  1. RLWC is a weather mod though. The next release will have 800 new weather effects. One advantage of RLWC is that it comes ready to look great. And there are RLWC ENBs out there, I think if anything there may be more than CoT. It is great that you can merge the two mods if you like, but it is unreasonable to expect the average STEP user to do that. The two aren't compatible so in the end you can only recommend one. For what reasons is CoT a better mod than RLWC?
  2. Forgot to add these screentshots in the review Tree and Sky Scene 1st noon, 2nd dusk, 3rd night CoT RLWC
  3. Will SkyUI be able to sort books read from books not read? When is the release date?
  4. Lake Scene 1st noon, 2nd dusk, 3rd night CoT RLWC Markarth Keep Interior CoT RLWC OBSERVATIONS: The "day and night" cycle was noticeably more varied for RLWC than CoT. Sunset lasted about three hours with about three distinct stages, while in CoT sunset lasted about one hour with one stage. The day in RLWC at 12:00PM or 1:00PM was noticeably brighter than late afternoon while this was not the case with CoT. Night in RLWC has different stages with different brightness levels while CoT appeared to have one. The shadows in RLWC where often darker and contrasted more. The lights from torches and candles where visibly more yellow while CoT appeared brigher and more white. The sun in RLWC appeared to shine brighter and cause more visible glare both in the sky and on the ground than CoT. RCLW is a different approach to lighting entirely though. Even in its "vision" option torches are necessary at night and in dark dungeons. Torches are essential even to navigating in many places. RCLW has fewer world light sources overall because it removes most "ambient lighting" which casts "fake light" from no visible light source. RLWC also removes bloom entirely. I am not sure of CoT does the same. Bloom was removed from RLWC to give more realistic lighting effect, according to the mod authors. NOTE: RCLW has a major update planned sometime "soon" (read next couple months of they are on track according to their own update schedule"). They plan to implement a lighting system based on meteorological data from Green land, I believe. A more detailed list of their planned updates can be found at their nexus page. PERSONAL OPINION: RLWC provides not only a more realistic lighting experience, but a more immersivle one as several fronts. The shadows are much better, especially in interior lighting. The weather changes are much more dramatic and provide a much more intense day and night cycle. Overall the weather feels much more natural and much better. I think they have implemented lighting in a way that is just superior With the customizable config, STEP can tweak things like night darkness and contrast to provide our own unique experience, or to make night and dungeon crawling more playable without torches. My personal preference is that torches should be more or less required in dark dungeons and during night time. ADVANTAGES OF RLWC OVER CoT: -Mod is still under development while CoT is a finished project - Both mods have dirty edits, but RLWC has promised to fix its dirty edits in its next release - More varied and more detailed day and night cycle - Possible to have a custom RLWC lighting configuration for STEP The screenshots, after uploading, lost a lot of detail. I uploaded them in their full glory here: https://www.mediafire.com/?8w1ghhp7n7ck2jk Download and look at them for better comparisons.

  6. Riverwood 1st noon, 2nd dusk, 3rd night CoT RLWC
  7. Realistic Lighting With Customization https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/7654 Realistic lighting is a completely lighting overhaul, adding hundred of weather effects, different sky and sun textures, lighting, brightness, and contrast tweaks as well as many lighting source tweaks. At its default it eliminates any and all source of "fake" lighting, so that any light in an interior comes from some sort of visible light source; ie window, torch, candle, open ceiling, ect. Also includes an ini file that can be edited (out of game), causing updates to the game in real time. This file can be shared and exported allowing for people or persons to create different RLWC configurations and profiles. RLWC team is a multiple modder team developing RLWC with plans to release a new version "very soon" implementing a host of new features. STEP currently using CoT as its lighting overhaul choice. I will make the case the RLWC is a superior lighting mod using screen shots and my observations. METHADOLOGY: My system uses the Bethesda High Res Texture Pack Optimzed by Vano 89, with the "Hybrid (1024x2048) + vanilla NormalMaps option installed. I also use Vurts Flora Overhaul, lush tree with Vurts patch, as well as Hybrids HD plants and Herbs Retexture. To create the screen shot I used save points, so each screenshot was taken from approximately the same position at approximately the same time of day on the same day in skyrim. The noon and 9PM pictures for RLWC and CoT where taken at the same time and place. To capture the pictures of "dusk" I had to take screenshots at different times because CoT had a much more narrow "dusk" period. These pictures were taken with the default install settings for CoT, and with the custom install setting for RLWC with "vision setting", "alternate sunglare" and "brighter interiors" options enabled. Entry way of BanneredMare in Whiterun: CoT RLWC Upper Floor BanneredMare CoT RLWC Whiterun Plaza 1st noon, 2nd dusk, Night CoT NA - sorry forgot this one! 8. Ah, yeah thats it. Thanks for adding that.
