How did you solve Transparency Anti-Aliasing for shimmering textures?
Nearox replied to Nearox's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Yeah but that is also a problem because increasing height and width x2 is, as I'm sure you know :P, much more than 2x AA because of the higher pixel count. Anyways, I managed to do it and wanna thank you a LOT for suggesting this. There is a german tool to downsample AMD using 12.11 CCC drivers and then installing the new 13.x drivers over it. Did that, works wonders. It decreased my shimmering a lot, though it's still there. With the tool I can adjust downscaling down to the pixel. For instance, my Skyrim seems to work well when I increase both height and width by 40% which, coming from 1680x1050, amounts to 2352x1470. This results in 35fps stable (except when near waterfalls or in the Rift area). However when I increase them to 50%, which amounts to 2520x1576, then my FPS dips below 30fps on average. It's an amazing tool for tweaking the game. I cannot distinguish any difference between downsampling and using SuperSampingAA. However SSAA did use like 300mb more VRAM then when I downsample, even though I get similar quality. The downside is that downsampling reduces my FPS more than SSA does. The resulting image quality is the same but it's a tradeoff between lower FPS (which I can easily regulate to be stable with a FPS limiter) and high VRAM use. High VRAM use, or simply using AdaptiveAA or SSAA, causes my game to occasionally CTD. Therefore, thanks once again for pointing me to this! Been looking for a shimmering solution for a long long time! (if you have any mods of yourself let me know, I'll endorse them :)) -
If you do it like that, then they will. I was mostly describing the general procedure on how it would work best in the long run :) Also, are you following both STEP and SR?

Alright fair enough. Gonna try messing with the screen resolution, just found a guide on the internet Bleh it seems that since CCC drivers 13.1 the downscaling 'hack' is no longer possible unless following a very complex procedure editing registry etc. which I don't dare to touch. -
Well I'd personally advice you to do it sooner than later. It helps immensely to keep track of things.

Well if you install all the mods in MO/mods and name them with the numbers of the SR guide then it takes merely a few clicks and you will not lose your mod install order. E.G. 4.5.1.04 (or simply 5.1.04 since they all start with 4): Skyrim HD Lite - Towns 4.5.1.04: Skyrim HD Lite - Towns - DDSOpt version 4.5.1.05 Skyrim Realistic Ooverhaul etc.

1. Uninstall2. Make sure your Skyrim directory is completely empty 2a. Remove 2b. Close MO and all other Skyrim related programs 3. Reinstall Skyrim (can be to same directory) 4. Open MO 5. Load vanilla skyrim profile 5a. Ensure that you install the SKSE dlls and .exe 6. Run Skyrim with SKSE only (without the SKSE scripts you installed via MO). Start new game. Save it. Preferablly take this char to multiple locations so you can ALWAYS go to a clean saved vanilla save game (can be from same char). you can use these savegames to load a profile with mods and to quickly check how different regions/cities respond to your install. never overwrite the clean saves and you will have a proper testing environment. I use this for testing and it works great. Costs you 30min of time to set it up but it's worth it. 7. Gradually enable each mod group (e.g. foundation, then add bricks, then add mortar etc.) and check at various savegame locations how stuff looks (check actor faces in particular in your case) and how your VRAM use it. Best to make some notes in a word or excel file. 8. Do nor run Skyrim with AV's or SUM or Dual Sheet Redux yet (do use NFIS though). First check if everything works without the AV's and the Gameplay mods. The latter two can cause most issues since a lot of them are script-based. 9. Do not run with a Bashed Patch yet. Remove it if it exisits in your MO/overwrite directory. First test without most of the script stuff, and then enable all the script stuff at the end and run the patchers etc That's how I did it and it worked. As for ENB: I Only use ENBoost and couple it with SweetFX. Grab a prest profile form the internet and you good to go. But I wouldn't bother with it until you got a stable SR, just to rule out that ENB is the cause for instability.

