  1. Switching to Win7 will help only under a specific circumstance, satisfied by two conditionals: A) You must have >4GB VRAM (e.g. a gtx 1070 or 1080, or a titan, or something along those lines). B) You must be hitting the 4GB VRAM limit (you can check this using SPM while going outdoors. If the graph is pegging at 4GB, you are hitting the texture limit). If those both apply to you (they did to me), then yeah, switching to Win7 will allow you to use that VRAM that isn't currently being used under Win10, and will help your framerates. [Note: You can also try dropping the texture sizes down a notch or two, e.g. use 2K instead of 4K textures, or use 1K instead of 2K, until you see that graph come down in the SPM below 4GB]. However, I have to stress, BOTH those things have to be true in order for Win7 to help you. If your video card has 4GB (or less) of memory, you aren't going to gain anything, you have already maxxed out the VRAM anyway. And if you are not hitting 4GB to begin with, then Win10 is not your problem (likely you are CPU bound).
  2. This is true. I could even do that in xEdit myself, presuming I could track down that encounter. I'm not a big fan of changing the difficulty in game myself, but I suppose as a matter of last resort, that could work too, hehe. Thanks Lexy. Cool, thank you Skadi, that makes me feel a bit better. I'll def be checking into this. It may not be to everyone's liking, but the way I like to play, it seems pretty perfect :)
  3. I'm intrigued by this mod, as mages are another place where combat is currently way out of whack, IMO. OBIS often puts mages in that starting mine cave, and if one of them throws fire at you, you're doomed. I went down within two seconds, and there was absolutely nothing I could do to get away from it. If they have a limit on their mana (like the PC does) then at least it's a bit fairer. Further, I've never agreed with the Bethesda line that enemies level with you (it almost actively discourages leveling up). I don't think that's particularly immersive myself, and wouldn't mind if that was taken out. So on paper this mod seems like a perfect fit for my play style. That being said, I'm a bit concerned that it isn't being maintained, and further requires a script that the mod author doesn't provide. Seems a bit sketchy. Still, I think I may give it a shot. I presume it wouldn't work so well with AAE, so I'll likely drop that (unless you guys think otherwise). But I'd hopefully like to keep OBIS and probably the dragon mods (although again that first dragon encounter outside of Whiterun is a story blocker if you can't kill it until your much higher level, but I suppose I could deal with that as long as it's not too unreasonable).
  4. And you think that's okay? I'm not trying to be adversarial, I'm really asking. Seems like a level 30 troll blocking access to High Hrothgar is kinda game breaking, isn't it? (or if it's a snow troll, which I think it is, then it's level 50). I know all you people are uber-gods when it comes to combat (hehe), but I had trouble with that troll just using Vanilla. If he's now level 30 or 50, that means I'm completely blocked from continuing the main story from that point on for a LONG TIME. Especially with the leveling slowdown introduced by Disparity. Are you guys actually playing the game like this? I'm seriously considering dropping AAE. I'm trying not to change anything right now (as I have now started my recorded playthrough and don't want to break anything at this point). But I can't have something that game-breaking sitting in my game. While the combat in Vanilla skyrim is a bit too easy in a lot of places, I think y'all are going too far the other way and making a lot of things just ridiculously hard. If I'm dying every two minutes, I'm not enjoying myself (plus it reeks havok on my recordings making the editing sessions difficult). I think I may need to spend this week trying to tone things down and rebalance the combat again. As of right now I'm only just out of the starter cave in my playthrough, so I still have the week to mess with it before I really have to call it "unchangable". With OBIS, Deadly Dragons, AAE, Scarcity, et al, I don't see how my character has any chance in this world, hehe.
  5. Texture size absolutely WILL affect framerate, and in a big way, if you hit the limit on VRAM on your card (or 4GB if using Win8/10). All that swapping of textures between RAM and VRAM will kill your framerate. Now, if you aren't hitting that limit, then yeah, changing it up or down won't do much (if anything) to your FPS.
  6. Windows 10 is most likely your problem. I know because I'm in the same boat. That nice 1070 you have with the 8GB of VRAM on it is only being about half used. Win 8, 8.1, and various flavors of 10 all cap the VRAM usage at 4GB. So you are likely running into that cap. Run SPM and you will be able to tell for sure. If that's the case, you have two options. Reinstall mods with a lower texture requirement (1K instead of 2K, that sort of thing) until you see that value drop below 4GB in the SPM, or dual boot to Windows 7 (which doesn't impose that restriction).
