  1. Meshes are pretty easy. They control the shape the textures will be draped over and also which texture will go where. Overwriting one of them with another mesh is the same as textures conceptually. Meshes (and e en moreso textures) are pretty safe to replace mid-game, scripts you have to be much more careful with as they get embedded into your save game. Installing, updating and tweaking mods can become quite addictive. You need to remember to step ack at some point and actually play the game.
  2. Install order in MO does not matter, you can just drag them up and down to reorder your order. What does is the order of overwrites, mods lower down will overwrite ones further up. The reason to stick to the order in the guide even where it does not affect play is so that you can follow along with changes and for troubleshooting - it's just easier to stick to that order. If you have extra mods just figure out where they should go logically given what you want to have priority. Keep in mind that for MO the order of mods in the left pane affects which files overwrite which other files with the same name. You still need to order your ESPs in the right pane using BOSS.
  3. This happens when MO does not install the meshes or textures you need. Check that these files and folders were installed in Sky Test and Sky Immersive Creatures. The solution is usually to toggle the "prefer integrated FOMOD installer" in MO settings. Usually you do not wnat this on, but for a few odd fiels you need to turn it on to properly install the files you need.
  4. Sharlikran is quite emphatic that you should not include leveled lists in your merged patch. He has a video giving a how-to and his thoughts on building a merged patch.
  5. Human teeth in the dark and middle ages were probably better looking than in the early modern period. Europeans in the earlier period did not use much in the way of sugar (hence far fewer rotting teeth) and used much less if any coffee and tea (hence less stained teeth). Teeth brushing (and even primitive toothpaste made from urine among other sources) was known since antiquity as was dental surgery. There is some evidence they had fewer orthodontic problems than modern populations. So their teeth would not have looked as horrible as we might imagine by extrapolating modern populations with poor dental hygiene backwards. Add in a bit of magical healing or restoration...
  6. When you run SUM through MO it moves all the AV packages around - I think you will now find them in the sub-folders in MO/Overwrite. My thought on Immersive Weapons/Armor etc. is that they have some really nice stuff but also some pretty dubious stuff (at least to my taste). being a compendium the styles are quite different and to my mind jarring. I would probably go with just adding a few of the items rather than the dozens each adds - but that is too much work!
  7. Don't get disheartened by the odd random crash. You cannot eliminate them all, and the effort to do so is wasted. If you get it down to one crash per several hours it's probably fine - especially if you can't repeat them. FNIS will always say you have an outdated Skyrim when run through MO - ignore.
  8. That would be helpful. There are three or four settings I usually adjust (turn off blur, DOF and Edge AA for performance and make it less blurry) but the rest are more or less a mystery to me.
  9. I thought it was supposed to be charcoal, not coal. Not that that means it should be blue... Maybe it's magic charcoal to melt ebony, moonstone, etc.
  10. There's a new version of Skytest out today. It is supposed to address some of the issues with Hearthfire - not sure if it's successful. He also has a version with just the animal AI tweaks without the extra spawns, etc. This might be more performance friendly. I've never really decided what I think about Skytest. I'm running it now but that may be more inertia in that I can't be bothered to take the effort to think about removing it after it was included with SR. I think spinning arrows is more Hollywood than reality so haven't bothered with using it. I've been thinking I should ditch player head-tracking. It's sort of cool, but having another script running constantly might not be the wisest choice. ELFX requires very little editing as far as I can see. That was a pleasant surprise when I started using it. I ditched RLO and Sounds of Skyrim - too many edits, too many ESP patches and, while RLO was good, I just felt SoS. ELFX combined with ENB (I've tried both RealVision and UnReal) makes for very dark dungeons if you are not close to a candle/torch - really heightens the sense of danger. P.S. It's a nightmare on Nexus comments where people have recently started referring to Schlongs of Skyrim as SoS, when I read SOS as Sounds it often doesn't make any sense!
  11. This makes sense but I've held off doing it. Wet and Cold adds some nice effects (blurry vision in blizzards, equipping cloaks, etc.) - it just seems to make Skyrim seem much more subartic.
  12. Yes, I only saw this recently - it looks pretty good. Makes Skyrim more populated with some useful types.
  13. I read that Wet and Cold can cause issues - lots of scripts.
  14. You should realize that there are probably multiple different mods that all add up - it's not just one issue. If you've got your graphics well under control then I suspect it's probably the sum of all the game play mods running scripts, plus perhaps an unstable mod or two.
  15. I'm trying to modify the Stormcloak armor to UNPB, but when I do so the guards always show up in Stormcloak blue. How do I get the guards to show up with their own color uniform and not Storm cloak colors? I took a UNP Stormcloak armor and modified it for the UNPB BBP body for use with SR. But when use it in game all the female Whiterun guard armor end ups in Stormcloak blue, the males in Whiterun yellow. When I use the original UNP Stormcloak armor the female guards are in yellow. My BSShaderTextureSet is identical to in both but it will not look up the guard armor in my UNPB armor but it does so for the UNP armor I started with.Any suggestions? EDIT: Well apparently you have to have the armor with the Stormcloak texture as the top item in Nifscope so that the game engine can redirect it to the guard texture. Thanks to MadBomber83 for pointing out this annoying requirement.
  16. I use Convenient Horse quite a bit and don't have trouble with it.
  17. I'm sure Border Sense alone is not much of a burden - but when you've got hundreds of mods every little bit adds up. It strikes me that this is running almost constantly detecting where you are so I'm a bit wary of it. I also think it's not really immersive - at least as I think of it. For the most part, the idea of defined boarders is a fairly recent innovation. In the dark ages borders were ill-defined and highly contested. The game needs strict borders to know where to assign bounties for example. But in the period the game uses for inspiration, the seat of power (i.e. the Jarl's Longhouse) was easy to identify, but where his writ extended was much less defined - while his troops or tax collectors were there it was his, but when they moved on it reverted to contested ground. With this idea of fluid and contested borders, I don't really think that knowing exactly when you left one hold and entered another makes sense. If I can see the Jarl's troops I know I'm in his territory, if I need a mod to tell me whose land I'm in then it seems I'm not really in it. Given this view of the political geography of Skyrim I don;t really think Border Sense is adding to immersion, at least for me....
  18. Immersive Patrols is great and I really like Inconsequential NPCs too. Travelers is also good. These do a good job of populating Skyrim. Playing with Interesting NPCs is good for a while - but they get tedious after a while. I also wonder about the stability of it. I don't think Warzones is safe to use (or stable) at this point. IP's Battles do a decent job of providing some flavor for this. I wonder if FMO will conflict with Weapons and Armor Fixes, Ars Metallica and Smithing Perk Overhaul. I know lots of people like Border Sense but I'm indifferent and figure if that's the case why add to my CPU's burden. (I feel the same way about Regional Names.) Civil War might be good but I'm not sure I trust it yet.
  19. I assume it conflicts with just about everything. Almost all cells have a sound component, which usually means that lighting, water, names etc. in that cell are overwritten by the sound mod. At least this is how SOS seems to work.
  20. You need the closed faced helms and guard dialogue overhaul patches from the WAF patches.
  21. The WAF patch is supposed to allow for this. Is there an error in it?
  22. What's the feet? Lore friendly toenail polish?
  23. No problem with SkyUI 4.1 SKSE today. Did a few limited sessions to test out new armor I was modding (really just porting over to UNPB). Tried out the new Racemenu too - interested to see how some of the new plugin features will work (hands, feet, body tattoos).
  24. I'm not positive, but I think it's load them all up - or at least a subset of them that you think are going to have issues. Then expand the mod you are interested in and look at its nodes.
