Random Infinite loading screen, random CTDS, please someone shot me

Question

Posted (edited)

hi guys,

Another newbie here... After 30 hours or so with a plain vanilla installation, i did the crazy error of looking for videos of skyrim in youtube.

THEN I DISCOVERED MODS xD

So... i first tried a STEP Extended installation, from zero, point by point. Something messed up in between and i decided to start again.

But it was interesting, i learnt about MO, TES5edit, Wrye Bash, ENB... etc...

So... i discovered SRLE by my now personal hero, neovalen. So... a week later, 30 hours installing mods and learning a lot of new things.

My Skyrim only loaded 2 pair of floating eyes on screen. Reading forums here and there... I decided to start all over again with a basic STEP.

So here i am. Finished a new Step Extended installation. I did it point by point, no modifications by my part except at the end, where i

did not install: Dual Sheath, and FNIS, as i understand is optional, and don't want to overcomplicate things.

Already done dyndolod (i think it worked ok, no errors at least, generated a ~600mb compressed file), bashed patch, loot sorting, etc...

Well... first i started to get random infinite loading screens, 1 of 4 approximately loaded the intro and start moving the carriage, but when it reached the village, CTD....

I checked all inis, checked errors in loot, nothing, used wrye bash againg to rebuild the patch, etc... nothing.

So i decided to skip the intro and installed Alternate start. Again, loot, bash, etc... Then launch the game.

It works. Skyrim load, i go out, walk, etc... But when i try to look the map, CTD...

So it seems something is bad here... I looked here and there, rechecked all things, installed memoryblocklogs (it seems ok), etc...

I simply don't want to spend another pair of days. I already spent 50 hours modding without playing, and i simply start to feel too stupid....

Please if someone can give me a hand, i'll be thankful.

My machine is a new i5 with 8gb ram, a geforce 610 with 2gb Vram, a samsung SSD, etc... I think it's ok for running a simple ENB maybe.

I can attach the inis, if anyone want to help. Just tell me if i attach here, or use any external service, etc...

Thanks anyone.

Also tons of thanks to STEP people, and SRLE author. I simply can't understand how these people could write these guides. The inmense work needed must be insane.

Also, sorry my english i am spanish.

Well, if you installed XMPS Skeleton, then you need to install FNIS and run it. Dual Sheath Redux is a lot less complicated than DynDOLOD, but to each there own. :^_^: Install and run FNIS first to ensure you have the right setup for that.

Hi, if you are new to modding (trust me, you'll spend more than a week modding your game, some (maybe most) of us here spend more (waaay more) time modding the game than actually playing it).

I think the first and most precious advice is "go slowly", even when the STEP guide is very well done, don't try to install everything at once, try to go (hence the name I suppose) step by step. I.e. install/configure everything in the step 1, then run the game, see if it behaves normally, then proceed to step 2, if not, revisit the step 1, perhaps you missed something.

Step 2 is the hardest part, test the game everytime you complete a section, this way you can filter where the problem started to happen.

Installing all at once can be as overwhelming as counterproductive, also, make sure to read each and every "detailed information" related to each mod.

As for CTDs and longer/infinite loadscreens, make sure you make the right changes in the skse.ini and enboost.ini, detailed information can be found here

and here

That's the most "CTD/infinite loading" topic I can think of right now.

P.D. I also speak spanish, so if it's easier for you, we can always talk through PMs.

Thanks everyone for answers,

I did not install XMPS (sorry i forgot it in my first post). As i had problems with previous 2 installations, this time, i installed everything i think it "wasn't" complex for the game to use, so i installed all textures, meshes, and so. When i reach modifying animations i skipped XMPS (optional) and so i didn't install FNIS or Dual sheath. But if you think install these 3 this could be fixed, i'll try.

Also, i tried to used ENB with effects. So, i disabled AA in my nvidia config, using nvidia inspector (as used in the guide). And disabled AA in skyrim inis, and enable effects in ENB (UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false , UseDefferedRendering=true). Maybe this is the problem and something is bad with my ENB<>NVIDIA.

@hackfield: you are right, this time i installed everything fast, as i had previous experience with my STEP and SRLE. It's a good idea to try the game, step by step and keep adding stuff then. Thanks for the links.

I'll post here my inis, if you see something bad just tell me.

Btw, i installed the game in c:\skyrim.

Of course i run the game from MO using SKSE, also tried using the param -forcesteamloader in the SKSE configuration in MO, but didn't work.