Thank you Aiyen. Would you be able to pinpoint me a link or a pastebin to the right ENB settings? I currently only use ENBoost. Also I have been looking for flora texture packs that have higher resolution (like 2k). Thought if I could get my hands on that it would increase texture quality and hopefully reduce some transparency AA. Do you think this will make a difference? -
I've been running a stable SR install for nearly a week now. However, something really annoys me to the point where I don't want to play anymore(and it annoyed me too in vanilla): While moving around, the textures of trees/grass/windows/foilage/fences etc. - basically anything with transparency - are terribly aliasing. It's like half my screen is vibrating. I run an i5 2500k @4.3ghz and a HD950 2gb.  I play at 1680x1050 resolution. Here's what I tried: - FXAA Injector: Too blurry and doesn't solve the transparency issue - SMAA Injector: Generally works great for regular edge detection but has no effect at all on foilage. - MSAA (x2, x4, x8): Has zero effect on transparency aliasing. - AMD's Adaptive AA: Enabling this in both Skyrim INI and in CCC. It works and I notice transparency is less, although it doesn't completely remove the issue and parts of the foilage that is further away still shimmers. However the game crashes regularly with this on (even in 2x mode). Also, some textures appear transaprent where they shouldn't be (e.g. some big trees, mosh on rocks in solitude keeps flickering) - AMD's SuperSampling: Enabling this in CC and enabling Transparency AA in Skyrim INI has the same effect as Adaptive AA but without the artifacts. However, the CTD's are the same. The latter two options do not max out my VRAM, so it cannot be that the game crashes due to that. Also, my GPU load is at 85-90% which means temps are good. I'm using a FPS limiter at 45. Are there any other alternatives that can reduce shimmering? I'm running out of ideas...

Maybe a silly question but did you try starting a new game already (i.e. not loading the autosave that is made before character creation)? It is possible that the bad mesh got caught up in the save so if you haven't already you should try start a new character. If all else fails, I would simply reinstall your Skyrim. Since MO saves your mod list anyways it is really easy to do a clean skyrim reinstall. Just make sure you follow the first couple of steps of the SR guide properly. Oh yeah also, I DDSOpted the vanilla texture according to the SR:LE guide and not according to the SR guide (which has different instructions). All my textures look great. It's really a ***** (excuse my language) to get a full SR install up and running, but once you got it I can tell you it is worth the effort :P

I have absolutely zero problems with character appearances. I remember it was one of the easier parts of the SR guide to figure out, for me personally. Did you run FNIS before starting Skyrim? -
No this is a different one, as the author says:

Does anyone have experience with this? A bugfix has recently come out, and advice on whether it is good or not? I don't want to ruin my SR installation. https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/985247-bugfix-for-lvlpredatorscript-errors-no-more-log-spam/

Did you keep an original version of the extracted mods in MO and a seperate one that contains the DDSOpt textures (which you place under the original mod in your install order)? Then you should disable all the DDSOpt mods and run with originals, see if that solves the problem. Then test which one(s) is/are the culprit.

Using Mod Organizer, I have a 100% clean and working SR install, and I'm sure quite some others with me have it too :) You just need to figure out some stuff on your own since a couple mods are outdated (and hence some of the patches no longer can be correctly applied). I then use another profile in M.O. For SR + ASIS + Skyre A 3rd profile is for expiremental stuff like immersive patrols etc. After changing anything I'll have to re-do the Bashed Patch and SUM of course. Immersive Patrols does not add any scripts by the way. Therefore I can only come to the conclusion that the lvlpredatorscript CTDs are due to either ASIS or Inconsequential NPCs. -

Sairven: I did that already as I found your previous post with the same info in another thread on these forums. However it didn't help me from getting a CTD with LvlPredatorScript.psc. Re-ran the bashed patch, SUM etc but to no avail. The error must be due to either Immerisve Patrols or Inconsequential NPCS (as those are the only ones I instaled on top of SR + ASIS + Skyre - the combination of the latter 3 was working without problems. Errors have been reported on the net about LvlPredatorScript.psc affecting stuff around (outside of) Whiterun in particular. Might try an older version of Immersive Patrols and get the ESP that exclused Whiterun area but not sure if it'll help. Could simply be too many running scripts at once, as I read that this is some kind of 'global script' accessed by hundreds of different variables. Yeah I read that too hence why I did not enable increased spawns module of ASIS. Nor any other increased spawn stuff. Simply followed the ASIS+Skyre guide (and did not installedd the other addons due to complexity and - frankly- sometimes unclear and incomprehensible wording of the guide. -

