Smooth Shores Patches - Merge when asked?
mooit replied to mooit's topic in General Skyrim SE Discussion & Support
Ahhh using the Download With Mod Manager, is not a Standard it's a method to use, it's a choice. In two years of using MO2, I've never read anywhere in the Skyrim modding community that this is a Standard, but actually, maybe a preferred method, but again a choice, so I do things manually. And why do manually, because you have greater control, and you learn more this way, rather than automating everything. And for me personally, I'm a Unix/Linux user, and that is typically a more hands on manual way of running an OS, compared to the typical Windows world. I've never had a problem modding in Skyrim in 2 years doing it manually, everything has been working great. All I wanted to know was what to do with the Smooth Patches is all, and I'll say I'm sorry if frustrated you, it was never my intention. THANKS -
Smooth Shores Patches - Merge when asked?

Sorry if I'm seeming dense, here, I don't understand what you just said? 'Default behavior of MO is to install using the Nexus mod name, so if you install multiple files from a single nexus page, they default to the same mod name, and you get 'merge'. Every time.' I just go to nexus and click on the 'Manual Download' for every file, then I install those into MO, I'm not using the 'Mod Manager Download' button. I'm not renaming anything. Here's all the files I downloaded, and then I would normally install them like this into MO2. THANKS -

Then there is no Merge happening in MO2 when installing separately all the Smooth Shore Patches. So I'm still confused about installing the Smooth Shore Patches, I thought z929669 was talking about placing them all in one archive to install into MO2? THANKS -
Smooth Shores Patches - Merge when asked?
mooit replied to mooit's topic in General Skyrim SE Discussion & Support
There's something that was not being explained through out the guide, I didn't see this. 1. Merge into one archive? 2. Merge when MO2 asks you to do so? The Smooth Shore Patch example I was trying to explain, is not differentiating between 1&2 above. If you go back and look at the guide, the first time 'Merge' is being mentioned is this section; Unofficial High Definition Audio Project Download and install all Main Files. Merge when asked This doesn't tell us anything, between number 1&2 above. So for me personally, since I've been modding in Skyrim for the past 2 years, I only think of merging in MO2, if MO2 asks, I've never merged many mod files before into one archive. Actually the only mod I have archived/merged into one archive is Skyrim Realistic Overhaul. THANKS -
Smooth Shores Patches - Merge when asked?

I don't assume anything when it comes to doing things, so I personally don't see any of this as 'Evident' in a particular method of doing things, I see that as just a 'Personal Preference', and the reason I don't Merge mods all into One file, is because many times the MOD Dev have updates, and optional files that are going to be pushed out all the time, possibly faster than a Main file, so all you have to do is just get the Optional/Update file. So if you merge, then you have to remove everything and remerge all the files all over again, like just for one update. So I personally don't do this sort of thing, because I also want to see all the individual files, to understand/see/know everything going on, after all, there are differences... So I took the Smooth Shore Patches and placed them all in one Archive, but they are all .esp files, is this what you meant to do? THANKS -

AHHH I didn't see how this was being mentioned that way on the Guide, it read more like to me, install them in MO2 and when asked to merge. Not merge them all into one mod. THANKS -

Here's a screen shot of the DynDOLOD grass section, if you don't have the grass cache then this section is grayed out and you don't have access to it and DyDODLOD doesn't generate it. And, all I was trying to do, I was just making sure it was correct that the 'Step Patch - Conflict Resolution will over write some of the grass cache in; C:\Modding\MO2\overwrite\grass Mistakes and bugs happen all the time, I was only making sure it was correct is all. THANKS P.S. I did read 'When should I activate patches for mods?', it has nothing to do with my question, I'm only asking a question about 'Step Patch - Conflict Resolution' over writting the grass cache, that is all. But you mentioned 'Yes' before to allow it to overwrite, so we're all good. -

Sorry, I'm not ahead of myself, I'm only trying to ask, what the Guide is not explaining, that is all. As I mentioned, I already asked shenson about this, here on the forum. To be honest, I'm not even sure what it is you're trying to tell me. I'm not starting out on the guide, at the very beginning, like I'm modding SE for the first time, if that is what you mean. I'm simply changing and adjusting my MODs is all. THANKS -

