  1. If you're going to fix this issue, it's vital to figure out where to focus your efforts. With a non-working printer for example, it does no good doing a full tear-down of the system to figure out if a PCB is responsible for it failing to work, when what's wrong is that the wall socket doesn't work. Currently we're doing the equivalent of replacing the printer with another one. If that doesn't fix the problem, we check further by investigating the mains. With Oblivion, if restoring a working copy after a failure doesn't result in things working, that means that something else outside of Oblivion is causing the problem. It could be the graphics card, it could be the antivirus, it could unstable memory, or anything from the troubleshooting Oblivion page. https://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Technical_Support Whatever else, by restoring a working copy of Oblivion and finding that it doesn't work (perhaps until after a reboot), you are confirming that Oblivion is not the cause of the problem. Figure out the cause of the problem and you're more than halfway towards a solution.
  2. As you had a working copy of Oblivion's textures, and returned it back to what was a working copy without it working, you have ruled out the textures as being the cause. You can troubleshoot further by taking a full copy of a working Oblivion before making further changes, and then after having trouble seeing if that you can get things back to working by deleting and replacing from that working copy. If things still fail after that, something outside of Oblivion is causing your problem. TES4LodGen is for distant objects, and TES4LL is for distant landscape. They help to make things more consistent, but to the best of my knowledge not more stable. I don't think that they affect the stabiltiy of the game.
  3. That's alright, knowing it's nvlddmkm is enough. Your issue seems to rest outside of Oblivion, which is confirmed by the inconsistent nature of the issue. Some good solutions on dealing with that particular driver can be found at https://www.techspot.com/community/topics/blue-screen-while-playing-oblivion.146756/ and https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/373084/nvlddmkm-driver-crash-possible-solution-33-/
  4. What does the event viewer say about the crash?
  5. Not quite. The LOD stuff is only so that the far terrain matches up with the close-up terrain. If you have the distant lands option disabled, you'll have no LOD stuff to worry about. The main approach here is to figure out what it is that is causing the crash. Where you want to be at, is to add a mod and have the game crash, followed by removing that mod to find that the game works. When you can reliably go between a non-working setup and a working setup, you can then reliably attempt things so that your non-working setup ends up being a working setup with the mod included. So, backtrack. Is it the Conflicting Textures section that you are having trouble with? Uninstall them. Then run the game and make sure that it still works (there's no point testing from there if it still doesn't work). Install the mods one by one, testing after each one. You will then find that one of them causes trouble. When that occurs, make sure of it. Remove the trouble one and get back to a working system. Then add the trouble one and make sure that it really is the one causing trouble. Let us know which mod is the one causing trouble, and further troubleshooting can occur from there.
  6. That's showing that they've been applied without any trouble, and so can be ignored for now. Let's find out then what the culprit it. There can be several different things prevents you from getting started. Disabling all of the mods is a good easy way to find out if the underlying system is good to go. Once you have confirmed that things work without mods, we can then enable them, one group at a time, to help us figure out what is causing the problem. Once the cause makes itself known, something can them be done about it.
  7. Do things work with all mods disabled? Yes - Gradually enable mods until you find where the problem lies. Further advice can be given from there. No - Something other than mods are causing the problem. Initial troubleshooting can be done by deleting the oblivion.ini file and recreating it by starting Oblivion. Further troubleshooting can be done from here by examining the event viewer for information about what caused the crash in the first place.
  8. Better Cities has recently added Boron Dakkon's House in Oblivion from The Lost Spires, and I made the mistake of visiting at night, where a clear case of multiple textures fighting each other on the same mesh of the house. At 7am onwards the walls seem to come right, but the windows still show the texture problem. The Better Cities - The Lost Spires patch doesn't do anything to help remedy the issue. What would be a good solution for this? To use an earlier version of Better Cities? Or some other sort of solution such as removing the house from one of the mods?
