexGen.exe/TexGenx64.exe to start the tools in Skyrim Special Edition mode. Add -tes5vr as a command line parameter to DynDOLOD.exe/DynDOLODx64.exe or TexGen.exe/TexGenx64.exe to start the tools in Skyrim VR mode. Add -enderal as a command line parameter to DynDOLOD.exe/DynDOLODx64.exe or TexGen.exe/TexGenx64.exe to start the tools in Enderal mode in case the Steam version is used. See DynDOLOD-Shortcut.txt for help.

You are starting the tools in Skyrim (TES5) game mode instead of Skyrim Special Edition (SSE) or Skyrim VR (TES5VR) game mode. Read the included install instructions.

By default the tools start in Skyrim mode, which is the same as adding the -tes5 command line parameter. Add -sse as a command line parameter to DynDOLOD.exe/DynDOLODx64.exe or TexGen.exe/TexGenx64.exe to start the tools in Skyrim Special Edition mode. how do i do with with mo2

See DynDOLOD-Shortcut.txt for help.

Refer to the documentation or help forum/discord of the mod manager you are using if you have questions about it.

i did write -sse in the arguments but still the same issue

If the log still says Skryim and TES5, then obviously the command line argument was not set correctly.

If the log says something else, then it is a different issue.

I am having a problem when I run TexGenx64 and DynDOLODx64 through MO2.

They can't find their way to Skyrim.ini

I have the Official Skyrim Special Edition installed (Steam License)

I read everything about SSE in the Doc folder, read many forums on this topic, watched many videos on this topic, but still I don't understand what the problem is.

Here's what it produces after launch:

Read the error messages, which say that xEdit/xLODGen/DynDOLOD can not find the standard Windows Documents\My Games\ folder and thus could not find the Skyrim.INI

On normal Windows installations it would be c:\Users\[username]\Documents\My Games\

Programs use a standard Windows function (SHGetSpecialFolderPath) to retrieve the actual paths of such standard system folders.

Could also be because of Windows UAC, AntiVir or some other crapware blocking access.

It is possible that it can not find the folder because of special foreign characters in the username. If that is the case, test what happens when starting latest SSEdit 4.0.3 from https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/164

Though it has no problem finding the AppData folder...

Read the install instructions in the included manual again. They state to not install DynDOLOD into game or Steam folders:

From the DynDOLOD Standalone archive copy the content of the 'DynDOLOD' folder, which contains the files DynDOLOD.exe, TexGen.exe, DynDOLOD_QuickStart.html and the sub folders 'Docs' and 'Edit Scripts' with all their content into a new 'DynDOLOD' folder outside of special OS folders like 'Programs Files' or 'Program Files (x86)', the SteamApps or game folders and Mod Organizers virtual file structure. Do not mix with old versions or xEdit/xLODGen installation.

Thank you very much for your reply and help. Everything worked after I added the Skyrim folder to the exceptions of my antivirus and firewall.

Read the included manual where and how to install DynDOLOD and how to start the tools in the desired game mode.

Add -enderalse as a command line parameter to DynDOLOD.exe/DynDOLODx64.exe or TexGen.exe/TexGenx64.exe to start the tools in Enderal SE mode in case the Steam version is used.
