CovertSlinky Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) Just noticed this bit of news in my Steam activity page. I am about to try this out. Bored at the minute, this is free, so what the hey! Anyone else notice this? Anyone try it out? Thoughts? Edit: Thought a link with further info might be useful, since I am reading it myself. Creation Club is geared toward the Xbox user. You've been able to achieve these same results with mods on the PC for a long time.
Greg Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will get to experience Survival Mode and other Creations early next month. Both PC and console players will get Survival Mode free for one week once it launches on their preferred platform.I hope this does not mean Steam is sneaking this into the game when we least expect it.
hishutup Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I feel that the script additions will be a nice addition and something like frostfall can use them to potentially provide a higher quality product.
theblackman Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I opted in to the beta but haven't played it yet. Might try it this evening. Here's a first impression from someone: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/6027068-survival-mode-thoughts/ Another Bethesda facepalm moment however: it costs $8, but you can only buy credits packs for $7.50 and $15... theblackman Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Merge Plugins. Free.AFAIK, Survival mode is free for the earlybirds. But you can't merge to zero and for us hardcore extreme modders, every esp slot saved means more modded goodness in the game!
TechAngel85 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Well, to be fair it's unlikely I would play such an option or equivalent modded experience. Simply because it would take a lot of time to play and get enjoyment from it. I barely have time to play a regular modded game.
CovertSlinky Posted September 29, 2017 Author Posted September 29, 2017 Well, after giving it a quick look over. Sounds a whole hell of a lot like a couple popular mods tossed together. Creation Club is geared toward the Xbox user. You've been able to achieve these same results with mods on the PC for a long time.Precisely the idea, but they are WAY off from being anything more than maybe proof of concept imo. I mean the basic functionality of the idea is in place, and crudely implemented imo. It needs more detail to be brought into it. So yeah, the available mods you can currently use to achieve this idea and more, puts this out of it's misery. I feel that the script additions will be a nice addition and something like frostfall can use them to potentially provide a higher quality product. Would free up a couple of esp slots, no...?This was precisely my thinking while I played it. So, hopefully if nothing else (probably nothing else, lol), it could serve useful to the modding community. I opted in to the beta but haven't played it yet. Might try it this evening. Here's a first impression from someone: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/6027068-survival-mode-thoughts/ Another Bethesda facepalm moment however: it costs $8, but you can only buy credits packs for $7.50 and $15... That person pretty much sums up what I saw. However, the mode is free, you have to log into the creation club ingame and then "buy" it. But it holds a 0 credit tag on it. So not sure where the $8 comes from. Well, to be fair it's unlikely I would play such an option or equivalent modded experience. Simply because it would take a lot of time to play and get enjoyment from it. I barely have time to play a regular modded game. Yeah me too. If I said it slows the game pace down, it would be an understatement. The idea is very immersive, which I am all about. But it gets a lil too serious for me, and becomes more of a chore imo. I live that already, lol. I do not need chores when I am trying to decompress from my work. LOL, I guess to be fair, modding skyrim is exactly that a alot of times too.... but, to not mod skyrim!?... no, just no.

baronaatista Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 The lack of thirst in a survival mod is a strange design decision, and as far as I know these things aren't really supposed to be updated the way mods are (unless, I suppose a bug got past testing). Hadn't thought though that elements of it could be used for a more fully developed mod. I believe it's not confirmed but seems highly likely that this mod is Chesko's work, or at least he was involved in its development; would be very interesting if he returned to the modding community to finish it off. I quite like most of the functionality that I've seen, particularly the drain on fatigue when carrying too much crap, which is a nice light feature I've been looking for in a survival mod for a while.
TechAngel85 Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I believe it's not confirmed but seems highly likely that this mod is Chesko's work, or at least he was involved in its development...This was my thoughts, exactly. He got in on the paid mods. I had no doubts he would try to get in on the Creation Club. If this isn't his work, whoever did it might as well copied it.
CovertSlinky Posted September 29, 2017 Author Posted September 29, 2017 (edited) Kinda explained here.I appreciate your efforts to enlighten me. But I still see no proof of this being a paid for mod. And two different prices are being thrown around. Is $8 or $15? I logged back into the Creation Club to see if I missed a detail. I did not. However, it states "100% OFF", so this could lead others to believe it has a price tag waiting to be revealed. That is plausible, but still holds no proof of what that price could/would be. I guess we will have to wait and see. But if it can get confirmed that Chesko is in someway (I would prefer he be lead man on it) behind this, which I do hold my doubts, I might find myself paying for it. But regardless of how I feel about Chesko as a modder, in this circumstance he would not be a modder of this product, but a developer. And as with any product I buy, I would evaluate in my own opinion if it is worth the price tag, whatever that may or may not be. Edit: After further reading, I do see where the two different prices come from. It is believed it will be a 800 credit price at some point. So with the current credit price this figures into $8. However, you can not just buy 800 credits, the minimum is 750, so you would need to atleast spend $15 to have enough credits to cover the cost. How very microtransaction-ey that would be of them is this holds true. Can not say that I would be or am surprised. Edited September 29, 2017 by CovertSlinky

And two different prices are being thrown around. Is $8 or $15? The reason people are throwing around two figures is that if you want to buy it after the free period, you have to spend the equivalent of $15 in Bethesda currency to buy it. If they'd priced it at $7.50 it would match the minimum spend. That's what I understand anyway. If Chesko is behind it, he's already been paid as a developer, contract now complete.
Guest Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 You guys slacking? Thought this was a few days old now? :P To be honest though, I seem to hear about these things and I don't even follow the community much anymore. Weird. @Tech @baron You are giving professional scripters that are paid to do this very little credit. They could probably have this done and dusted in a few weeks max. If it was Chesko, then he should be ashamed of himself. You don't willingly join the darkside. On another similar note: Why do so many people enjoy these micromanagement mods? It's not even close to being The Sims -- which I actually used to not mind back in the day. This stuff always becomes a negative with reviewers and mainstream gamers. I know encumbrance and weapon repair systems are equally offensive to quite a few people. Is there not a thing as too much realism in games? Personally my kryptonite is dark nights in games. I can have dark nights in real life and it's not a nice experience then. You either get stung by nettles/brambles or lose your footing on inclines without a torch. In games you get animal attack jump scares and can't find the loot. :P