  9. I've been busy, creating some patches to deal with common problems. Ruined-Tail's Tale for example has regular crashes when he summons his horse. A solution can now be found at: RTT horse patch https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/46856/ A separate issue I found when starting the Gold Horse Courier (GHC) quests, where I wasn't familiar with the office locations in the different cities. Information does exist on a wiki, but I don't want to break the flow of the game, so came up with a viable solution of adding direction information to the GHC rules and regulations sheet. Gold Horse Courier directions https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/46857/
  10. I think that I'll start uploading patches to fix issues, where existing fixes cannot be found. For example, when the Anvil blacksmith Orrin tries to walk out of his room, he ends up attempting to walk through the candelabra. This is due to the Real Lights part of the All Natural mod adding the candelabra, but not updating the pathgrid. I've updated the pathgrid so that Orrin and any other NPC's will instead walk around the candelabra. You can find the patch for this at: Weather - All Natural Real Lights - Candelabra pathgrid fix https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/46854/
  11. I've been noticing that Verona House Bloodlines and MTCExpandedVillages have a minor issues with each other. The expanded villages include Aleswell, which also results in the signpost being moved. The Verona Bay sign is then left hanging in midair. I've created a patch that moves the Verona Bay sign back on to the signpost. Currently I've been using BOSS to sort the fix after Verona House Bloodlines 1.2.esp, and want to gauge how others feel about such a fix. The patch can be found at: Verona Bay sign patch for MTCExpandedVillages https://www.nexusmods...ion/mods/46853/
  12. Let's see what can be learned about this sleeping issue. Disabling mods from ELZ-No FLoating Weapons on downwards doesn't change the behavior. Disabling Summon Dremora Lord Saved does result in the behaviour being fixed, where you can sleep in your Cheydinhal home and get out of bed successfully. (better double-check that, enable Summon and problem exists, disable Summon and problem goes away) (The summon mod is not responsible for the problem. Why it's involved is explained further down) Let's slowly bring things back now. I cannot just go down the list turning things on again, because I don't know which ones I shouldn't enable that are in the bashed patch. So first the bashed patch. Oops, problem has returned. Was it one of the included patches or one of the prerequisites that it turned on? Disable the bashed patch leaving enabled the other mods that the patch turned on, and I can successfully sleep again. So something in the bashed patch is also causing the problem. Okay, let's disable everything and see if I can successfully sleep. Yes. With the bashed patches enabled then disabled (to activate required masters). There's a lot of them, 74 in total. Time to remove these one screen at a time to find out what's causing the problem. I've noted down all the active mods, so as I disable them I can use the list to easily enable the appropriate ones again. An interesting aspect is that if the sleeping problem occurs and I get up clipped outside of the room, I can look back at the bed to activate it and I properly get back in to bed, allowing me to properly stand up again inside of the building. Also, I can lie down and stand up properly while unclothed, but if I wait until my clothing returns, the problem occurs when I try to lie down again where I'm positioned off the side of the bed, and stand up outside of the building. Whoops, I save my game and the problem no longer occurs from that save game. Interesting. Time to load a nearby save. It seems that there was something in my old save that was causing the problem. It also occurs with the nearby save. Is is something I'm carrying? New details - with all the mods loaded I can get the problem to reliably occur when holding the Dred Doomshard Bow, and when holding nothing the problem doesn't occur. Holding other weapons doesn't seem to cause the problem. Without the Summon mod installed, my Dred bow wasn't able to be loaded so the problem no longer occurred. It seems that having an active bow when lying down, interrupts the sleep animation and causes you to sleep off the edge of the bed. In your Cheydinhal house this is too close to the wall, so when you get up you clip outside of the wall. You can fix this in two ways. 1. First you can check if you have a bow active and deactivate it when you sleep. 2. If you forget to do that, when getting up out of bed you can turn around and lie down on the bed again, which will position you properly on the bed.
  13. Actually, maybe not. I used that with the countess of Bruma to find out what clothing was missing for her. I had texture trouble with afk_frostcrag, until I learned that an additional missing step is to choose an 02 texture from the esp filter area. How did I figure that out? It's time to backtrack and record the steps that I took. First, find out what's asking for the missing texture. - Open the console (with the tilde character (~)) and click on the missing texture. - The item name and id will appear at the top of the screen. For example, "Desk" (46007073), or "Chair" (4600706d) - The first two digits of the id (46 in this case) is the number of the mod. Wrye Bash's Mod tab shows that number 46 in my list is afk_froscrag - Temporarily disable the mod to confirm that you have found the correct source of the problem. When confirmed, enable it again. - Use TESEdit to load that mod, by disabling all mods then double-clicking on the particular mod of interest. In my case, I find a Desk with an id of 03007073 in the Static area, and the chair is in the same place too. It's 03 in this case because TESEdit loaded the mod third, after oblivion, cobl, and a dlc frostcrag patch. We can now see the location of where it's attempting to get the missing texture from (Dwip\AFK_Frostcrag\furniture\upperbookshelf03oak.nif), and further investigation can occur from there. For afk_frostcrag, I see there are dwip folders in each of the 02 folders. When going to the mod page at https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/38916/? I see in the description the following info: Select the 02 Furniture package of your choice. You must pick one and only one of these. which is information that was missing from the guide. Doing that, and the problem is fixed. That's how the texture issue for afk_frostcrag is resolved. Other mods may have different reasons, but the steps to find out what's causing the issue tend to be the same. Find out what's causing the issue, go back to the install guide to find out if you did everything that you should do, then look further from there.