What this really puzzles me is that CTDS and infinite loading are randoms. Using alternate star always work, but if disable it then i start geeting again random I.L.S.

ENBLocal.ini (using wrapper version), the 3 files are in c:\skyrim

(a little question, why in this file the dll is called other_d3d9.dll if the file is really d3d9.dll ?)

  Reveal hidden contents

SKSE.ini, installed in C:\skyrim\mods\skse 1 07 03\SKSE

  Reveal hidden contents

Memoryblogslog.txt, in my overwrite folder

  Reveal hidden contents

Skyrim.ini, in C:\skyrim\profiles\step core\, but i modify it using MO

  Reveal hidden contents

Skyrimprefs.ini, in the same folder as skyrim.ini

  Reveal hidden contents

Thanks!

That's called a proxy, it's used to load several d3d9.dll binaries. It's commonly used for those ENB presets that make use of SweetFX (a post-process suite) to enhance colors, dithering or just applying SMAA (anti-alias)

You use the d3d9.dll of ENB, and rename the SweetFX d3d9.dll to "other_d3d9.dll", ENB then loads its own dll followed by the SweetFX dll.

[THREADS]

DataSyncMode=1
PriorityMode=0
EnableUnsafeFixes=false
I'd change this to

DataSyncMode=0

for now, you can play with it once you know your game behaves properly

You said you have a Geforce gtx 610, but this setting is telling Skyrim that you have a gtx950, did you copy this ini from someone else? That's kind of important, I'd reset the ini files (delete both inis and run skyrimlauncher.exe), then make the necessary changes again.

This is probably the cause of most of your problems.

>sD3DDevice="NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950"

wow!!

what is this? no, i created inis from zero.

my nvidia drivers "364.72-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql.exe " are detecting my gfx cards as gtx 950?

i've never thought in this, and i never had problems with nvidia drivers.

maybe i need clean up? i upgraded my windows 8.1 to 10 some months later...

will check this and report back,

thanks hackfield!

edit: driver cleaned with ddu, reinstall, all ok now, rechecked and is ok

changed datasyncmode in enblocal as you said, but this didn't fixed anything, still the same problems.

i tried disabling enb effects with UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=true in enblocal.ini and it seems to work a bit more than with effects. But

still random CTDs.

Also i was thinking, maybe the CTDS are related to my mouse going of my main monitor (with skyrim) and free moving in the secondary one?

playing vanilla this doesn't happens, the mouse just stay inside the skyrim full screen. I've read in forums and installed one patch mod to fix this mouse behaviour, but it does nothing, the mouse still goes out to secondary. Very annoying.

I've spent the afternoon running this, i am thinking to try a 4th reinstall? oh god.

i've been working with pc for 30 years, been working as it support, programmer, db, web, etc,etc... This is ridiculous, i feel dumb :D hahaha

The mouse thing is cause you added the bBackgroundMouse tweak to Skyrim.ini which is not recommended, merely useful in some circumstances.

Do you have a gt610 or gtx 950? That makes a huge difference.

Doubleyou: thanks, thanks and thanks!

uLockedObjectMapLOD removing fixed all my loading problems and the random CTDs (by now, i played the intro, then use an alternate star, to try another zones, and everything is ok), except one minor bug, the map.

Also  bBackgroundMouse , fixed my mouse problems ;)

Now the map, as per STEP instructions i installed a quality world map (the version and options as in the guide).

I have it at number 59 and it conflict with 1 file (dlc2solstheimworld.32.0.0.dds) in unmanaged dragonborn and unmanaged HRTpack2.

Also i have HQ3dmap - meshes hi-res at number 40, and HQ3dMap - normals original at 41. (installed in the step guide order), just as in the guide. (no conflicts)

Accesing the map anytime just gives me a instant CTD.

I checked the mods pages, specially the references to ulockedterrainlod, fmapworldtransitionheight and smapcloudnif (in AQWM), and all is ok

If i disable this 3 mods in MO, i keep having CTDS when i try to use the map. So i think the problem is other...

Btw, i downloaded spini, and used it, hit ultra mode, check enb, and tried again. It keeps working :D (i thought it was going to CTD for all the changes in the ini, but it seems it knows what i does). I'll keep the backup of the inis.

Thanks you for let me solving nearly all problems, only the map is driving me crazy...

Yes. I mean, anytime i try to use the map (in the menu), ctd. If i don't use Alternate Start, and try the usual Skyrim beginning, once i am free of the intro, and try the map, CTD. If i use Alternate start, just when it start in the prison and try to see the map, CTD

Any tip?
