need further DDS OPT understanding...
Quahogs replied to Quahogs's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Rank has its privileges ! I followed NEO's SR by rote so I have everything optimized as per those instructions. But I'm a lemming. Now I have to think for myself and ...hence my question. I didn't have the foresight to test everything I did so I hope I hit most correctly. I'm not too fussy i.e. subtle imperfections but I do want the best game I can possibly put together. thanks SRB. -

LOL, no way teachers have the time to screw with this stuff on the job at least none that I know. Just a restless soul in the commodity biz that probably wishes he majored in computer science 30 years ago ;-) I'm just glad you aren't blocked by the firewall... Just optimizing the W and A won't hurt true but it WILL take up hard drive space if I don't want to override the original textures with the new ones correct ? -
need further DDS OPT understanding...
Quahogs replied to Quahogs's question in General Skyrim LE Support
So as I understand the 8192 DEFAULT just optimizes the textures and maps and doesn't change the size ? So If I'm installing a HD 2048 texture it will remain that way. If I choose 1024x1024 then I'm cutting it to that size ALONG with optimizing it ? Is anyone aware of what kind of textures are in immersive armors and weapons and whether they should be optimized or not ? also has the current ddsopt.ini been updated recently ? sorry but it's tough for me to research some of this stuff from work... a lot of skryim stuff is blocked ! :-P -
I'm confused. Â For example I've ddsopt SIC textures 8192x8192 normal maps 8192x8192. Â Same goes for Amidian Book of Silence. Â However it's noted that I ddsopt Starx auto variants textures at 2048x2048 amd normal maps at 1024x1024. Â Â In laymen's terms why is there a difference ? Am I increasing the original size or quality 4 TIMEs greater than the 2048 option ?? Â I'm trying not to be a lemming when I follow SR but I just don't understand why some textures are optimized using 8192 or 2048 and some not at all. Â Immersive armors and weapons for example... Â plenty of textures there, how should I optimize them if at all ? Â Â thanks all...

How is Unreal incompatible with CoT ? I too enjoyed Unreal (only as a test run while setting up SR) but once I found it wasn't compatible with CoT I moved to another. What does CoT really bring to the table that some here can disregard it ? There's still "weather" right ? lol, I have yet to really start the game as you can tell...

Well I ran patch for Automatic variants under SUM. I now have an automatic variants.esp and a skyproc patches\automatic variants folder under every one of my AV Bellyaches, AV Grace darklings etc etc dir under Mod organizer\mods\... I'm trying to grasp the purpose of this procedure. Simplified why does this need to be done for Automatic variants and dual sheath redux only ?
-
I'm looking at the sum+skyproc readme file. I increased memory from 750 to 2000. I'll let the process run since it says started application below right.
-
I'm running SUM thru MO. Â I have automatic variants installed and that is what pops up . Â I check that and then hit OPEN next to texture variants. Â Nothing happens. Â What IS supposed to happen actually ? Â Â I'm running java 7.0.90.5 and the lastest SUM download. Â Once again modding this game has me stymied. Â THanks for any help here...

I'm such a neophyte. Â I just don't want to miss out on any magic bullets. Â But I'm real happy with it. Â SR le is near completion and the visuals are WOW. Â After that I'll attempt SkyRE. Â For sure that will test my sanity...

1) from SR instructions: "For the purposes of the guide, the d3d9.dll method will be used" 2) from guide ENB STEP wiki :  "ENB users only have two options available to them; Edge AA or SMAA using an injector. For users on low-end systems, the ENB's Edge AA is probably the best choice because it comes with almost no performance loss. SMAA is a great replacement for driver AA or the game engine's AA, so for users on mid to high-end machines, SMAA will be the best option" Then, copy the following files provided in the ENB mod download files to your root Skyrim folder : d3d9_smaa.dll injector.ini SMAA.h SMAA.fx"  ---> from what I understand I'm instructed to use ENBseries wrapper v. not injector v.   In regard to the wrapper or d3d9.dll I have a question.  I'm using Unreal Cinema and guessing that Unreal Cinema is built to use Edge AA and NOT SMAA correct ?  If that's true would a switch to SMAA really be a noticeable improvement ?   If I did want to try SMAA (I'm using ENB mgr) would all I have to do is make a copy of Unreal Cinema's dir and replace the files : d3d9_aa.dll with d3d9_smaa.dll and then add the other 3 in the same dir ?  Or is it more complicated than that ? :o_O: Thanks