  7. That makes sense. So I'd have to remake her using the merged files, then she'd load fine presumably. I'll work on that :)
  8. BTW, I'm not sure what is going on with this, but I had to undo the Faces merge. I use a preset for my character, and it absolutely would not work. I even tried running without the merge, setting up the character (which worked fine with the individual components), saving, exiting the game, turning off the individual components and turning on Faces Merged, and then going back in. She was borked (bald and different brows/makeup and such). So it wasn't just that she wouldn't initialize, she wouldn't load at all. As soon as I turned back on all the individual components again, she loaded just fine. So yeah, something about that Faces Merged is weird, at least on my setup. Maybe just because I'm using a preset? Anyone else had any issues with it, or is it just me?
  9. Hmmm, perhaps it's just going slower than I'm used to. In Vanilla (or SRLE) by the time I got out of the tutorial cave and through that first bandit cave, I was easily qualified for level 2, or even 3. With this version of extended, the bar literally has not moved at all. I'll take a look at the individual skills when I get home (didn't think to do that, I dunno why). Maybe I'm just being a doofus :) Thanks guys, I'll get back to you.
  10. Well, I'm basically done with my install. Yay! However, doing some testing, I've noticed I'm getting zero experience for combat (or for anything really). My XP bar is all the way at level 1 with no blue, and I've cleared the entire beginning bandit cave (where I typically do all my testing). What is that about? Am I missing something? Or did I install something incorrectly? If so, any suggestions on what to look at? I haven't set up my MCM menus yet, but I did quickly glance through them and I didn't see anything that would turn off XP gain, so I figure I probably did something wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  11. That was the assumption I went as well with Rhods, but I will let Paul et al confirm. It would be nice if that was clarified (hint hint Paul :) ).
  12. Huge congrats Lexi and Darth!
  13. Cool, thanks guys. Once I saw it down below, I figured it might just be a misplaced entry. Thanks for sorting me out :)
  14. Doesn't appear to exist? Am I missing something? [EDIT: Just to clarify, you have "Animated Clutter" under optionals in the "VIvid Landscape - All in One" Section (4.5.8.33). Is that a mistake? You have the actual patch file listed later on Section (4.11.6). It's that first one that is confusing, since if you go to the Vivid Landscape page, there is no file called Animated Clutter. Just a head's up :) ]
  15. So how is RDO testing going? It's seems to have a pretty extensive patch list, is there much in the way of CR to do? I ask because I'm going to have to install it myself into my build in the next day or two, and wondering if I can just get away with using the provided patches, heh.
  16. Drats. I'm gonna have to redo my build now. I both hate and love you all!
  17. Hey Neo, Spice of Life - Forts has been updated to 1.0.5. Just a head's up.
  18. hehe my deepest apologies then I don't know that I could offer any advice that you don't already know (you are a far more experienced modder than I will ever be). The only thing I'd say is that I personally found the LotD patch page to be highly confusing. I ended up installing the "overall" patch and then the individual patches on top of that (in the videos). But in retrospect, I don't think that was right. I suspect the "overall" patch already encompasses everything below it. But you may want to double check on that.
  19. Cool, I'll be watching this with great interest. I added LotD to my build, and it will be nice to see if I did it right. I imagine I may be tweaking mine out once I read over this, heh
  20. It's really not all that hard, the mod has a pretty extensive self-patching utility, and there are a whole mess of individual patches on top of that. Because of that, the conflict resolution is actually pretty straight-forward (I do it in one of the last couple of vids, 53 or 54 I think). And I should point out, the biggest conflicts were with Coin Replacer, and there has since been a LotD specific patch for that one, so now it ought to be even easier than when I did it. You may not even need to do any CR at all, or if you do it will be pretty minor. The patch central page is pretty confusing though, admittedly. There is a main "all-in-one" patch at the top, but then a whole lot of individual patches underneath it. It's really not clear (and yes, I RTFM, if there is any explanation in there I didn't see it) if you are meant to install the main patch, and then all the applicable individual ones on top of that, or if those are in incorporated in the main patch already. I think I assumed the individual patches should be installed along with the main patch. But I could be wrong about that. In any event, my build was stable, so it's all good :) Other than that it's really just a matter of pulling out the Book Covers of Skyrim mod. That's slightly complicated by the fact that it is a master for the CR patch mod (if you are using the pre-made file), but you can pretty easily remove that dependency via TES5Edit.