  14. You can use refscope to find out what missing textures it's wanting. With the cursor on one of them, hold down x to choose it, then while held down press e.
  15. Experience born from pain. For example, sometimes an NPC will approach you after you've slept, but because you're using a mod that lets you see you sleep, you cannot get up due to the NPC mod disabling your actions. You're stuck, trapped. So you have to use the console, click on the NPC to find their reference id, and issue the command: player.moveto <RefId> Another sleeping issue is in your Cheydinhal home. When you get up you clip through the wall, resulting in you falling outside. The only solution to which is to toggle clipping with tcl to get back inside, then toggle it off again.
  16. Dealing with crashes ends up being a combination of a science and an art. I found that CTD's would reliably occur in certain places, such as when travelling NW of Weye. Creating a savegame shortly beforehand, I was able to gradually remove mods until I found that the Curse of Hircine was causing my problem. With everything else installed but only that one not installed, no crash would occur. As none of the attempted answers seemed to resolve the problem, it was an easy choice to remove that one mod. Other CTD's were caused by RTT, when the sound/video effects occurred when he summoned his horse. I was able to get this to reliably occur (which is vital!) when I mount my horse. Fixing that was achieved by editing his companion script, to remove the effects when the horse is summoned/banished. https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/18837-name-ruined-tails-tale-storydriven-npc-companion/?p=2620473 Another CTD occurs when you mount your horse while RTT is crouching down to examine a dead creature. Knowing why it occurs is half the battle, for you can then seek to prevent those situations from occurring. All sorts of other things could be causing issues though, including: - windows downloading updates - other windows programs that startup with your machine - multicore cpu - antivirus program - multiple monitors Many of these can be diagnosed from the windows event viewer, but it can be tricky to figure out exactly what may be causing the problem. Sometimes I have removed every single mod to find that it still crashes, so I knew it was none of the mods responsible. Looking outside of Oblivion at my computer system I was able to find and fix the problem. More Heap has seemed to help with stability too. https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/44985/?
  17. It applies a custom sort to the list. See https://boss-developers.github.io/BOSS%20Readme.html#gui-urm for details on how to use it.
  18. If this is the first time you've used the sure bash installer, you need to right-click on a column header and say that you want to enable the installer.
  19. Problem: Countess Narina Carvain of Bruma looks like she's wearing invisibility clothing. Cause: Further investigation with RefScope shows that Skyrimesque Counts and Countesses is wanting to use clothing that doesn't exist. Solution: The description page for that mod says that you need to download Slof's Victorian Clothing models and textures from https://www.slofslair.co.uk/mods/102 Install:When you add Slof's Victorian Clothing to the Wrye Bash installer and unpack it, untick the .esp in Esp/m Filter, then install it. This will ensure that you have the models and textures with no other unwanted side-effects.
  20. AFK Frostcrag has been posing some problems. First no meshes appeared for the furniture, which was easily solved by selecting one of the Esp/m Filter 02 choices. Second and more egregious though, is that the books on the left-most shelf fall off, resulting in a pile of books at the bottom of the shelf. Going inside with afk_frostcrag uninstalled, results in the books being nicely on their shelves. I've tried several types of solutions, including: - removing virtually all mods except for those needed by afk_frostcrag - trying different combinations of the 02 meshes - saving while standing outside, activating the mod then going inside. What happens is that the old shelves get removed, and I can see the new shelves being added in, with the books falling off them. So for now, I feel that I have to go without AFK_Frostcrag for the meantime, which is a shame. Does anyone have a potential solution to this problem?
