Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback

Recommended Posts

but then again, I've only had one other person confirm this. so maybe I'm just totally wrong.

I just installed the 5.0 versions and can only confirm Hearthfire for you.

DG and DB each have 125+ unique files left.

Just to venture on a guess here, check your folder sizes ?

DG should be about 360MB / DB about 570MB, if you extracted the BSA's that is.

Mod Organizer does not recognize subfiles downloaded from a modpage and will name it the same as the main mod, maybe you accidentily forgot to rename one or two of the installations ? just a suggestion :)

my explorer shows:

my installation of tony's dawnguard optimized (unpacked bsa) = 361 mb (99 folders & 2801 files)

my installation of tony's dragonborn optimized (unpacked bsa) = 574 mb (99 folders & 8862 files)

my mod organizer shows that they are redundant when compared to the official HRTP's (also unpacked). then eventually some of the textures are also overridden by other mods as well.

Yeah, I noticed that mod's files for the first 3 dlc's are completely redundant if you have the original HRTP's (see my comment below yours on the mod page). That wasn't the case with 4.1. There def seems to be some issues with this update. Maybe I'll have to stop being lazy and actually optimize the files myself, as neo's guide suggests :P

The HRDLC includes some textures that are the same as ones in the 3 DLC. These duplicate textures happen to include all the DLC textures that are typically recommended for optimization.  If the optimized HRDLC includes these textures then there is no need to have separate optimized textures from the 3 DLC; the DLC BSAs themself are still needed, of course. This is also mentioned in the Skyrim DDSopt Quick Start guide. Some of the mods with optimized vanilla textures separate the DLC textures into separate files.  The STEP optimized vanilla BSAs use a single file so this isn't an issue. Typically users can use at least one of the the three mods with already optimized vanilla textures; instructions are provided for those who might want to do this manually.

Neo, for aMidianborn Solsteim Landscape you advise to not install certain texture files. I understand the reason for not installing files that you'd rather have High Resolution DLC handle, but isn't it pointless to remove textures to be handled by Serious HD since Serious HD is loaded after aMidianborn Solsteim Landscape? I realize this is potAYto/potAHto, but for the sake of continuity could I revise those Special Installation Instructions? (By continuity I mean that while installing all of the other mods in your guide, it does not appear that you normally advise to not install any files that will eventually be overridden by other mods.)

Fixed to include only the files that actually need deleted. No need to actually update anything if you previously installed otherwise.

and while I'm at it: can I add the STEP 2.2.9 Skyrim Realistic Overhaul warning to your guide (the warning about which download button should be clicked)?

and also a note about Tony's current Optimized Textures files (of which some are redundant and also that, if using his files, the official HRTP's should not be removed because his HRTP's don't include all of the files)?

(I might as well ask all at once instead of one at a time - try to save you some time :;): )

Warning added. Will take a look at Tony's 5.0 soon, I had no issues with the old version.

Does SR LE need its own MCM menu now? (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/62613/?) I'm not sure what it would do, but everything goes better with MCM! :woot:

It couldn't hurt... click me to setup other peoples mods. (That would be a huge pain to maintain...)

So it seems like Tony's new files are more in line with STEP's in that optimizing the first 3 DLC's is redundant. Whereas the STEP DDSOpt guide mentions this, Tony has not done so. And I think a lot of people don't realize this issue because they either keep the bsa's intact (and MO is for some reason showing 1 unconflicted file for the bsa's and therefore no redundancy symbol), or because they have deleted their official HRDLC thinking that the optimized version contains every file (in which case some of the files from the first 3 optimized DLC's slide through unchallenged).

Anyway, other than being similar to STEP in regards to the first 3 DLC's, Tony does appear to use different constraints and there have been a couple of mentions about some visual issues with his new files. So I may end up giving STEP's texture optimization guide a whirl. Thanks so much Kelmych!