Here's a screen shot that shows for Step 0-3 to use the Grass Cache Fixes, which is to generate these. So then, maybe the Grass Cache Fixes mod should be removed from the guide? THANKS Ok, well, I'll keep the Grass Cache Fixes, since it's in the Guide and I'll let 'Step Patch - Conflict Resolution' over write for now. THANKS -

I am following the guide exactly, as I'm saying I see no mention of what you are talking about, I don't believe removing it is mentioned anywhere. THANKS -

I don't know if we are talking about the same thing. Grass Cache Fixes at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com) It's been a few months since I've messed with this, but Grass Cache Fix is a mod, listed in the guide. I also made a post, which shenson replied to, that for DnyDOLOD, in order to have access to the Grass option, this cache of .gid/.cgid is needed, which you do with this Grass Cache Fixes mod. I've looked over the step guide very carefully, so I'm either not seeing what you are talking about, or we aren't talking about the same things, because I see nothing about removing; C:\Modding\MO2\overwrite\grass But that we are suppose to create this, according to the guide. THANKS -

I don't see that the guide mentions any methods here, and sorry I don't understand what you mean either by; ALL to "Smooth Shores Patches"? Install all files but NOT Smooth Shores Patches - Worldspace Transition Tweaks Patch #.#.#. Merge when asked This is all I see for the guide; To me this says, to install everything except the WTT and for the other mods I install, it's going to ask me to merge. So what is this ALL to "Smooth Shores Patches" you are talking about? THANKS P.S Every patch is listed as Smooth Shore; -

OK on the guide/steps. By the way, 'Step Patch - Conflict Resolution' I assumed I should be grabbing the grass lod one, but this overwrites some of the grass cache in the MO2 overwrite; C:\Modding\MO2\overwrite\grass Is this ok, use the grass one and let it overwrite some of the grass cgid? THANKS -

I'm using MO2, nothing is defaulting the same mod name, they all installed. Yes I know when there are same files, etc., MO2 will open up a dialog asking to merge. I've been modding in Skyrim for 2 years btw, I mentioned a year before, that was my mistake, but I certainly don't know everything, who does...LOL The WIKI guide isn't correct, in regards to this 'Merge' P.S. Here's a screen shot of M02, I also installed WTT, to see what would happen. As you can see they are all installed, again, no Merge Dialog appeared. THANKS -
Smooth Shores Patches - Merge when asked?
mooit replied to mooit's topic in General Skyrim SE Discussion & Support
Sorry I didn't explain myself better. There is no dialog asking to merge anything. Also you just mentioned to install one of the other optional files, but the guide says to 'install all files' , but WTT. install all files but NOT Smooth Shores Patches - Worldspace Transition Tweaks Patch #.#.# None of the files on nexus are listed as optional, they are listed as main. THANKS -

The only two I didn't install listed as Red, shown for Step Patch - Conflict Resolution; AI Overhaul SSE Relationship Dialogue Overhaul Lite I have 'Relationship Dialogue Overhaul', which I thought was supposed to be better, and I've also been using in the past, '. Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul SE', which I personally found to be more immersive with the NPC, and I also thought it was suppose to be better. I'm not sure I understand, or see how not installing AI Overhaul SSE, or Relationship Dialogue Overhaul Lite, is going to break the game, but simply just change the NPC interaction/immersion is all... hmm THANKS -
What about these ELFX Mods?
mooit replied to mooit's topic in General Skyrim SE Discussion & Support
Ok thanks -
The Step Skyrim Special Edition - SSE - Guide; Step Skyrim Special Edition - SSE - Guide at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com) Step Patch - Conflict Resolution, I understand these are patches needed, so I have this. Step Patch - Lighting and Weather, if I didn't install all of the lighting and weather mods, only some of them, should I still install this patch? THANKS

I understand about the 'no right way', I was just trying to understand if there was a difference is all. I just wasn't sure if these settings; 'LOD4/Level0, LOD8/Billboard4, LOD16/Billboard1' If LOD16 could be bumped slightly, for a slightly better distance? THANKS -

mooit replied to mooit's topic in General Skyrim SE Discussion & Support
Since z929669 mentioned, these are the recommendations. 'Level0/Billboard4/Billboard1', and LOD16 is hardly noticeable. I guess that answers it... THANKS -
