Question

Hello forum!

I recently decided to re-install Skyrim using the STEP guide(STEP-Extended). I have used it before(back in 2012) and think it is the best guide for safely graphically enhancing Skyrim. I have followed the steps "in-order" and still cannot get it to run. I get the dreadful "Skyrim has stopped working" crash when I attempt to run it using Mod Organizer(With and w/o SKSE). Having used STEP before with zero issues on the same system, all-be-it over two years ago, I cannot seem to figure out what the issue is.

Here is the post from my BOSS log. Keep in mind, i HAVE NOT sorted Improved Closefaced Helmets or Skyfalls + Skymills(Due to BOSS tossing it out of load order upon execution) and it does not run when I place them in the correct load order.

Any help would be appreciated, THANKS!

I am a noob for sure, and may be of no help. I noticed you have the STEP Extended patch. Did you install ALL of STEP Extended? I just finished installing a STEP Core set-up (worked awesome) and then I thought I had figured out which of Extended I needed to use the STEP Extended patch. Come to realize the STEP Extended patch needed a bunch more of the extended mods. So, I guess I am saying, if you did not install every single extended mod, that could be your problem.

Now, someone smarter can hopefully help you out. :-)

Good luck!

It is probably not a game issue but something related to Windows or some other program or DLL interfering. Try updating Steam or checking that your Steam settings are all default. Also check AV and running programs. Look at your Windows event logs. Try restarting, etc.

You were correct. The issue was with the d3d9.dll STEP suggested with the installation of the ENBoost. I deleted it and it works flawlessly, weird. But now I have a tree texture problem, they look like they were modeled in the original Wolfenstein 3-D, regardless, the game us up and running, thank you for the support forum.

d3d9.dll is pretty necessary for ENBoost to work. You should not delete it. you will need to revisit the ENBoost installation and be sure to turn of Windows UAC or take ownership of all files/folders under and set all *.exe and *.dll to 'run as admin'

I struck out at my first at bat, but I am at the plate again. ;-)

Could it be that the d3d9.dll that was downloaded was not the proper one for your video card?

EDIT: I went back through the ENBoost procedure, and to correct my statement above, it's not that you downloaded the wrong file, but maybe used the wrong ini settings for your video card. Then again, I could be and am probably wrong. Just learning how to do my own troubleshooting.
