I have 4gb of vram but the problem is skyrim itself crashing because the engine can't handle so much memory usage. I've decided to go 2k x 2k, optimize what should be optimized with ddsopt and just play with minimal overhaul mods...using STEP. Safety load and enb boost should make this very stable...I hope.

Thank you for the info, Kelmych. I would also like your suggestion on resolution limits for heavily modded setups. I am planning on SR: LE with Requiem + azirok's patches and wanted to know if going with SR's 2k interior/ 1k exterior setup would be optimal or if I should just limit everything to 1k. Thanks again.

So I get 6385 planar textures 1x1 when optimizing my vanilla ordinary textures folder with ddsopt (after using the batch files), is this correct? A lot of these files are face/ tint masks and I'm wondering if they all get overwritten by a mod later on or if the 1x1 collapse is meant to be. Anyone?
-
@Jormingand I would go the 2k/1k route but I'll be using an overhaul (Requiem) along with mods like Immersive battles, patrols, merchants etc. I feel safer capping all textures at 1k for the consistency, performance and quality.
-
Is anyone else here thinking about using SR and going with a 1k by 1k textures/ normals setup for stability? How do you guys feel about reducing texture sizes for mods that don't come with a 1k version? Getting mixed info about this being optimal or not being safe due to texture corruption.

Project ENB with CoT/RLO has always been the best for me hands down.
-
A little off topic as well but have you ever considered integrating SR with Requiem, Neo? I know there will be many packs out there and stuff but how about it? :]

How can I make an SR install more stable?
Luisangre replied to Wraithpk's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
My new and possible final setup will be 1k textures/ 1k normals max for everything and I believe this will be the best in terms of quality/ performance and headroom to add more stuff. -
@phazer I optimized my own copy of SRO. Also did a new install of STEP going for all mods 2k textures and 2k normals to test out enb boost and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised.
-
@smile Have you tried going 1k textures and 1k normals?

I haven't tried going 1k textures and 1k normals but every bit helps when you're trying to run a massive number of mods. What resolutions do you use, Aiyen? I may consider going 1k textures and 1k normals if the quality/ performance is worth it. e; I've been a longtime user of 2k textures and 1k normals but I don't think this is optimal when running mass mods so I stepped down textures. -

1k textures/ 512 normals definitely helps when running a heavy modded game with lots of game play content...Requiem/ Asis/ Requiem patches for other mods. You need to decide if you want higher resolution textures or more game play mods/ scripts. -
Agreed, 1k textures with 512 normals is the way to go if you want a game with a good amount of game play content. Everything still looks amazing...I am right now starting the characters & creatures section of STEP and have only hit a little over half gig max in game memory usage. Using full STEP.

I would resize/ optimize mods like SRO, skyrim 2k textures, serious hd textures first and see how it works for you. Since I am kind of a purist, I am going with all 1k textures/ 512 normals for max consistency and stability. The game still looks amazing and remember, this game is limited by its own engine and not your hardware (unless you use a 5+ year old pc). -

Going with 1k textures and 512 normals greatly improves stability. -
Changelog at the bottom of SR LE page would greatly help out in keeping LE updated for those of us who can't help it :]Thanks Neo.
-
@IMGoblins Same here, I thought SR came to an end when none of my SR links worked :[ I read a post by Neo earlier and he says he's waiting for the 2.0 unofficial patches to get SR LE back in full swing. I just wish there was a changelog somewhere so I could keep my SR LE updated. Not planning on starting a game up until LE is done but I like the idea of keeping it up to date :]
-
Are you guys keeping up to date with SR LE via MO or planning to do a 1 shot install when it's finished?
-
@Kelmych Thank you for the updates and explanations!
-
@Smile Same idea I was going by but instead of STEP CORE, I installed all of STEP and optimizing textures at 2k and 1k normals. Also using cloaks of skyrim, frostfall, realistic needs and diseases, climates of tamriel, realistic lightning overhaul, falskaar, wyrmstooth, project enb for cot, all of azirok's patches with their main mods (immersive weapons, immersive armors, skytest, immersive creatures, immersive patrols (all esps), requiem hard times. I think Requiem is the best overhaul to use with STEP/SR because it covers a ton of stuff and everything synergizes/ balances out.

Also, These are the constraints under "Using DDsopt" tab; https://wiki.step-project.com/images/f/f6/DDSopt_Fig7.jpg These are the ones for optimizing vanilla textures and STEP textures in HQ; https://wiki.step-project.com/images/9/94/DDSopt_Constraint_Menu_Fig1.jpg Why is "DXTx 1:6 lossy" chosen for the first constraints but "R5G6B5 1:2 lossy" chosen for vanilla/ STEP mods? Also these seem to be different versions of DDSopt as one has the support tab and the other doesn't.

The DDSopt/ mod chart highly recommends it; https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:DDSopt_%26_Texture_Overhauls#tab=STEP_Mod_Texture_Properties These mods are also listed as highly recommended and are also under fixes/ interface; Consistent older people Lockpicking interface Skill interface retexture The introduction also mentions STEP 2.2.7 so I assume this is up to date or am I completely missing something here?

Hello fellow STEPPERS. I believe there is a bug with RaceMenu mod and DDSopt. If the file default.dds is processed, your character will have whitish/ purplish skin on character creation. The mod only has 5 texture files so finding the file was easy. This is what DDSopt log says; # default.dds ################################################################# C:\Program Files (x86)\ModOrganizer\mods\RaceMenu\textures\actors\character\overlays\default.dds processing: Format          : DXT5 to A8R8G8B8 Dimensions      : 128x128 to 1x1 - 8 to 1 levels notes: Planar image detected, collapsing to size 1x1. Texture was compressed. delta:           21868 bytes less

Some feedback on 2k textures and 1k normals. Phenomenal.