  9. Mark Books as Read: https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/20910 This mod uses a script to keep track of which books, notes, and letters your player character has already read. Upon reading a book or note the title changes from [book] to ~(read)[book]. I have been using this mod for a long time now without issues. The only flaw with this, and it is hard to count it as a flaw, is that sometimes I have unintentionally read something and then needed to find it again to read it later. This mod has an advantage over De Ja Vu in that it sorts better. This mod adds a tilde key to the front of the title, so all read notes, books, ect sort to the bottom of your inventory making it much easier to find notes, books, ect that you need to read. It is for this reason that I think this mod should replace De Ja Vu in the next STEP release. The MOD includes performance options (not sure why). Standard install is recommended.Â
  10. If I am understanding this correctly, than this is just a bad mesh. You can blame the mod author. I would consider posting in their discussion thread about. Doesn't appear to be a bug, just poorly implemented nif.
  11. I would be interested in this. I could write wiki articles on mods I am currently working on a guide for first person lag
  12. That appears to be a bad mesh to me. I take it you can see the wood part in some angles but not others? I think this is caused by a mesh that isn't three dimensional. If another mod is over writing the mesh in your lanterns mod that could be the culprit... but seeing as how you just reinstalled it that is probably not the case. You can try downloading the mod and reinstalling again just in case... If that doesn't solve it consider reporting it as a bug to the LOSK team.
  13. Tentatively republishing this guide.
  14. I think I found a better solution! Going to look into a lot more to make sure its actually ok but it seems to be working better than what I tried before.
  15. I see. That is very disappointing. Thank you.
  16. I should have posted this in the ini section. I apologize, didn't see the sub forum. I recommend NOT using those mods. If its ugly good, I want people to read that part. Disabling vsync is ok if you enable vsync using another profile. The problem with disabling vsync in skyrim is it cause glitches if you exceed 60fps, not that there is anything special about how skyrim implements its vsync.
  17. After a recent update from skryim many people have been reporting issues with their performance in first person camera, a problem I had been experiencing myself. The problem is that, even in areas where the player is getting good performance with good framerates, a sort of stutterer or jitters can occur when doing a camera pan in first person view. In my case, all the jitters would instantly disappear if I switched to third person view, even if no other aspect of my performance changed at all. I looked all over the internet and for the most part nobody seems to have any idea what causes it or how to fix it. I haven't been able to fix the problem myself, but with a few driver tweaks, a skyrim.ini tweak, and a tool called "FPS limiter" I have been able to dramatically reduce the problem. The problem seems to have been linked to two things; one is mouse acceleration, and another is vertical sync. Bethesda games in general have been notorious for mouse input lag, and it is mouse input lag that is cuasing the problem. The primary cultprit seems to be an ini setting that forces vertical sync in skyrim. This is a graphical setting that makes your graphics card wait for you monitor to refresh before displaying an image to the screen. This prevents visual artifacts, called "tearing" that can occur if the GPU sends the picture to the screen to early. This also prevent different bugs that can happen in skyrim with physics and particles. Disabling this setting would fix the mouse input lag for many people, unfortunately this setting is tied to so many variables in the game (such as weather, and NPC schedules, and the physics engine) that disabling this setting is not an option. If you are having problems like I described, i recommend starting with this simple edit to your skyrrimPrefs.ini file. If you are using steam, these files should be located C:\Users\*username*\Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder. Load up your SkyrimPref.ini file, and look for the following entry: bMouseAcceleration=1Set that entry to zero. Save and close skyrimPrefs. This enntry, mouse acceleration, causes your mouse to move at different speeds depending on how much you correct with your hand. It can cause mouse movement to feel somewhat erratic and irregular. STEP recommends disabling it for that reason, and it can contribute to the stutter problem. Now that you have finished this, go into your driver control panel. For ATI users this is the "Catalyst Control Center" for Nvidia users this is the "Nvidia Control Panel". ATI users, go into "Advanced View" if prompted, and navigate to the tab called "3D application