Moved Overwrite Files to Wrong Mod

Question

Posted

Every time I run Skyrim (SKSE) through MO (with STEP Core or Extended profile) I end up with files/folders in the Overwrite in MO after quitting Skyrim. So far I have just been adding them to a Trash mod with no ill effect (yet).

The last time I went to drag the Overwrite contents to the Trash mod I couldn't find it, so I let go with the mouse, which of course dropped the overwrite files in the wrong mod. No idea which mod. No idea which Overwrite files. Some of the files wanted to overwrite whatever I was copying on top of, but I cancelled that, so at least not all the files were copied. However, I have no idea which mod the ones that did get copied went into.

Is there an "undo" or any way to check file changes in the mods?

Really not looking forward to rebuilding STEP from scratch, but I guess I have no choice.

Vanilla looking good now.

You should be fine. So long as you rerun FNIS, Dual Sheath Redux (if you use it) and remake your bashed patch. You'll also want to use the search feature to find the .tri files race menu generates; if you can find those you should be able to locate the others you moved to the wrong folder in the same place (one would hope).

This would happen to me here and there as well. Was there a lot of files in your overwrite directory?

I usually narrow it down based on the current visible mods on the left hand side (this only works if you didn't scroll up or down the list of mods after it happened).

From there I just look at the mod properties to look for the file list and if I see something I'd recognize to be part of the overwrite folder, then I'd know it got moved there.

If I'm not familiar with the file tree structure of the mod (in other words, what files the mod should possess), I'd simply go to my MO download folder to view the archived mod and peer inside to get an idea.
