  1. Guys, i first installed STEP nearly 2 years ago. I'm glad that the guide is continuing to evolve and develop and i appreciate the incredible amount of work done by everyone here. But, the guide needs a complete overhaul. Use Skyrim Revisited as a guideline. Instructions should be set out in a clear order which can be followed exactly by anyone, regardless of their level of understanding. Jumping from guide to guide, section to section is very confusing for a novice.
  2. Thanks for the reply Ganzer. I will try Ugrids to load, but what is the memory patch you refer to?
  3. Hi, i've followed the STEP core to the letter and also added Climates of Tamriel, Supreme Storms and Realistic Lighting Overhaul. All texture packs used are 1k versions or less. I have 3GB 7970 graphics card. I've been having CTD issues, just wondering if someone could look over my load order for me? It was sorted by BOSS.
  4. 2 days ago i got to the same point in the process and experienced the same issue. I'm guessing either the batch file is wrong or the folder structure given in the guide is inaccurate. It might be an idea to post this in the DDSopt optimization thread.
  5. When you say the FPS is stable, are you using V-Sync or a FPS limiter? I know that high FPS (60+) in Skyrim causes the physics to go nuts, try using one of the above if you don't already.
  6. The comparison images arent taken from exactly the same place so im finding it difficult to compare one to the other.
  7. Sorry, i edited post above.
  8. Could you possibly show me a screenshot of SMAA switched on and off? Edit: Sorry you did already! Can you switch off any other AA you have, either in launcher, skyrimprefs.ini or through driver software and see if it still works?
  9. What launcher are you referring to?
  10. As far as i was aware, SMAA works without having any other AA option enabled, is this correct? Its confusing when we start talking about various AA methods being on or off, i`d just like someone to confirm that they use SMAA as their only AA method, and that it works.
  11. Ive tried using SMAA through an ENB using [PROXY] but it has no effect in-game. Is it possible anyone could show me screenshots with SMAA enabled and disabled so i could see it working?
  12. Sorry to re-post, but can anyone give any info on this subject? Has anyone else had trouble getting SMAA to work? Is anyone using it successfully?
  13. Ive been meaning to start a similar thread myself, ive never managed to get SMAA to work for me either. Ive followed the STEP guide, the SMAA documentation, SweetFX and forcing through Radeon Pro. I have a 7970 OC.
  14. 2.2.1 highly recommends the use of a mod manager, but as yet it doesnt state it as mandatory. I just thought the info Farlo provided me could benefit anybody who still installs mods manually. Edit: Trees HD has a wizard but also has https://wiki.step-project.com/Trees_HD#Recommendations for people who manually install, so theres the precedent ;)
  15. Thanks Farlo, much appreciated. Perhaps add this to https://wiki.step-project.com/Static_Mesh_Improvement_Mod in case someone else needs this info? I do use WB, i just like to repack and name my own 7z archives so i havent used a wizard before.
  16. In Step 2.2.1, the recommendation is "default". There are many options in the most recent version, i dont see what "default" covers. Can anyone give me a more detailed guide as to which options to use? Some are overwritten later in STEP, while some aren`t.
  17. On the Appendices tab of the DDSopt guide it states that the ini distributed with pre release 4 on the nexus is identical to ini in the guide, this isnt the case.
  18. Do you have a previous version installed? Try uninstalling any DDSopts on your system and reinstall.
  19. Run DDSopt as Administrator, should save your settings then.
  20. Yes it is safe to merge all textures into one .7z, just make sure you overwrite STD with HRDLC1, 2 and 3. Its advisable to use "Non-solid" under the "Solid Block size" option of 7zip, this allows decompression in small chunks rather than having to unzip the entire archive. Yes, disable the HRDLC bsa/esp`s and remove "Skyrim - Textures.bsa" from .ini
  21. It was with update 3, but ive just ran the _n.dds files through update 4 and the same thing happens.
  22. Ethatron, ive been having a lot of crashes with DDSopt lately. For instance after constraining the _n.dds files from Serious HD to 50% resolution, when i click on Primary (Destination) in the preview tab it crashes. This happens with all the _n.dds files from Serious HD. I dont know if its just me or if someone else can replicate the bug?
  23. Textures to be added to INI: sky\masser_full.dds sky\masser_half_wan.dds sky\masser_half_wax.dds sky\masser_one_wan.dds sky\masser_one_wax.dds sky\masser_three_wan.dds sky\masser_three_wax.dds sky\moonshadow.dds sky\secunda_full.dds sky\secunda_half_wan.dds sky\secunda_half_wax.dds sky\secunda_one_wan.dds sky\secunda_one_wax.dds sky\secunda_three_wan.dds sky\secunda_three_wax.dds sky\skyrimconstellations01.dds sky\skyrimconstellations02.dds Why do these particular textures cause this problem? Is there something unique about them? I worry that there are other textures like this which havent been discovered yet. If Ethatron drops in maybe he could shed some light on whether DDSopt could detect and process these types of textures automatically without manually discovering them and adding to INI.
  24. Sorry i was using the INI supplied with DDSopt, not the one on the wiki.
  25. When i view several other sky\ textures the Primary (Destination) doesnt look right after optimization. Â Â Â Â Â Im using the Nexus DDSopt, all settings as per OP and Wiki. When i view the textures in IrfanView they look fine. Is DDSopt just displaying the texture incorrectly or has it been corrupted? Order of images - Vanilla, Optimized, Vanilla, Optimized, Vanilla, Optimized