settings" under "Gaming". Scroll down to where it says "Wait for Vertical Refresh" and move the cursor all the way to the right so that beneath it says "Always On". For Nvidia users, open up you "Nvidia Control Panel". Navigate to your 3D setttings, and then click on "Manage 3D settings". Scroll down to the vertical sync option, and set it from "use application settings" to enabled. Some people have reported that forcing vertical sync in their drivers has helped their input lag. Enabling vertical sync in your drivers can shave a couple of FPS off your game, because your graphics card might have to wait a little while for the screen to refresh. However, the vertical sync in your graphics driver seems to be better than the one used by skyrim and might actually improve visual quality and reduce the instance of "tearing" in addition to lowering mouse input lag. A note on triple buffering: Many guides on the internet will recommend enabling triple buffering if you have vsync enabled. This can increase performance with vertical sync and further prevent further visual artifacts. Triple buffering also increase VRAM usage, which in a game like skryim especially can reduce performance, and it can also be linked to mouse input lag which is the problem you are trying to solve. You can experiment with it on and off, but I recommend disabling it for Skyrim if you have first person stutter problems. Next you will need to go to skyrim.nexus and download a third party software called "FPS Limiter": https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34 Download the program to your downloads file in windows, and then use a program like winrar and peazip to unpack the file into your data folders. You Skyrim data folder should be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim *NOTE: For enb user and FXAA post process injector users. This will overwrite a file called d3d9.dll. This file adds directx 9 effects to skyrim, like enb effects and frame rate limit effects. A this point there is no way to use both; either unistall ENB/FXAA injector or don't use FPS limiter. One of the files you will have copied to your skyrim director is a file called "antilag.cfg". Use notepad to open this file. Make the following changes to the file, then click save: CODE: RenderAheadLimit=2 FPSlimit=60 The FPSlimit parameter sets the maximum number of FPS your game will render. 60 is the most you can do with vsync enabled anyway. Setting it to zero will remove the fps limit, but what I have found is that when that number is set to zero the game will alternate between setting your FPS limit to 30 in areas where you don't get at least 60fps, and to 60 in areas where you do. This can cause massive framerate shifts which are very noticable. If you like you can set this number to 30, which will cause frames in skyrim to be rather consistent if you are regularly getting at least 30 fps, but for my personal taste I found setting it at sixty and letting my framerates naturally fluctuate felt the best. The money item here is the "RenderAheadLimit" parameter. This parameter controls how many frames your graphics card keeps in its buffer before displaying to the screen. A higher number can increase performance and make frame drops less dramatic, but it can also cause mouse input lag problems. Setting this number to one nearly eliminates any sort of input lag but at the cost of a lot of performance. Setting the number to two you should notice no loss in framerates and a dramatic reduction in mouse input lag. I noticed at numbers greater than two some of my mouse input lag started to creep back, but framerate drops became less noticeable. You might try experimenting with different number there and see what works best for you. Some people have reported issues with using FPS Limiter in their game. If you experience a dramatic loss in FPS (like down to less than 10), lag when accessing your menus, visual artifacting or a bug where you arrows don't immediately appear after firing them, these problems could be related to the mod. Makes sure to back up you data file before using this mod. Deleting antilag.cfg and d3d9.dll files should remove the mod from your game. Finally, for ATI users, you might consider setting your 3D profile settings to a custom skyrim profile. For instructions on how to do this, read this post on the skyrim.nexus forums. https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/827372-fix-for-ati-users-stutteringskipping-frames-in-first-person/ But that didn't work, what else can I try? Many people have had success with running the game in windows mode. You can use this free application to force skyrim into windowed mode and make it look better than the default windowed mode: https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4Setting you FOV to higher numbers can make the effect somewhat less noticeable. In skyrim, click '`' to bring up the command prompt, and type "fov 85". If you don't like it, simply reload you save file without saving. At the loss of a lot of visual quality, setting shadows to low and reducing