Been getting a lot of LvlPredatorScript.psc CTD's. Been googling for the issue. Seems to be fairly common with script mods and also very difficult to solve. I guess it doesn't play nice with ASIS etc. Although I added the ESPs of IP to the blocklist. -
SKYRIMLE SUM - SkyProc Unified Manager (by Leviathan1753)
Nearox replied to darthbdaman's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
It can take a long time for the AV settings to load. On my 2500k @ 4.3ghz it takes like 30sec - 1minute until the setting screen shows (it;'s a seperate window). If I click anywhere inbetween on the SUM patcher there's a chance it'll crash. Be patient :) -

Cheers for the info Sairven. I think I will either disable RRR or get the LITE version. If I get the lite version I'm afraid I may have to manually do some patches to make RRR compatible with other mods as instructed by SR. I suppose that the contents and structure of the RRR esp will change if I get the lite version, and in SR the mod has a couple of manual compatibility patches made by Neovalen and I wouldn't know how to make new ones on my own form the Lite version :P SO, just to make it clear, you get the mods you mentioned working with Skyrim Revisited or with STEP? Also I provided the wrong link for Expanded Towns and Cities. The right one is in the link in this post (can't edit anymore). Oh yeah, where do you put these in your load order? At the end of 'the Bricks' section? -

Nearox posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
Hey guys, so I got SR + ASIS+ Skyre up and running. Hasn't crashed yet in about 8 hours of gameplay today so I'm really happy. However I would like to add some mods to increase immersion. Would like to ask your opinions/experiences/knowledge about the following mods! In other words, do you have any problems running one or more of these mods or do you foresee this mod having any conflict with another SR mod? 1. Immersive College of Winterhold: It says on its page that it is 100% compatible as long as no other mods make adjustments to the college. Do mods like SMIM or any other SR mods interfere with this? 2. Immersive Settlements //OR// Epanded Towns and Cities: I know about Realistic Room Rental issues. Is there any other mod that could conflict? 3. Immersive Patrols: I read somewhere on the STEP forum that there is a conflict with another mod, but I cannot find that post anymore... 4. Travellers of Skyrim. 5. Inconsequential NPCs: This mod is mentioned in the SR:Legendary guide; it doesn't say there wheter patches are needed but I guess it may simply not have been updated to that point that. Looking forward to hear your invaluable comments! -
Well when you bought the card you could've (and probably should've) checked the exact model :P It will always say xxxx series card in your windows system info, but you will need a seperate program to identify the specific model. 6900 series is the 'highest' level of cards of the 6xxxx series. As far as I'm aware there are 3 modesl: the 6950, 7970 and 6990. If it has 2gb of VRAM: I would efinitly not buy a new card now. It's simply not worth it. The new models that come out in like 2 months are gonna have 20-50% more performance for the same price.
-
Use the default MO folders for mods (and everything else) or you'll run into issues later (speaking from experience)
-
You should find out your specific model. Download a program like SiSoft Sandra to identify it. Also you might wanna wait buying a new card as AMD is expected to release the 9xxx series in october.Â
-
The following list should be able to help you: https://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2300495 Not all of the models on the list have a higher VRAM version included. A lot of the newe 2gb cards also have a 4gb version. If you gonna mod Skyrim like you say I'd advice you to go for 3gb or more VRAM. I personally run with a HD6950 2gb and have had to go to enormous lengths to get VRAM under the limit with SR, using all 1k textures and DDSOpting them all. Post your question in the Anandtech forums: lot of geeks there will give you an answer :)

You mod path is correct. As for BOSS Masterlist and Program it depends on where you got BOSS installed. Mine is: C:\BOSS\Skyrim\  (masterlist) C:\Boss\Boss.exe  (program)