Reviewing my skyrimprefs.ini I do show imaxanistropy=8 and imultisample=4 Â Â Am I correct in assuming they both should =0 if I'm using an ENB? Â Not sure how they got switched back on, must have done something wrong. Â Will the ini's in the MO profile folder always trump the driver settings under the Nvidia Inspector driver v.profile ? Â

Using the latest V.of Unreal Cinema and am wondering if anyone offhand may now of this issue. Â Outdoors look beautiful. Â However when I enter indoors everything is off. Â If using Alternate life my new character's dungeon and screen is a bright orange. Â Creating a new character thru Helgen as I enter the dungeon parts of the floor are pale blue and missing structure. Â If I look up it looks like the ceiling is gone and I can see clouds. Â Disabling the ENB (shift-f12) and everything becomes fine. Â Â Also everyone's eyes are black. Â Weird. Â Looks really awesome outdoors though... I hope I can rectify it. Â Thanks

FPS rate into hundred plus ! ????
Quahogs replied to Quahogs's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Well for example I was going to forgo using an ENB and had SMAA at 8 and AF at 4 under the Launcher's Option section. Â I change my mind and want to run an ENB so I turn both those to off. Â Under my documents I see the new ini's. Â However under MO I see older v. modified by me sometime earlier today. Â Since I made an adjustment like that do I have to delete those INI's from mod again ? Â What I don't know is if the INI's in MO instruct Skyrim to have both SMAA and AF off. Â Also does the nvidia injector driver settings trump what the INI's say in MO at startup ? Â -

One other question though. If I'm in the launcher from Steam modifying smaa and af does that automatically change the ini's that are launched thru MO SKSE ? Or do I have to delete those 2 INI's every time ? -
FPS rate into hundred plus ! ????
Quahogs replied to Quahogs's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Oh baby! The latest video inspector was screwing it all up ! I looked at the wiki nvidia skyrim guide and noticed the v. there 1.9.6.8. I was wondering why the insrtructions/settings didn't match up. Didn't think that much of it. NOw the guide is per rote and I made the appropriate choices choosing an FPS cap of 60 too and 60 it shows :-) I think my low FPS stuttering had to do with the VGA splitter I was using between pcs. When I plugged the monitor right to my Skyrim PC I think that was the trick. At least I hope it wasnt a coincidence. Game looks beautiful ! :-) Thanks, you people are the best ! -
FPS rate into hundred plus ! ????
Quahogs replied to Quahogs's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Yes I have vertical sync for both set to vsyncmode_forceoff (there is no 3d application setting) in both profiles.  I have vertical tear control set to _disable (there is no adaptive setting).  I also set the Frame rate limiter to to  PS_framerate_limiter_FPS_40.  NO change whatsoever.  Saved closed clicked back in and settings took I found the 3.14 driver and re-installed that.   video inspector is v 1.9.7.2 - could that be a factor ? -
FPS rate into hundred plus ! ????
Quahogs replied to Quahogs's question in General Skyrim LE Support
deleted and added.  Still no change deleted all the added inspector profiles.  Reverted the Skyrim profile to original and changed the global profile to vsyncmode_forceoff  Rolled back driver to 3.11.  Absolutely no change.  No more low FPS or stuttering though !  Game moves smooth.  Except for the flying animals :-(   As soon as the fog rolls into the Skyrim screen the FPS shoot into the 1000's from 30.  Starting a new character using alternate start puts me in the dungeon standing still at 280 FPS.  What in the world is going on with this system ????   -
I have FRAPS loaded up and when I enter Skyrim thru SKSE or steam launcher FPS goes from 30 to approx 2000 when the fog rolls in.  Launching a new game thru MO SKSE (alternate start) brings me to character creation in the dungeon and FPS SITS at 230 without the character even moving.  Launching a new game thru Steam gets me on the cart which is flipping all over the place with the FPS about 150 This is not good.  I noticed the animals flipping out, defying physics walking jumping into the air and I know a high FPS is the cause.  But what is creating this abnormally high FPS issue ?  History:  - I'm following SR Legendary (yes I'm aware of the warnings but I really want the best possible game - graphics and performance I can get).  I'm willing to take it slow, troubleshoot and adjust.  I have no immediate visions of granduer  - I'm up to the face/body section.  I've been monitoring gameplay just to check issues after each section.   - Up to this point I've made the SR LE tweaks for eventual ENB use - MSAA and AF set to off.   - I had enbseries 2.06 working with realcinema and had no crazy FPS spike.  It maxed to 60 (as shown by enb fps monitor) but the FPS would drop to single digits when I panned around - sputtering and   stuttering (ANOTHER issue but can't even address THAT monster yet)  - At this point I decided to abandon ENB - deleted it from ENB manager and removed enb files from skyrim\ dir.   - I changed back any ENB adjustments to skyrimpref.ini and changed the launcher options back to MSAA 8x and AF 4x and made sure Nvidia's Inspector profile is back to original Elder Scrolls Skyrim Questions: 1. I have modified launcher's Options, modified Nvidia's Inspector, GEforce Optimizer and tweaked skyrimpref.ini.  What overides what?  I don't understand what skyrim launcher reads or SKSE launcher reads upon startup.  I had set a frame rate limiter in Nvidia's Inspector (40) but FPS still went through the roof.  2. Nvidia Inspector.  Do the profiles I adjust/create even help run Skyrim ?  Every time I go back into Inspector the profile that comes up is the Global Driver profile.  3.  Crazy high FPS rate.  I have googled this issue but no one seems to have any issues over 60 FPS.  Is FRAPS not working correctly?  Is there another FPS monitor out there beside enbseries which I don't have installed 4.  Crazy LOW FPS causing severe stuttering during panning.  This was my initial problem with the ENB installed and now without ENB.  I know this can be anything.  v-sync enabled or disabled for this?  I have also set MSAA and AF to disbled and still have issues.  I know this one is going to take some time If this is in the wrong forum or site I apologize.  I know that are a lot of sharp folks here.  I'm just hoping someone can steer me in the right direction or forum.  I really tried reading and working through this but I seem more confused than before I started.  I included my current skyrimpref.ini, maybe something's obviously off there.  Thank you skyrimpref ini.txt

