  1. No idea why this happens, but once in awhile when I first use the flames two handed magic effect, the game will lock up. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be? I'm using the 2.2.4 version of STEP, and Wrye Bash. Mostly a mix of 1-2K textures.
  2. Correction- this is not Bethesda's new project. They are merely publishing it. I'm still hoping their new project will be Fallout 4.
  3. Just ran this and a Redundant Rule appears, with NonEssentialChilds appearing in the Userlist Rule and Masterlist Definition for NonEssentialChildren.esp. I am not sure why though b/c I have Dawnguard loaded and active. I do not have Hearthfire loaded or installed. Here's the error/warning text: IF CHECKSUM "NONESSENTIALCHILDREN.ESP", BAE841D8 && IFNOT VAR(Hearthfire) %% IF VAR(EN) ERROR: Hearthfire.esm is not present or is not active. Skyrim will CTD when loading if using this file without Dawngaurd (Official Bethesda DLC). The option is either to Remove Rule or Change to Override. Which should I choose? In BOSS I only have NonEssentialChlidren.esp checking in the Esp/m Filter column. I don't see any Hearthfire components to the mod. I downloaded the vanilla version of the mod, not the Hearthfire version. And as far as I can tell, I have no .esp file names NonEssentialChilds, just NonEssentialChildren. Thanks.
  4. Thanks. By CK you mean Creation Kit? I don't have that installed, so I haven't used it before.
  5. 1) Remove the red enemy indicators from the compass? What bothers me is that they appear before I see/engage hostiles, so it's kind of a cheat. 2) Remove the "combat music" that is triggered when in proximity to hostiles, before I've even seen them? Ruins the element of surprise, and is also a cheat. PRetty sure both of these mods existed for Oblivion. Thanks.
  6. My bad- I don't think I understood you fully.
  7. Ugh...gettting a ton of screen tearing now that I turned Adaptive Vsync on in my NVIDIA settings. For some reason it happens when climbing up and down stairs. I tried toggling iPresentInterval between 0 and 1 but the tearing remains. I guess I will try switching it to On instead of Adaptive in the NVIDIA settings, though based on the review I just read at HardOCP.com, I thought Adaptive Vsync was supposed to alleviate this problem. Might there be another Vsync setting in the ENBseries config file that I need to adjust?
  8. So if I'm going to use Adaptive Vsync on my NVIDIA cards settings I take it that I should disable Skyrim's own Vsync, ie set it to 0. I noticed that it is set to 1 in my Skyrimprefs.
  9. OK. I have no less than 4 options within NVIDIA Control Panel: On On (smooth) Adaptive Adaptive (half refresh rate) Adaptive "will only be on for frame rates above the monitor refresh rate...eliminates tearing at high frame rates while avoiding excess performance loss at lower frame rates." There's no description about the difference between On and On (smooth). Will google it and see. My monitor's refresh rates (I game on 3 30") are 60HZ each, and I doubt that I am getting above 60fps anyplace in game.
  10. This can be marked as solved. I wasn't paying close enough attention- didn't realize that to create ingots actual items would need to be melted down. D'oh.
  11. That's pretty entertaining. Death by physics glitch! So do I want VSync enabled or not, and if not, where might I disable i?
  12. Verified- the problem appears solved. Thanks.
  13. In NVIDIA Control Paenl I have Vertical Sync set to "Use the 3D Application Setting" I don't see any option for V-Sync in the Skyrim Launcher menu. Nor do I see anything about it on the latest STEP guide...so I guess the answer is No, unless I'm overlooking something?