Regarding Tony's files, I didn't have any problems with any of his old files being redundant, either, so thanks for being willing to check out his new ones. I just want to make it clear that only his DG HF & DB files appear redundant when compared to the Official HRDLC (not just Tony's Optimized HRDLC files - which have fewer files). And regarding that issue, I think that Tony's Optimized HRDLC files are smaller because they probably do not include any unprocessed files from the Official HRDLC (likely due to legalities). So anyone using his Optimized HRDLC files might not want to delete their Official HRDLC bsa's as your guide suggests, since they will lose about 1000 Official HRDLC files (of course, that number would end up smaller when any of those textures happen to be provided by other mods - which I haven't looked into that deep yet).

Thanks so much for including that warning about the torrent buttons. I'm hoping it might help others who, like me, had never dealt with torrent-y stuff before and ended up clicking some WAY wrong buttons! :P

(yes, that was plural. buttonSSS. I spazzed out and clicked a few. maybe all over the page.)

And as for the aMidianBorn stuff - I'm sure there are more important things on your list, but thanks anyway for tending to the minutiae!

When I install Weapons and Armor Fixes Should I only choose Install all Options (default),  or should I also choose the Compatibility Patches

Install all Options (default) has my vote

As always, the guide has the answer... No compatibility patches, the ones in the installer are old. Went ahead and updated the guide to the new format for more clarity though.

Optionals(Via Installer):

  • Skyrim + Dawnguard + Dragonborn
  • Install All Options

I can't make it into Helgen in the vanilla start without the wolves going into combat with Hadvar causing him to skip the intro.

Argh.

That's odd, I did a vanilla start recently and I had no issues other than an immersive patrol of Dawnguard members walking in front of the cart but it all worked out ok.

Yes, I always get the Dawnguard patrol.  (Very rarely will the cart run over their dog.) About 25-50% of the time I get ~2 wolves spawning with the deer that races across the path - Hadvar sees them, dismounts, fights them, but then just stands there as his scripted AI has no instructions what to do if he ever gets off his horse before reaching Helgen. I got three wolves in a row this evening and was fed up with it.

Never seen that one. Have seen Lokir falling off the cart once before, and often see the Dawnguard. Once died cause of Frostfall, which I'd not had happen before...

But I tend to use the camping in the woods start. Nearly always get a useful magic ring in that start. Nice little kick along.

I have a question concerning the language settings in skyrim.

On the last holiday sale I bought the Skyrim LE, because I didn't play Skyrim for almost 2 years and also didn't have the DLC's yet.

I wanted to create a STEP-profile but then I found Neo's great guide, and thought "man, this looks even better". :woot:

So i made a clean installation, set up all the tools and am now more or less halfway through the guide. ::):

But now I was thinking that maybe it could be a problem that my game was automatically installed in German. Steam doesnt ask in which language you want it installed, but just chooses the language of your country automatically. So I didnt think about this problem at all... ::|:

I'm asking myself what the effects would be, if I leave the language setup like this. Would the game basically be in German, with only the additional content (like Lost Library, Falskaar, etc.) in english (which would be fine by me!), or will there be massive bugs, CTD's and the like?

If now I would download and install the english language pack (in the middle of my mod setup), would it change essential aspects of the already modded setup? I would love to avoid having to repeat all the work of the last days

As I understand it MO doesn't really change the Vanilla game files, so I was hoping that changing the language during the mod setup could be possible.

Would it help if I set the language to english only in the skyrim.ini of the Skyrim Revisited profile?

Does somebody here has experience with this problem, or maybe even plays Skyrim Revisited in another language?

If not, maybe someone at least can make a more educated guess than me? :;):

Anyone else having problems brawling Mikael in the Bannered Mare? I can successfully brawl Uthgaard down by the stables. But when doing Carlotta's favor quest and I brawl Mikael I win, he goes to his knees, says 'you sure can throw a punch' (or something like that) but then stands up and when I talk to him he is back in the regular conversation choices (including giving me all the options for Carlotta's quest). He never says he will leave her alone after the brawl.

Does anyone know how to manually advance the quest A Few Words with You (aka Favor13) (either via brawl or persuade) so I can just get him to submit and clear out the quest?

EDIT - Well fourth (or fifth?) time's a charm - either that or being very careful not to get any extra blows in on him after the one needed to knock him down.