  21. Okay, well I think I've solved this, more or less. I discovered I wasn't in fact in my monitor's native resolution, which turned out to be 1900x1200 (I was running the game in 1900x1080). When I fixed this I picked up 5-10 FPS (odd that it went up when I increased the resolution, but I guess that's what putting the game into the native res will do for ya). As for the remaining 10-15 FPS, I've noticed that it's really just that particular scene. If I move on anywhere else, it pegs out at 60 just about everywhere. Must be all the waterfalls and whatnot. It is a particularly heavy scene. We'll see how it goes as I continue adding more heavy mods to the game. I still find it a bit odd that the FPS drops below 60 when it's not taxing my machine at all (RAM, VRAM, CPU, GPUs all fine, well below max). [MODS: I suppose this ought to have gone into the support forum. Sorry about that. Feel free to move it over there if you want].
  22. Hey guys, I'm getting odd performance, given the machine I'm running on, and I'm hoping you guys might have some thoughts. I'm running on an Intel i7 5820K, with two nvidea 970s SLI'd, with 32GB of RAM, Windows 8.1. At the time this shot was taken, this is a partially modded Skyrim install (through 4.3.14 [Wiseman303's Critter Fixes] of SR:LE), so there is nothing particularly heavy running (the ENB is not activated yet). So, this is the place where I'm taking my measurements, it's just outside the starting cave (near the first set of standing stones). It's a pretty heavy scene. https://www.rjcyberware.com/images/ScreenShot2.png And here is the performance monitor (and my nvidea inspector monitor) https://www.rjcyberware.com/images/Stats.png As you can see, nothing is near to maxxed out, I'm not hitting the limit on VRAM (4096), both my cards are running around 20-25% of capacity, and yet I'm getting 40FPS at this scene. What would be causing that? Any ideas?
  23. I stuck with the "current" version as long as I could. There came a point when that was no longer feasible, and that point came on March 8. At that time, the guide changed, and I had a choice to go backward and redo stuff I'd already done, or continue on using an old version of the guide. As the first option ultimately was an exercise in futility (I would never have finished the series, it would simply have become a constant reinstallation of prior mods), I chose the latter. So from that point on I used the March 8 version of the guide.
  24. Hey everyone, Just wanted to drop a quick note. My video series is now complete. It consists of a total of 56 videos and covers, in some detail, a full installation of SRLE from beginning to end (starting with installing Skyrim). After that is finished, I then cover adding SkyComplete and Legacy of the Dragonborn to the install (what can I say, I'm a completionist!). I tried to keep each video to 20 minutes or so. In a few cases they go longer. The playlist is here if you are interested in taking a look. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaHO2M49jtr28CV0Of1RbMhQhmR3_yVS- Videos 1-49 (plus video 7A) cover the installation of SRLE. Videos 50-55 cover the installation of SkyComplete and Legacy of the Dragonborn over the top of SRLE (including creating a new bashed patch, conflict resolution, etc, in order to stabilize the game with the new additions). Along the way I did make a few mistakes here and there. It's difficult not to when you are trying to keep things moving along for the purposes of a video. But when I did make a mistake, I noted it (usually I caught them during editing, some of them were caught by viewers), and then corrected the mistake is a subsequent video. I want to say thanks to Neovalen (of course!) for his amazing guide without which I obviously could not have produced these videos. And also to the viewers that proofed my work and pointed out issues along the way. Note that I'm aware the entire thing will quickly go out of date (in fact, it already has). The purpose though I think is still valid even if the specific steps are not going to be the same as SRLE evolves. That purpose is to help people who are new to modding learn how to run through the guide so that they are knowledgeable enough to tackle the changes as they come up. I'll be starting up a "Let's Play Skyrim" with this install (or at least something very similar to it, I'm actually redoing the entire install to update it to the current version of the guide). Probably in a couple of weeks or so.