view distance on objects has dramatically improved the problem in my case. This can be done as a last resort. Also, this tool in general increases performance using a variety of techniques to reduce the game resolution without you noticing. If you are struggling for performance this can increase your FPS and reduce lag: https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/15123Some people have claimed to have success by making the following ini tweaks to the skyrim.ini files. These changes are NOT recommended, but might be worth a try:[Papyrus] fUpdateBudgetMS=800 fExtraTaskletBudgetMS=800 fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=2000 iMinMemoryPageSize=256 iMaxMemoryPageSize=512 iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=2457600 DO NOT USE THESE MODS. As of patch 1.4 these mods are no longer necessary. I repeat, do NOT use these mods as they can mess up your system and don't work anymore. Skyboost: This mod used to help people, but patch 1.4 improved performance in Skyrim, and now nearly everyone has reported better performance without this mod. 4GB Address Patch: As of patch 1.4 Bethesda has fixed the very issue this mod fixes. Some people have reported problems using this in their game. It isn't necessary any longer. This issue continues to be an ongoing problem, and my guide only helps, but does not eliminate that problem. If you stumble upon a better solution please share it with us. Hopefully though you found something to help you here. Good luck! [Changelog] -1.1- Removed recommendation to disable vsync via skyrim ini tweak Added Recommendation for FPS limiter Under optional fixes, added papyrus edits Fixed formatting issues, spelling, grammer, and reordered some things. -1.0- Published guide
  18. I tested this mod with TES5 edit and it is squeaky clean. Not everyone is a fan of the foot prints, but considering the vanilla game has no footprints at all this is an obvious improvement. I can't see a reason why it shouldn't be a part of the next STEP. if a person doesn't like it, like everything in STEP, don't download it. It is safe and it doesn't change core skyrim in any way.
  19. Realistic Werewolf sound overhaul: https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13779 Improves the sound of werewolves when transforming, howling, feeding, in different animations and kill moves, and others. Has two versions; original and feral sounds. I prefer the feral sounds myself with the original howl optional file. Has no esp, it is just a simple sound replaces, so its perfectly clean. Video comparison: video comparison for "feral" version:
  20. Female Werewolf https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10989 Makes female werewolves look different from male werewolf. Includes censored and noncenesored versions. I checked this mod with TES5 and it has no errors, no ITMs and no UDRs. Male werewolf: Female Werewolf:
  21. Discussion thread: Improved Closefaced Helmets by navida1 Wiki Link It changes the mesh on many helms in the game that appear to be open faced (have a dark part around the eyes or part of the face) and changes them so that they are actually open faced and you can see the character face underneath. Included optional files for gaurd helm, imprerial helm, and nighingale hood. I recommend all of them. The screenshots are in the link, I have been using the mod for a long time and I haven't run into a bad mesh yet. I checked the mod with TES5 and I found no errors and no ITMS or UDRs. The main file had 3 ITMs, but I don't think it was a mistake. The author seems to have included different meshes for orcs and khajits and that is what TES5 is picking up on. At any rate, I think it is very stable, and a huge improvement to the meshes in the game. Compatible with nearly everything.
  22. Disable No Fast Travel Message https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3546 Removes the message "you cannot fast travel from here" when you try and... fast travel. Intended for to be used with no fast travel mods, but I find it preferable even when I have fast travel enabled. Tested with TES5 and it is completely clean.Â
  23. Dawnguard delayed start https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26022 Provides several mod versions, NMM friendly, so that dawngaurd vampire raids on towns either won't happen at all, or wont' happen until you character reaches a certain level. Seeing as NPCs have a habit of dieing during raids, this helps keep towns populated and quests from being broken. This mod has no errors, no ITMs, and no UDRs when checked with TES5 edit.Â
  24. No Salt for Meat Recipes https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8906 Removes salt requirement for cooking most meets. Includes pheasant, venison, goat leg, ect. Screenshots: The salt requirement on meat was both unrealistic and frustrating, considering salt is a rather scarce resource. This mod keeps salt as an ingredient in many other recipes but removes it from meat. I checked this mod with TES5 and it has no ITMS, no UDRs, and no errors.Â