  14. I am a southpaw and use the mouse in my left hand, and have the righthand numpad keys assigned to movement. Therefore with the More Keys Please mod I intend to use keys 1 through = and plan to use three sets of them: basic for weapons and armor, held for spells, and doubletap for potions. So I don't want to assign any righthand numpad keys as hotkeys. I have a few questions. (I posted them to the Nexus form, but that forum can be a bit on the slow side sometimes, depending on the mod and its author). 1) How do I clear my vanilla hotkey favorite selections? I am unable to figure out how do so from within the game, and if I understand correctly, the vanilla selections can interfere with this mod. 2) I don't see Flames listed in the Destruction tab nor Unrelenting Force in the Shouts tab. Is this a bug? I tried toggling Filters off and on. Don't know why neither appears. 3) I cannot seem to get this to mod work from my Favorites menu. I press Insert and see the "More Hotkeys Menu initializing" (or words to that effect) but when I select an item I don't get a prompt as to what kind of key I want to use. No prompts at all. I downloaded this mod three days ago from Nexus so I am running the most current version. I haven't used any versions prior to this. And of course I am running the latest version of SKSE. Thanks
  15. No, I am not using More Interactive Items. Any ideas what might be causing that shake, now that I undid the tweaks to Terrain Manager (z-fighting) and the iLargeIntRefCount? Here's what I have in the Terrain Manager Section of SkyrimPrefs. I switched them back from what's in the STEP guide to vanilla, I believe: [TerrainManager] fTreeLoadDistance=75000.0000 fBlockMaximumDistance=250000.0000 fBlockLevel1Distance=70000.0000 fBlockLevel0Distance=35000.0000 fSplitDistanceMult=1.5000 bShowLODInEditor=0
  16. Also, once in awhile the game won't load when I am leaving an interior back into the outdoors. The few times it's happened it's always been when I've been leaving a particular interior for the first time (ie the outside Skyrim world for that particular location is being loaded for the first time). It happened a few minutes ago when I was exiting the Eldergleam Sanctuary. The load screen was onscreen for 30+ minutes (but the audio track kept playing and didn't lock up or stutter, so it wasn't a lockup in the total sense of the word). When I Ctrl+Alt+Deleted, I saw this error message: Skyrim Failed to initialize renderer. Unknown error creating the renderer. Crap- I just now noticed that Steam is loading Skyrim in my Library- it's at 71% and loading. WTF is up with that? I have updates set to off and the game is fully current. Why the hell woudl that be happening? And more to the point, I hope that doesnt' mean Steam is replacing my optimized DDS files with vanilla unoptimized ones! Any thoughts about this type of crash and why Steam is loading a game that's already fully loaded?
  17. No, no mods that tweak lighting. I have the standard STEP install, a few minor mods (such as speeding up the time it takes the vendor's for sale list to appear, no "you are overencumbered" messages, etc), and Realistic Skyrim ENB (cinematic). Interstingly, the advice you gave me in my post about diagnosing a game crash: "Get rid of z-fighting tweaks and the iLargeIntRefCount-tweak." seems so far to have sped up performance inside dungeons and caves. Wonder why?
  18. Yes, the one in the STEP install- Ars Metallica Smithing. https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16084 Re-reading the instructions for it, and will post on the Nexus forum if I am still stumped. Do you have any ideas what might be causing it? Edit- Just noticed that I had the Ars Metallica Hearthfire.esp selected, along with the base and the Dawnguard and Dragonborne. I don't have Hearthfire installed, so hopefully taht was causing it. I unchecked it. One question- after making a change such as this, is it necessary to rebuild my bashed patch?
  19. Yeah, I think I will pass on it, as cool as it seems, for fear of introducing any instability.
  20. OK. So I will start out by just switching out the optimized Dawngaurd BSA with the unoptimized vanilla Dawnguard BSA and see if the error is still present. Sound good?
  21. OK, got rid of both. Noticed that the game has sped up somewhat in interior spaces (an issue I posted elsewhere about) and no crash at all today during a 5-hour gaming session. Very encouraging. One thing though, and I remember this happening back during the first month or so that the game was out, and when I was using 2 AMD Radeon cards in Crossfire: There's a rapid jitter/shake when I approach objects, mostly indoors, and mostly small/mid-sized objects (and not say a huge door or column). It's not as bad as it was back during the early months of the game and when I used Crossfire, but it is distracting and annoying. What can I do to minimize or remove this? Thanks again.
  22. Bear with me here, since I'm kind of confused, and wondering if this is intentional or a bug: I just added the first Smithing skill boost when I leveled up most recently. I had a number of Steel, Iron, and a few other ingots in my inventory. At the smithing station in Whiterun I did what I thought was creating a bunch of iron weapons, some jewelry, and some steel weapons. However, after apparently creating them, none of them appeared in my inventory, yet all my ingots were gone. Also, earlier, when I tried this same thing, with several weapons already in my inventory, after I'd finished the process, those weapons were gone! Yet I saw no mention of them as a necessary component (ie melting down the weapon to create a new one). I am pretty confused by both of these occurences- no items showing up in my inventory after I thought I'd created them, and my exisiting items dissapearing after I thought I had created new ones. Thanks for any insights into what might be happening.
  23. OK, did both. Will see. But aren't both of these designed to prevent exactly the problems I'm having? Do they sometime cause CTDs?
  24. By "interior lighting" are you referring to an INI or ENB setting, or to a particular mod? Sorry to ask such a basic question- just want to confirm. Other than the iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=1024 and iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=2048 change, I haven't made any other changes and haven't gone from 4K to 2K textures. Though I guess that would be my next step after investigating the interior lighting, as per my first question in this post. PS- Would overclocking my GPU somewhat help improve things?
