Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback

Neo

I just wanted to say that Ive finished my SR:LE install following your guide.  I wont lie and say it was plain sailing (i am a modding noob afterall) but all of my questions got answered here when I got stuck or i found the answers with simple searches.  It took me a while, 2 weeks on and off with work and r/l kicking in now and then, but:

the results are astounding, for me at least anyhow.  Skyrim looks drop dead gorgeous and the ENB makes water look so amazing, I really had no idea how this game could look.  All those mods add a little more immersion here and there and the complete package is very very impressive.  Thank you for taking the time to test it all and to write the guide.  My 2 weeks pales in comparison to your obvious work (and depressingly your understanding of what goes on below the hood of Skyrim)

I cannot say I have ventured far yet.  Two joyful evenings playing with the first taken up setting up MCM and then wondering how half the mods worked and fiddling with keybindings etc. The second evening saw me venture into Embershard Mine have an awesome time with my lvl 1 charcater and start learning to craft etc.

What i then discovered was a harsh lesson of Skyrim with immersion.  Forgetting all about Frostfall I set off to bleak falls barrow and after fighting 2 or 3 bandits at the small tower realised i was freezing to death.  I got my campfire out and then it dawned on me i had no wood.  Things went down hill from there.  no axe to gather wood.  panic.  ran down the mountain and in my haste swam across the river and almost froze to death.  warming back up, barely alive, tail between my legs in the Sleeping Giant Inn was a palpable relief.

Tomorrow, im preparing properly, crafting some pouches to hold more, gathering more wood and food and then going back to the barrow.  this is exciting.  It feels so much more like an adventure where there are implications to foolhardy actions.  Skyrim feels at once jaw droppingly beautiful and at the same time threatening.    Just wow.

Thank you again for this guide, I finally get to just "play" Skrim the way i always hopes and dreamed it could be.

@Heliadhel

Glad you are enjoying the game :D

@James4832

Maybe? It depends on how it fleshes out between now and then. There are some annoying bugs still. Well, either that or I need to learn to edit PaMa XML files...

@All:

In a bit of a conundrum here, apparently Dagi-Raht and Realistic Aspen Trees were both pulled from the nexus. I found a new download for Realistic Aspen Trees and updated the guide, no luck on finding a mirror for the UNP textures for Dagi-Raht.

So questions:

1) SFO 2.0e has upgraded LODs but Realistic Aspen Trees has not yet been updated. Not sure what to do in the interim, but I think the SFO LOD is superior even with the color mismatch... at least I dont notice the issue at uGrids 9.

2) i think the alternative to Dagi-Raht is not as good but its all I can find: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11400/?, Beast races need some real love. Should i just update the guide to use this instead?

You could simply leave Dagi-Raht in the guide as is but place the alternative after and say to use Dagi-Raht if you have it. Was there a reason stated as to why they were pulled?

Supposedly there is an "updated" version coming at an unknown date in the future. Ofc that has been said before and the page has been up/down several times over the last year.

I also just got a response from AceeQ about an update for Realistic Aspen Trees:

Will you be updating Realistic Aspen Trees for the new SFO 2.0e?

No there will be no more updates.

So unfortunately its either live with the mismatching LOD or remove realistic aspen trees.

I hate when quality stuff gets abandoned and becomes out of date.

Realistic Aspen Trees gone, Vurt stating we shouldn't expect any more updates... perhaps carefully look into Tamriel Reloaded Flora ? :), not as a replacemnt for Vurts Flora Overhaul mind you, but if there is a wish for added variety it might have something to offer ?

That brings me back to an old question concerning variety  :) Did you ever consider Automatic Variants Neo ? was hoping for your appreciated opinion on that mod.

If your talking about the green notice on vurts page that has been there since before 2.0 alpha came out... lol :D I think he can't get away. I'll take a look at Tamriel Reloaded Flora anyway though.

Automatic Variants used to be part of SR:LE before the revamp, it's a good mod but at that point we didn't have the memory patch / enboost... so I may look at it again eventually.

Hi Neo,

I just check Project Parallax Remastered page. I know that we are using SRO version, but there were update a while ago for SMIM Bridge 1-74 update and Stonewall Update. Do we need those files at all?

Especially, Stonewall Update that add stone wall parallax meshes. I tested them in game.

Thanks for a great guide.

SMIM Bridge update is already included in SR:LE. I'll relook at the stonewall update.

Ok, if you want an enhanced vanilla feel, with OTT perk trees and very fiddly install but also increased difficulty (though not very increased difficulty) then go with SkyRe.

If you want an easier time of the install and a more demanding and challenging game then go with Requiem (obviously my preference).

I actually like SkyRe but the compatibility issues and installation issues make it a headache for me but I do like a lot of the features. I find that Requiem works really well with SR:LE adding challenge and plenty of surprises. The only current drawback is the latest version of Requiem is not compatible with previous versions and so many of the patches need updating. In particular the one for Dragonborn. This can be worked around though. Alternatively if you follow the guide in the Requiem pack and use the previous version of Requiem 1.73 then it will all work out of the box so to speak. If you have followed SR:LE then you will be using BOSS and so rules for that are included in the Requiem guide. If you use LOOT then well you will need to build a compatibility patch to ensure key features of the mod are carried through. This would be true for a SkyRe build as well.

Anyway that is my almost, but not completely un-biased opinion.

Thanks, Neo. I looked at Project Parallax's nexus thread. Osmodius indicated that the stonewall update is needed for SRO version as well. I looked in MO, the stonewall update added several new mesh files without conflict.

Alright, note added about alternate for Dagi-Raht and Realistic Aspen Trees removed. It looks like Vurt added a little bit of variation on the aspens but not nearly as much as that mod, but it had to be removed.

Hi Neo,

I think that the Tree Fixes for SFO 2.0 and Bigger Tress mod might be a better solution the the above mentioned issue with LODs.

You need both Main file (fixes some floating trees) and the "non-SBT" optional.

There is also a recent reply of the author to a comment of mine.

Let me have your thoughts on this mod!

Thanks!  ::):