Speaking of backups. At the completion of SR and all looks/plays well (at the start at least) will making a copy of the steam dir (which includes everything including MO) cover my bacon if something goes wrong and I need to pull that old steam dir back ? Assuming I never tweak the program going forward. Will the saved games play to a pulled copy of the steam dir ?
-
Ah Xcopy. Looks like that will work. Just looking for confirmation here: Due to space constraints I really don't need to have BOTH the original mod folder with the vanilla textures AND the identical optimized folder containing the optimized files together in MO correct ? If I'm able to extract via Xcopy the new optimized files to overwrite the vanilla I'm good ? It makes no sense to have the old vanilla around on my limited SSD.
-
of course there's an easy way to overwrite the duplicate files and leave the others alone but I'll be damned if I know. Â Some kind of boolean script - yah. Â Well anyway to save space I opted to NOT have a duplicate mod called AV Bellyaches optimized and just replaced the bellyaches animals folder with my optimized one. Â I copied the specification.json files for each animal to the optimized animal folders. Â For some reason the original dir had 285 files while my optimized dir had 283. Â Oh well I couldn't find them. Â I guess I'll figure it out when I face an animal that looks like a cardboard cutout. Â

[Solved] Very Odd Helgen Keep Problem
Quahogs replied to Moragg's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I've been too busy trying this modding thing to actually play much of the game but I do know the opening sequence well. Â As the cart is coming down the road coming around a left bend I notice mtns way in the distance on the left flickering. Â Is that what you are referring too ? Â I have no idea if all the tweaks/add/enb's etc will address that or not... Â thanks -
that's correct but if I create the output folder .../bellyaches animals optimized/ will ddsopt create, copy the animal directories following that directory on its own with the optimized files in them ?
-
So I guess ddsopt will CREATE the specific animal directorys with the optimized files in them ? Â I "should" know this I guess since I've optimized up to this point but am at work and can't experiment yet.. Â
-
Notice:For DDSOpt to properly process these textures the contents of the mod folder should be moved into a temporary textures folder prior to processing. After processing is complete, the folders must be moved back to the root folder in both the mod folder and the optimized texture folder. as per these instructions, for example the bellyache directory list 30+ animals. Do I have to create an optimized OUT directory for EVERY animal ? or can do this : 1) create a temp dir called C:/textures and COPY /bellyaches animals/all animal directorys to it 2) name this as my :/IN path 3) my newly created :/OUT path 4)get the end result to look like this (moving the optimized folders results) --> ...mods/AV bellyaches/skyprocpatchers/automatic variants/av packages/bellyaches animals optimized/ ???? do the animal directories have to be spelled out in the optimized folder ? Now that I'm thinking of it if the only files in the animal folder are the optimized *.dds and *_*n.dds do I even NEED a 2nd optimized folder ? Could I then just copy the temp results OVER the original dirs but only from this point on : bellyaches animals/ Thanks all... all this is WAY new to me can't you tell ? lol
